The Army trained Lieutenant Liberty McCoy to be the best—an elite Special Forces soldier, just like her father and uncles. But nothing prepared her for the bossy, good-looking Navy SEAL who rescues her after a mission goes horribly wrong.
Navy SEAL Drake Hayes thinks his team is being sent out on a special purpose extraction. He’s had enough experience to expect the unexpected. But nothing … nothing prepared him for the brave, tough woman he finds.
Their attraction is immediate, overwhelming, and all-consuming. But distance and military regulations force Drake to walk away.
When Liberty’s family discovers her capture wasn’t an act of war but a decade’s old, personal vendetta and she’s still in danger, the men of the 707 move swiftly to exact their revenge. Haunted by the torture she’d endured, plagued with guilt, and heartbroken over losing the man she’d fallen in love with, Liberty spirals out of control, leaving her alone, lost, and adrift.
When Drake faces the decision to save his career and reputation or the woman he loves, the choice is easy. Leaving everything he’d worked so hard for behind, it’s time to follow his heart. Will Drake make it in time, or is Liberty too far gone?

Taking Liberty not only my new favorite book by Riley Edwards, but also one of my favorite Military book ever!!
Amazing ending to the awesome The Next Generation series. Loved everything about this book.
Liberty McCoy is a strong woman and I’m in love with her strength and how bad@ss she is.
She is fearless and a fighter and went through and survived some horrific things.
Drake Hayes is the perfect man for Liberty. A man that saw her for who she is, his equal in every way. Although sometimes he wanted to protect her, he knew she was perfect capable on handling herself.
Love the brotherhood and camaraderie in this book. How they accepted Liberty and the banter between them. I had a huge smile on my face during some of them.
The storyline and the suspense was amazing. Like always, Riley’s writing is fabulous. I couldn’t put the book down because I needed to know what would happened next.
The Epilogue was so beautiful and emotional.
Sad to see this series end. But also so glad for what is coming next. The Triple Canopy series is going to be awesome because I need to read the stories of all of them.
Thank you, Riley for another amazing book and series.
My Rating:
This is the last in the Next Generation series, and I didn’t want the book to end! Liberty McCoy is a strong, courageous female lead. The daughter of Levi and Blake (remember them from Finally Free?), she is captured and viciously tortured – and rescued by Drake and his team. Their connection is instant, and this is one of the most powerful relationships Riley Edwards has written. The story behind Liberty’s capture and subsequent events, the end of an era in Next Generation, and the familial strength that we’ve seen throughout the books all come together to produce a page-turner of a book that is also a tearjerker in the best of ways. I feel that almost anything I write here will be a spoiler, and I would hate to spoil your enjoyment of this book. It is a one-click read for lovers of good writing.

Drake and Liberty…a case of love at first sight. An instant bond that is so strong they are fated to meet and fall in love. Liberty is a strong woman and soldier but with Drake, she can be feminine, desired and supported. Together they are unstoppable. Great read with leads to keep you wanting the Triple Canopy Series.
Riley Edwards scores a winner with Taking Liberty. Page turning from page 1. Drake and Liberty have sparks flying immediately and the sizzle continues. Even if you haven’t read the 707 books or the other Next Generation books, you will enjoy it. For fans of the 707 and Next Generation books, I’m giving a 2 hanky warning. A really good read.
Another great book by Riley Edwards! I love all of her books. They are a exceptional combination between romance and suspense. They are well written and edited. The characters draw you in to point you don’t want to put it down. My only compliant if you will is it was a little heavier on the use of military terms/acronyms.

Taking Liberty is the perfect ending for the Second Generation series and a jumping off point for the next series spinoff Triple Canopy. Riley Edwards hits some real high notes in this story that is gutwrenching at times. It’s fast paced, suspenseful, exciting and a nail biter. There’s also a wonderfully satisfying love story overlaying the action. Plus the continuing theme of family that’s been woven throughout this series is strongly present.
Liberty McCoy is one tough broad whose vulnerability will tug at your heartstrings. She’s a warrior in every sense of the word. She survived to live another day but at what cost? Drake Hayes is the man every woman should have in her life. He and his team rescue Liberty at her lowest point but then he goes on to buoy her up when she’s down, prod her when she tries to give up, keep coming back when she pushes him away and stands by her side in her truimphs.
I just finished reading this book from Riley Edwards and it was awesome from the beginning to the very end! I loved Liberty and her strength amazed me. I have loved all of this series and it was a little sad to see it end, but I am looking forward to the new series! Liberty and Drake are captivating and I truly enjoyed reading their story.

Riley writes a story that makes your cry and laugh through your tears at times. While reading you feel like you are part of the family and all of that love comes right to you. Drake & Liberty meet under horrible circumstances, but their connection with each other is instant and deep. As we read, their love for each other grows as they try and solve who and why Liberty was taken. Riley writes about strong women and men who aren’t afraid to show emotions. While this book is in a series, it can be read as a standalone and has a HEA.

Ok, I can start this review with a big, “Whew!” See, I’ve finished one of Riley’s series before and was left sobbing. Yeah, that was what happened at the end of the Red Team series. This ending was supremely satisfying. We saw the torch passed, and the recipients are already people we know, want to know more about, and can grow to love as we did with Lennox, Clark, Jasper, and Levi.
As I say every time I write a review for one of Riley’s books, she writes the best universes. I am so thankful this one is not ending. I am not going there. I feel like I know these people and Riley’s Rebels are not ready to say good-bye and leave all these folks to their happily ever afters. Not by a long shot. We need more stories, passionate characters, more brave warriors who fight for our country, and more suspenseful adventures.
Liberty’s (also known as Moira) story continues this tradition of great stories birthed from the 707 Series. Liberty is the product of two incredibly strong characters from Finally Free (Blake and Levi), and you can see this in Moira’s strength. Liberty is a badass. Liberty achieved things in the book that I am not sure women have done in real life–yet. When Riley posted her playlist, and it included Warrior by Paloma Faith, I knew we were in for a gut-wrenching journey with Liberty. It was a hard read in many ways; Liberty was allowed to have demons to deal with and nightmares to conquer. These struggles only made her story with Drake more. More passionate, more emotional, more honest, and just a better tale. So when Drake and his team rescue Liberty, you can immediately tell like recognizes like. There the story begins for us, and there is so much to love about this tale.
The Subtle threads woven through Taking Liberty is another facet of why this book is a winner. Just the title, to start, is a big play on words. Threads that go back to the original series. Threads of stories to come. Threads of new faces who we only have the very beginning of their story to look forward to reading. And one of the best threads in the book is the threads surrounding the meaning of names.
Ugh, I don’t mean to drag this review out; however, Taking Liberty is the culmination of so much it’s hard just to cut it short. Liberty’s story is a finely drawn tale of suspense, love, and family. Thank you for ending (but not ending) two fantastic series. And thank you for not making us say good-bye to anyone—now get busy and bring on Triple Canopy!
This book leaves you with so many emotions I laughed and cried and just felt so much for Liberty. In the last book we knew Liberty had been captured. From the beginning of the book you are hooked! Drake Hayes and his team are sent in to find and bring Liberty home. The interaction of these two characters is great! We get to see them come together and Drake trying to help Liberty come to terms with what happened to her before we see the rest of the family. Riley gives us so much emotion in this book it’s full of action, suspense, love and hope. This may be the end of this series but we meet the new guys of Triple Canopy. Can’t wait to see where Riley takes us next!
What a beautiful, sassy and strong woman Liberty is and this book will certainly show you exactly how strong. It will make your heart race in horror, your blood turn cold in fear, you body hurt so much you just want it to stop and anger so bad you want to just kill….then it will take you in the other direction and make your heart race in lust, your mind smile in love and you while body just feel good with a family that cares so deeply and no one is left out. If you enjoy books with all of these feels then this book is for you and you won’t put it down until you’re done. Loved it!!

I absolutely love this series. I finished the book and I immediately want to read it again, the whole series actually. To go over all what happened in my mind again, to delve deeper into the characters, Liberty and Drake, and all the associated family that make up the McCoy’s, Lenox`s, Walker`s, and the Clark’s. They are an awesome family and it`s been a privilege to read about them through the eyes of Ms. Edwards.
I cried at least three times during this book and I laughed way more and held my breath waiting to turn the next page. Ms. Edwards covers all the emotions in each of her books and it`s always a wild ride when you read her stories. `Because until you concede, you cannot begin to recognize your strength`. `God. I`m broken. I can`t. Please, I need help. I can`t … “ All this in front of nine men, Dad, Lenox, Clark, Jasper, Nick, Jason, Carter, Ethan and Jackson. `They had faith in me, even if I couldn’t find it myself.` And now there are a whole bunch more men to support all those strong heroines. The funny stuff, Luke talking about Lucy and Rhoda … The serious stuff, when you die in battle you get celebrated, but when you`re injured you get your walking papers. Totally true. I look forward to every release by Ms. Edwards and highly recommend them to any reader out there.
I received this advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review.
You know when you read a book, or watch a movie, and when it is over you need a minute of silence? Well, in this book I needed an hour!
Taking Liberty is the final book of the Next Generation series (yes, I´m sad too); but it is a great finale! I mean, she is bad ass, strong and feminine. She lives a nightmare, and I don´t know how Riley does it, but you can really feel it all – and it is SO real! He is strong, alpha, and you can´t help but fall in love with him too. And them, you see all the family again….in some ways, they´re more present in this book….and that made me want to re-read all of their stories!
And hey, although I was sad when it was over, Riley gave us hope!!!!! There is a new series coming up: The Triple Canopy….and I´m sure I´ll see them again! Riley, please hurry!!!! Can´t wait!!!
What can I say, Riley you have done it again, awesome, awesome. Loved liberty and drake’s story. It brings all of there stories together with a wonderful ending, but also continues the legacy. Could not put this one down, highly recommend this story, actually all of Rileys books, she knows how to bring you in and you fall in love with all the characters in every single story.
Oh my, where do I begin? This book is riveting right from the beginning. Liberty has been captured and is being tortured. She is so strong and determined not to break. Drake and his team of SEALS are tasked with find her and bring her in. They succeed and there is an Instant connection between Liberty and Drake. It is discovered Liberty was set up and lost her teammates because of this. She completes her mission by going in with the SEALS to eliminate a bomb maker. As they return to the States it’s clear someone is out to ruin Liberty and now Drake. This book is action packed, suspense filled, steamy hot and filled with the whole family the original group of chosen brothers made. This is the last in the Next Generation Series and I look forward to reading the new one.
I f I loved Quinn I love liberty story more awesome book love drake Matt trey and Luke
Really really awesome another must read
I loved Liberty and Drake’s book (not happy about the DD tho)! This a a great series.
I don’t know where to begin with how much I loved Taking Liberty! Liberty McCoy is one of those characters that you connect with from the first page and can’t stop reading until the wee hours. We know from the ending of Keeping Quinn (NG #6) that Liberty was taken hostage. Master Chief Drake Hayes and his team have been charged with finding her and bringing her home. What Drake doesn’t count on is meeting the woman that will change his life as he knows it! Some people rush to find love and others fight it every step of the way. Liberty and Drake know that what they found is special if they are both willing to take the risk but there are other factors in play that are delaying their HEA. This story is too good for me to give away any spoilers but know that in Riley Edwards fashion, Taking Liberty isn’t the ending but a new beginning of hopefully many more great stories in a brand new series. It is told from dual POV and is full of action, angst, love, lust, hope and laughter. Do not miss this book because Riley Edwards has given us a great story to get lost in!
