The Army trained Lieutenant Liberty McCoy to be the best—an elite Special Forces soldier, just like her father and uncles. But nothing prepared her for the bossy, good-looking Navy SEAL who rescues her after a mission goes horribly wrong.
Navy SEAL Drake Hayes thinks his team is being sent out on a special purpose extraction. He’s had enough experience to expect the unexpected. But nothing … nothing prepared him for the brave, tough woman he finds.
Their attraction is immediate, overwhelming, and all-consuming. But distance and military regulations force Drake to walk away.
When Liberty’s family discovers her capture wasn’t an act of war but a decade’s old, personal vendetta and she’s still in danger, the men of the 707 move swiftly to exact their revenge. Haunted by the torture she’d endured, plagued with guilt, and heartbroken over losing the man she’d fallen in love with, Liberty spirals out of control, leaving her alone, lost, and adrift.
When Drake faces the decision to save his career and reputation or the woman he loves, the choice is easy. Leaving everything he’d worked so hard for behind, it’s time to follow his heart. Will Drake make it in time, or is Liberty too far gone?

Wow, wow, wow! I loved this book! Each book in this series just gets better and better! This is Drake and Liberty’s story and what a wild ride it is!! One minute I’m on the edge of my seat turning pages as fast as I can and then I realize the story is going by way too fast!! I didn’t want it to end! What would you sacrifice for the love of your life? Drake literally puts it all on the line for Liberty. Their story is raw and emotional. It’s full of the trauma that we call life. Yet it’s full of the love of family and friends!! Truly, truly amazing!!
So it’s finally here. The end. Riley Edwards concludes the Next Generation Series with her newest book Taking Liberty. And boy-howdy it’s a doozy! Let me see if I can break it down for you.
I’ve come to the end. Of my container of ice cream (just stick with me…). It’s my favorite brand and I’m sad. But rather than just finishing it up with a spoon and the container…I’ve decided I’m gonna use it in a sundae. I’m planning on layering up that goodness with more goodness. Chocolate sauce, a drizzle of caramel, some whipped cream, and of course the cherry on top! But how does this relate to Riley Edwards and Taking Liberty are you asking? Just think about it…
The Next Generation Series has been that favorite container of ice cream. And every new book in that series has been a decadent serving from that container. With Taking Liberty, yes you’ve reached the end and you’re sad but you know what you’re having is gooey goodness. Plus Riley Edwards gives you those extra toppings making this the best yet.
Liberty McCoy is like no other. Don’t get me wrong, ALL of Riley’s heroines have been the shizzle but Liberty has that extra…oomph. She’s the base of this sundae. She has the richness of character with the boldness of flavor that stays true until the end. What she endures in this book can break your heart but her steadfastness and family support level everything out. Just like the sauce we’ve added to the sundae. It evens out the flavors but also gives us that warm fuzzy feeling. Now Drake…he’s those extra toppings I was talking about. He’s the whipped cream, the sprinkles, and even the nuts that take this sundae over the top. From the moment that Drake meets Liberty and y’all have to admit that was EPIC; there’s just this thread that connects them. Drake’s honor, integrity, and loyalty are what make him the perfect match for Liberty.
This amazing journey that Riley Edwards has allowed us to tag along on ends with the distinction. From the very first book, we have been brought into this wonderful world. With breathtaking accuracy, Ms. Edwards has shown us how truly family dynamics work. They aren’t always perfect but they always have your back. That family is not always just blood but also bonds. But I’m missing something to finish off my sundae…OH! Yes. The proverbial cherry on top! Triple Canopy. That’s the cherry. The sweetness that makes this sundae complete. The anticipation that even though we’re done with our sundae but we have more yumminess coming…
And I’m excited to start enjoying the new flavors Riley Edwards has in store for us. This flavor is complete but there’s always room for more ice cream!!
Wow. Straight into the nitty gritty and start if an explosive read. Straight from the off, it was all action, full of thriller, action and uncertainty. Liberty (name of the book) from what we have read, has been captured and is going through torture. With not hope of being rescued she has made her peace to die. Drake is sort of a team who is tasked to rescue those that have been captured. Then ensuing gunfight sees 6 bodies retrieved. A man closer to home is revealed to be a baddie but who gave him the info needed?????? I was so engrossed with the details and story of this book that I had to read it all in one go. I just couldn’t put it down. My heart broke for Liberty and her team and what the endured but with all stories about the military it’s true that they have your back and trust unless you or someone crosses them. I have loved this whole series of books but I am excited with the new books that will follow in the new series.
WOW, this books was worth the wait! I couldn’t put it down, action packed and captivating. I read this in (almost) a single sitting. Another great addition to this series, maybe even my favorite (so far).
From the first pages of this book, Riley Edwards gives readers EVERYTHING!! I laughed, I cried, and I even yelled while reading this book. I could NOT book this book down. Knowing this was the last book in the series, I was sad, but it’s the PERFECT ending! The best thing is you can read it as a stand alone, if you’re new to Edwards, and not feel lost. To loyal readers like myself, it’s like coming home to some of your favorite people. Drake is a man after my own heart. He’s everything and more that Liberty would need. Liberty is by far the strongest, most bad ass woman character I’ve ever met! Edwards does a fabulous job balancing out the tough as nails solider and the woman who needs help. I had a smile on my face as I finished this book. Highly recommend it!
This is the 7th and final book the Next Generation portion of this series! And I would absolutely read the previous books, and the original series of books before reading this one! That being said, we finally get Liberty’s book!! Liberty McCoy is a soldier like her father and uncles before her. But a mission goes wrong and she is taking prisoner. She doesn’t expect to be rescued. And she certainly doesn’t expect to be rescued by a bossy navy seal who won’t let her sink into self-pity or her own mind. Drake thinks his team is being sent in on a special extraction, but he never expects Liberty. Nor does he expect to feel any kind of connection to her. And after walking away because of regulations, neither expect to see each other again.
I absolutely LOVED this one! Loved it! Liberty has always seemed to be this kick butt woman who never lets anything hold her back or derail her dreams. She never expects the things that happen to her to happen, and the way she handles everything just shows how human she really is. And how much heart she has. I loved her! Drake is definitely the bossy, protective, alpha male but he is also willing to do whatever he needs to in order to make sure the people he cares about are able to be happy and have their own dreams. He is absolutely awesome and I loved him! This family has gone through so many things in their lives but they show you that if you stick together you can make it through anything. And that even though they aren’t all blood related, blood doesn’t make a family. Love and caring do. Bring your tissues because there are parts that will make you cry!!
WOW! This book is such an emotional roller coaster of feels…… I honestly didn’t know how much Liberty could take but she just kept powering through and taking the hits…… literally and emotionally…… Drake is bound and determined to make her let it out even if that means taking it out on him….. then when you think it’s over once again the hots just keep coming for the both of them and even Liberty’s family and they all feel it deep. This book is definitely a MUST read but….. make sure you have the tissues handy and time to finish the book because once you start you cant put it down….. Riley once again knocked it out of the park
What an emotional roller coaster and a thrill of a ride I didn’t want to get off of as we learn Liberty’s fate and what she goes through in the hands of a man who is out for revenge. Drake and his SEAL team rescues her and from the moment he sees and tends to her, he starts falling for the strong brave stubborn woman. Liberty has her demons to face and Drake helps guide her but they can’t be together, rules of fraternization keep them apart. With her torturer still out on the loose, as well as the man Liberty was hunting, their secret revealed, betrayal from within, Liberty’s demons and Drake’s life altering decision had me on the edge of my seat, flipping the pages to see how it will all end.
Holy smokes this read had it all steam, betrayal, action, secrets, heartbreaking scenes, suspense, torture, and best of all the family rallying together to stand by Liberty, guiding her to face her demons that had me misty eyed. Another warning with this book as before….tissues will be needed throughout. There is too much and I could go on and on and on about this book and how fabulous this author is with Liberty’s story, flowing beautifully and not missing a beat….no review could give it justice and the best I can say is….not a read to be missed and don’t forget the tissues!!!
*I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
Riley Edwards does not disappoint. This book was an emotional rollercoaster. Liberty is a strong ass special ops soldier who has been taken hostage. This is her story and you won’t be able to put it down.
I was given an advanced reader copy and I voluntarily leave this review.
Taking Liberty is the last book in the Next Generation 707 spinoff and I think Riley Edwards saves the best for last. Liberty is one badass soldier! She meets Drake during a traumatic time and she feels an immediate pull towards him. They both fight against that pull, but eventually succumb to the inevitable. Liberty and Drake believe their time together is limited but is it?
I cannot believe this series has come to an end, but I’m anxiously awaiting the next. Riley does an amazing job bringing this chapter to a close while opening another. I love that we got to catch up with previous characters. This family, by bond not blood, is full of alpha males and strong women. I can’t wait to see what is to come!!
Drake and Liberty was perfect together. Both of them fighting their attraction to each other. Drake goes after what he wants and doesn’t take No for an answer. Great Story!! I love how you get updates on other stories.
This book invoked so many thoughts and feelings, I am not sure anything I say will really do it justice but here goes…
For starters, Taking Liberty is brilliant! The cast of characters, the backdrops, the conversations, the actions, just all of it on point, believable, intense, emotional, sexy, and so much more. The beginning tied me in knots and broke my heart and actually made me take a pause. The agony, the despair, the sense of loss, the physical pain, the psychological turmoil all almost too much to bear. That is Edwards’ gift to writing these stories. The characters come alive on the pages and the scenes pull you right in.
Liberty and Drake’s story is gritty, unfettered, and invokes all the feelings. I was still trying to process it all when I was done. The journey these two characters take is beautiful and heart wrenching and unmatched by any others in the series. *Do not get me wrong, I absolutely loved every book in this series, this one just seems to stand one step ahead of the rest.*
Liberty’s struggles with guilt and nightmares that constantly weigh heavily on her soul and send her into a spiral she is not sure she can overcome. Her anger and fears push hard at her as she lashes out at those she loves leaving her feeling more lost and alone and unsure of everything she knows, including herself most of all.
Drake is absolutely perfect for Liberty. He actually “sees” her! He sees behind the tough exterior to the vulnerable woman underneath. He knows she is a warrior, sees her strength, knows she is capable of taking care of herself. She is his equal in every way and she stole his heart the first time he saw her. He knows when to stand by her side, when to take over, and when to give her a gentle push. He takes some hard knocks in the story as well, and the steps he takes and lengths he goes to protect Liberty as well as to make her his own are breathtaking and beautiful and show his steadfast love for her.
The closer I got to the end of this story, the more bittersweet it became. Taking Liberty is the last book in the Next Generation series but Edwards does not leave us hanging; there is more to come with these great characters. Since Liberty’s trouble is personal and revolves around her family, Edwards shifts us to the McCoy homefront and Triple Canopy with her parents, uncles, cousins, and their spouses where they all dive into the fray to eliminate the threat to Liberty and her family once and for all. And in doing so, we get to meet the characters next in line to steal our hearts with their stories as Triple Canopy will be spinning off with new adventures. The epilogue is also wonderful, sweet and emotional, and a perfect wrap up to this series. Absolutely perfect all the way around!
Riley does it again…only this time it seemed a bit more emotional, if that is even possible. This book didn’t seem to have quite the amount of steamy-sexy scenes to it that Riley’s other books have. However, it definitely still had that wow factor and the scenes that were included will replay in your memory for a long time to come. I work with veterans everyday who suffer from PTSD and this book delved into PTSD and the intricacies that veterans deal with. It is heart wrenching to witness and Riley did an amazing job portraying that. Liberty’s strength is amazing to witness and Drake’s love is everything you could want in a man. This book is emotional, a rollercoaster really. Be ready to buckle up for the ride. You will laugh and you will cry…and you will think about Liberty and Drake for a long time to come. Riley always leaves us wanting more—So excited to read the Triple Canopy Series next!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I am a crier… I cried in all the other books, the 707 series as well as Next Generation, and this book was no exception. But these were good tears… Wow what an amazing family Liberty is blessed with. I will miss them all, can’t believe it is the end of this series.
The book starts off with a BANG!!!! That first chapter will just have you sitting on the end of your seat, so if possible, see that there is no distractions when you start reading this book.
Liberty is an amazing woman and tough as nails. Being captured and tortured and going out in the field right after is an amazing feat, but considering her family tree…. guess it should be no surprise.
We have a lovely, protector in Drake and the way the rest of his team also gathers around her, just makes you like them immediately.
Drake is a strong hero and does not let Liberty shy away form the after effects of her experience or the emotional storm that comes after.
Can’t wait for the Triple Canopy series to start. The characters for those books are already close to my heart.
Thanks Riley. Another great read.

I am quite sad to see this series end and close another series out in the 707 world. These characters are like family and each book gives you a glimpse into their world.
We knew from the epilogue from Quinn’s book that Liberty’s would be action filled. It was so much more than I expected. She is a strong, strong woman. Drake was a surprise. 100% Alpha but so sweet and soft when needed. These two together with the push and pull keeps you hooked all the way to the end.
I admit I didn’t want the book to end but I am looking forward to Hadley’s book.
This one gives you ALL the feels! Liberty is as tough as they come and definitely not the one you expect needing to be rescued but this book pulls you in from the first page and you can’t put it down. Drake is not expecting to find Liberty when he’s sent in for a rescue, or the toughest most amazing woman he’s ever met. Their story is full of intrigue and suspense but also a beautiful love story that unfolds despite all the obstacles that fall in front of them. When it turns out that Liberty’s capture was actually a revenge plot against her family, you see the men of the 707 back in action and once again you see the dynamics of this family and series that make it one of the best I’ve ever read. Drake and Liberty are absolutely perfect together and watching their story unfold is one you don’t want to miss!
I can say without a doubt this one will stick with me for awhile.
Liberty’s story is so emotional. I was so engrossed that it took me 4 days to finish it because I was so scared to see what would happen next.
The ending did not disappoint. I absolutely loved this story!!!!
I wish I could give more than a 5-star review, this book deserves it. What an emotional roller coaster. Liberty is such an unbelievably strong woman feel what she went thru, just amazing work by this author. And Drake, just wow!!! There are just no other words to describe him except maybe awesome. I loved how her entire family, parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins just circled her and showed such overwhelming support and love that I had tears in my eyes. I’ve read thru out the series the phrase “they’d created beauty”. It’s true, every one of these books has beauty in them. I have always loved that phrase it describes these books. As I’m sad to see the next generation series ending, I also know a new one is starting and these past characters will play a role in them.
I’ve been looking forward to reading Taking Liberty since the series started. What a phenomenal book! Liberty takes the title of strongest female character, hands down! Every time I wanted to cry for her, I couldn’t, because she didn’t cry for herself. Drake was the perfect complement for her tough personality because he understood more than others what she was dealing with mentally. The story was fast paced and filled with suspense and romance. While it may be the last book in the series, the ending sets readers up for Riley’s new Triple Canopy series, and we meet the key characters. Can’t wait for more!
Riley Edwards is a master at writing books that sucks you in, with storyline that flows, characters that are strong yet vulnerable that you can’t help but get invested. Taking Liberty is another strong example of such a book, however, I find this book to be more heart wrenching and boy do you need tissues on standby (consider yourself forewarned).
Honestly, the story of Liberty gripped me even before this book begins. I’ve always been curious about Liberty McCoy, I’m drawn to her character and have been looking forward to her book. Once again Ms Edwards does not disappoint her readers as she gifted us with 2 of the strongest and raw main characters that she could have ever written. I cannot imagine what toll it took on Ms Edwards to write such characters with an equally gripping storyline but I’m one lucky reader to reap the bounty.
I am sad for this is the end of this series but I am looking forward to Ms Edwards newest series, Triple Canopy.
