She’ll love him forever . . . but he can’t make her obey . . .The war is over. Danger has passed. Cara Kayrs is healed after decades of illness and ready for a break.Too bad her brooding, alpha vampire husband can’t seem to change gears. In their twenty-five years together Talen Kayrs has learned to sense every shiver of her body, to ignite her desire with a word or a look. She would think he … or a look. She would think he could learn she’s not some fragile damsel in distress.
But Talen is on edge, watching their backs, treating her like she’s made of glass. Like there’s something following them, a deadly threat that somehow none of their intelligence has uncovered. It’s enough to drive a woman crazy, and Talen has plenty of those tendencies already.
But what’s even more maddening is that he seems to be right . . .

Talen and Cara
The first couple we ever read about in the Dark Protectors are off to Hawaii for a vacation now that the War is over. But first they need to drop off some samples to a Lab. However, as they say all plans never go as planned. When demons start closing in on them…Cara and Talen have no choice but to fight. But what is the end game for the demons?
This was a good short story about one of our favourite couples and Garrett and Logan made an appearance too Those two had me killing myself laughing at one point Looking forward to more
I loved the Dark Protectors series and any chance to get one more story from that world was good enough to get me excited.
Now, Talen, is technically not a new release. It was originally a bonus novella in the back of one of the spin-off Realm Enforcers series. Talen is a bridge story between the two series and reads best after the end of Dark Protectors and fits just as the other series is getting under way.
I got so excited to see this was a fun Talen and Cara story. Twenty-five years after they become a mated couple, they are still a fun pair to read about. Talen is still a dominant, pushy vampire and Cara is still doing her level best to teach him a thing or two about strong, spirited females. They are supposed to be headed out on their first vacation alone since the war and Cara’s illness is over, but nothing is ever simple or easy for the Kayrs family.
Loved this exciting peek-in with Talen and Cara and a few other series regulars for a great cross-over story that may be novella length, but its developed and complete. If you’re a fan of action-packed passionate paranormal romance, but haven’t read the Dark Protectors, take a gander at those and prepare for a good time.
I love and adore Talen so I enjoyed reading this novella with him as the main character. It was also good to catch up with Garrett and Logan, since they have started working with the Realm Enforcers.
Cara was, as always, a little annoying. They’re in danger several times and instead of doing what Talen asked, she jumps right in which causes Talen, as well as Garrett and Logan at another time, to have to worry about her safety instead of being able to fully concentrate on their enemies. I’m all for being a strong independent woman, however the ladies in this series sometimes go a little overboard.
Overall, nice short story.
4.5 stars
Whoo boy, this one is super steamy! Of course, readers of this series know that Talen and Cara have amazing chemistry. This story reiterates what we already know, plus takes their love (and sex) life to the next level.
Of course, things can never be all bluebirds and butterflies for this couple. There is a lot of action and danger happening in this story, too.
Although this is a fun, sexy, and emotionally satisfying trip, there’s not a lot to say in a review. This story, at least how it seems to me, is padding to this overall series. Something to whet the appetites of rabid fans who have been missing the Kayrs family. And that’s okay. I still loved it all.

This was a quick almost “slice of life” novella featuring the first mated couple, Talen and Cara. They are on their way to deliver blood samples to one of the land when they are attacked by demons. After multiple attacks they finally realize what the demons were after and the conflict ends.
It was nice to see how the Kayrs are coping with peace, which is not very well. They are still in overprotective mode and expect everything to go wrong. It was fun watching Cara try to get Talen to relax a little. I liked that she was pushing him to treat her normal since she isn’t sick anymore and he doesn’t have to baby her. I also liked that she was kicking ass when danger happened. She didn’t hide behind her husband or son.
This was short, sweet, and filled with action. A nice little side addition that adds more to the world and characters.
TALEN is a short story that takes place after the ending of the war. Cara is no longer sick and is trying to find purpose in this time of peace. She’s got plans but she’s also got an overbearing mate that refuses to let her out of his sight and would prefer she stay hidden, wrapped in cotton and tucked away safely for all time. Fortunately, Cara is not having any of that.
I really enjoyed this novella. I love how strong Cara is and that she won’t back down from her mate’s demands or any threats that try to take away her independence. Cara wants her own identity and to forge her own path, which is very important to her. She’s the kind of heroine you want to be, especially if you’re mated to a foxy vampire like Talen. RAWR!
This is a quick, full throttle read that will leave you wanting more! I recommend this or any books by Rebecca Zanetti.
***I read copy of the book offered to the blog by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All conclusions reached are my own***
This is an excellent book and Rebecca Zanetti is one of the most amazing storytellers. This is by far the Best Vampire books ever. And Talen Kayers is a bad ass who loves his family. The Dark Protectors series is a must read. And when left wanting more read the Realm Enforcers.
A little glimpse in to Talen and Cara’s relationship after the war and the virus is cured. There are a lot of familiar faces and it was great catching up with their lives.
After years of war Cara Kayrs is feeling better and with her Vampire husband Talen Kayrs in tow, she departs for a trip that should be met without danger. Cara is thrilled to be spending time with Talen and out from the protection of the Dark Protectors but not everything goes as planned and she becomes a target.
If you read the fist book in this series than you know this couple. They are one of my all time favorite couples and this was another delightful read about them. Had several of my favorites that made appearances in the short story. One of the best series out there.
It’s Talen…… OMFG it Talen. OMG OMG OMG I think I fainted for a minute there. I am absolutely crazy in love with Talen. So imagine my surprise and delight to find this awesome Talen novella at the end of Wicked Burn. Talk about losing it. First I yelled, squealed, and screech. This short story was just so good. I truly loved every flippin’ minute of it. Then I went back and reread it because…. Talen! I loved getting to catch up with Talen and Cara. Seeing them 25 years after their mating and seeing that their love is as strong as ever. Janie and little hope was in here too. Hope is so cute especially how she loves her grandpa Talen. That little girl has great taste! I really hope Hope(lol get it… hope Hope I’m a dork) gets her own book. I also loved all the Garrett time we got in this book. Talen is still as alpha as ever and it was fun how Cara challenged him. He is such a beast.
Another great novella! Rebecca is one of my top favorite paranormal authors and her Dark Protector series as well as her Realm Enforcer series. Two series that I never get tired of re-reading over and over.
I think that Talen and Cara started it all. With two kids grown and the war over and Cara now cured Cara is up to spreading her wings yet again. Talen always in protective mode is against it but his will-full wife will have her way.
What started out as a simple task turned into a misadventure for the two but something that totally brought back something exciting and some extra spice into their love life. Not that their love life is suffering in anyway but with Cara no longer sick she wants Talen to stop treating her with kid gloves. She wants the fire and heat and for him not to hold
himself back she wants to experience the real dominate dangerous male he truly is.
Well let me say the gloves are off and Cara is feisty as ever. Talen is in for it now.The love between this couple has always been truly something and I am glad to see things have never changed.I have always loved the chemistry this couple have for one another they always seem to create heat and fire by even being in the same room together.
A cute story of a test of wills and how one handles the dominate deadly protective vampire who needs to let go and trust that his wife is capable of taking care of herself.
I loved seeing Cara and Talon rekindle things again.I loved the fact their still in love more then ever.I loved the fact that Talon made sure just who Cara belonged to by remarking her all over again.A Swoon worthy moment once again and a fee ooh’s and uh’s…. from us
(smiles)
I will never get tired of reading about this two and it was nice to read about them again they are one of my top favorite couples in this series.
I hope will be seeing more of this couple again in the future as Cara talking about having more children so perhaps their will be yet another story about them.
As always we love seeing the other characters we have read about gracing the pages of this story as well as we love them also. And Dage he always makes me laugh got to love him!
Loved it from cover to cover!
