When Harper is reluctantly roped into being the charity date for the Ice Hawks she is mad when the rookie Jordie bids on her. She is not a fan of players.
Great romance. Harper is feisty. I loved how earnest and sweet Jordie is. She makes him work for it. The chemistry was great. Sneak peeks into the previous couples. I am sad that this is the last book of the series. Great sports themed romance with great story lines.
I was so excited for this book, but when I got it I was kind of sad because it means that this series is over!! Jordie’s book was soooo good, I can almost say it was my favorite, but Kendall’s Hot Jock series is like your children you can’t choose which one is your favorite!
I loved Jordie and Harper story, it was funny, romantic, full of feels and their chemistry was sizzling! Jordie is not used to being turned down by woman, that is until he won a date with Harper in a charity auction. The hockey team coach is Harper’s father, so knowing their mode of operation for a long time, she swore to never ever date a hockey player.
It was fresh and funny how Jordie tried for a long time to win Harper over, all of his tactics went downhill and she gave him a big no for a long time. But with some help of her amazing friends and even her dad, she gave him a chance. I enjoy a lot that both of them had to overcome some deep emotional issues, him with his mother abandonment and she with her unstable childhood.
Right in the beginning of the book, when Jordie did the bet with his teammates, I knew that would be bad! But I never thought the caos that would issue in their world. But I liked how they had to work their problems and that Harper didn’t forgave him that easily, and let me tell you his grovel was beautiful!
Jordie never thought of Harper as a game, and when he found out that she was his everything, was swoon worthy! I loved every second of this book and they capture my heart at every page. And omg! You’ve got to read updates of every past couple of the series and now I’m going to miss them all!
Overall Grade:
From her first book in the Hot Jock series, Kendall Ryan has hooked me. If I knew more about hockey, I’m sure I could use some simile or metaphor to allude to the series’ impact, but I’m not that astute. I could easily say, though, that this series in general is a clear goal putting a win in Kendall Ryan’s column. And her last book, Taking His Shot is the hockey stick to knock it in there.
Let me be clear, though. Of the series, this book feels the most innocuous. With the other books in the series, the tropes are clear ranging from best friend’s sister to sexual abuse survivor to forbidden (I see you Morgan) to reverse age gap. Quite honestly, there is a book in this series for any reader of romance. With Taking His Shot, I think what Kendall Ryan is offering us is a two-fold goal: (1) given that we’ve been dealing with a professional hockey team, we need a story with the coach’s daughter (I’ve read enough sports romance to know that this is often forbidden) and (2) she needed one more story to neatly wrap up this series.
Let’s talk about that second point. What Kendall Ryan has done with Taking His Shot is bring us back into the other players’ stories. I love that all of them are represented in the book. That isn’t the case with the other books in the series. Even more exciting is the way that Ryan has framed this series. The first book offers the story of Justin and Elise, and she crafts their happy ending in this book. I love when writers book-end their stories, and it’s clear that Ryan planned this from the beginning. This epitomizes her writing ability. Besides Justin and Elise, though, she gifts us with more of Owen, Grant, Morgan, Teddy, and Asher. We know who is married now, who has kids, and where each of them is going. When you end Taking His Shot, you feel ready for it. Kendall Ryan has created a complete series, and the only sadness lies in having to say that final goodbye. However, Kendall Ryan being Kendall Ryan, we know there are more stories in other worlds ahead for us, so don’t feel too sad.
Now, let’s deal with my first idea: a story with the coach’s daughter. Beyond that storyline,Taking His Shot is basic contemporary romance: boy meets girl, boy tries to bed girl, girl resists, boy has to win her over, boy wins girl over after quite a bit of work but quickly proceeds to muck it up, boy has to work to win girl over again while both of them are depressed over losing each other, and boy and girl finally reconcile and live happily ever after. Who doesn’t love that storyline? This is Kendall Ryan’s niche; it’s her superpower in the world of romance. Now, complicating this is the idea of pursuing the coach’s daughter. In most sports romance, this is a forbidden storyline, and Ryan touches on that briefly, but that isn’t the situation in this romance. Instead, Jordie, the hero, is forthright in his pursuit of Harper. In being “mostly” honest with Harper’s father, the coach helps Jordie, and he acts as Jordie’s “father figure.” This upends that common sports romance trope, so, instead, this story becomes about two people fighting each other to find a relationship. It’s in this fight where the chemistry builds, eventually pouring off the page. Ryan’s ability to evolve Harper’s interest is a nod to her craftsmanship. She takes a character who is “anti-hockey players” to a mighty degree and offers up a beautiful relationship between Harper and Jordie. This is where Ryan impresses you the most, I think.
Even more, Ryan weaves in lessons about fathers. Both Jordie and Harper’s fathers have imprinted themselves on their worldviews. As they are drawn together, they must challenge what they’ve learned to get to the root of their issues. The personal evolutions of Jordie and Harper are insightful and suggest that we could all look inward, challenging our personal biases.
Am I sad to say goodbye to Kendall Ryan’s Hot Jocks series? I mean, I wouldn’t be upset if Ryan, in the future, crafted a bonus scene to update us on our favorite Seattle hockey players. However, she shows her writing acumen in Jordie and Harper’s romance and her ability to invest her readers in her characters. While Jordie and Harper end this series well, I think Kendall Ryan was her best earlier in the series with Owen’s and Grant’s stories. In the end, though, she made me fall for this band of professional hockey players. If you love sports romance, Ryan is a great place to land.
Sexy, flirty fun end to the series! Ashley @ Carolina Chic’s Read
Oh is the series really over!!!! I could not wait to see Jordie fall and get his happily ever after and Kendall Ryan did not disappoint. This story has all the feel you expect! Jordie is the hockey rookie wins a date at an auction will it change his life for the better! Harper has one rule never date a hockey player. But when she has to step in at the Hockey Teams auction for her dad and has to go on a date with a hockey player will her rules be broken. Could not put this book down and wish it wasn’t the last but can’t wait to see what Kendall Ryan come up with next!
This has been one of my favorite sport romance series. I can’t believe we are already on the last book but love how Kendall sent us out with a BANG!
Jordie and Harper are fantastic characters and I was rooting for Jordie all the way. What starts out as a win date ends with an explosive story. These two together will set your drawers on fire! This story as the others in the series are definite reads. I highly recommend them all.

4.5 Stars!
Jordan Prescott is a 25 yr. old rookie NHL player for the Seattle Ice Hawks. He feels lucky to be playing the sport he loves for a living. He works and plays hard, but hasn’t had a serious relationship. Lately he longs for something a little deeper and longer lasting than his usual encounters. When he attends a hockey charity auction, he meets a woman named Harper Allen that becomes a game changer for him. He wins a date with the feisty, stunning, outspoken brunette, and is instantly intrigued. He’s unbelievably attracted to her, but it’s more than that. He’s never chased a woman like this before, but he feels a connection unlike any other. He wants her to give him a chance, and he won’t give up without a fight. He’s determined to prove he’s worthy, and win her over.
Harper Allen is an intelligent, single woman living in Seattle. She enjoys her career writing for an online magazine, but her social life is lacking. When she finds herself suddenly being pursued by a confident, delicious hockey player caution flags go up in her head. If you look at him too long, you could almost forget your own name, but she has a strict rule about not dating hockey players. She grew up in the world of hockey, and knows his type. A professional young, gorgeous athlete used to getting what he wants, but when she see’s the real Jordie, and his persistent dedication, it’s hard to resist his charms. There’s something about him that’s different, and she’s drawn to him. Will she finally give him a chance, or will secrets revealed ruin their forever?
Taking His Shot (Hot Jocks #7) by Kendall Ryan is a sexy, fun, flirty story with all the feels. This is the last book in the series, but can be read as a standalone. I loved this whole series, but Jordie will completely steal your heart with the way he works for the affection of the woman he wants to be his. He falls hard, and wants his shot with Harper. He’s super swoony, and one of my top favorites of the series!
Harper is a coach’s daughter and so over hockey players. She refuses to date any guy that plays hockey. Jordie is a star hockey player and wins a date with Harper for a charity event. He is determined to get Harper to see him for more than a smug jock. I liked the couple in this story and how they came together once they got to know each other. A good finish for this series.
Harper agrees to help her father out at last minute that’s how she meets Jordie. He plays hockey for her father’s team and he’s won a date with her. There’s only one problem, Harper refuses to date hockey players, can he convince her to give him a chance?
I looooooooooved this series and I thought this book was a great one to end on! Harper doesn’t date hockey players. Her dad’s life in hockey has turned her off from dating one. But Jordie is bound and determined to get to know her. Oooh boy! I was very quickly lost in this story and I couldn’t read it fast enough. I liked the ease these two had with each other. Their friendship felt real and their blossoming feelings were fun to watch. The chemistry between them was strong! Once things got hot and heavy, so did the feels. If you love a sweet, compassionate, and sexy hockey player then Jordie is the book boyfriend for you!
Its sad to say goodbye to this series but Kendall saved the best for last. This one was a fun and entertaining read.
I loved Jordie and Harper. I was thoroughly entertained watching their dynamic play out! After making a promise to herself never to date a hockey player she is now faced with having o go on a date with her thanks to her fathers interference.
I loved Jordie’s perisistence, he is determined to win over the ice princess and show that there is more to him then the fact he plays hockey.
The chemistry between these two was off the charts hot even when Harper is denying it.
I cant wait to see what Kendall brings us next
With Taking His Shot, we finally get a glimpse into Jordie’s life. He bets and wins a date with the Ice Princess at a charity auction and little does he know, the Ice Princess is none other than Harper, the coach’s daughter. Harper hates athletes, especially hockey players and has sworn them all off. What she doesn’t realize is that Jordie will go to great lengths to get under her skin and win her over. Will she fall for his moves?
I absolutely loved Jordie’s character and think he’s amazing, funny and charming. He’s been through a lot in his life and deserves a chance with Harper. Taking His Shot was cute and sweet. You will enjoy this read if you love a sports romance. 4 stars!
While I’m sad to see it end, I think that Jordie and Harper were the perfect way to end the Hot Jocks series! I LOVE how Harper made Jordie work for her attention! Their chemistry was perfect, I loved their banter and the sex was HOT!! This is one of THE best hockey series that I’ve ever read and each couple brought so much to the table.
Taking His Shot is Book 7 of Kendall Ryan’s Hot Jocks Series and as the final book in the series marks the end of an era. Each book features a sexy as puck hockey playing God and the smart and sexy woman who tames him and honestly it doesn’t get much better then that.
Jordie is the rookie and has a lot to learn especially when he’s stupid enough to make a bet about winning over a certain hottie he’s never even met. The hottie is Harper. She’s the coach’s daughter and as such has a steadfast rule about dating players. But what she doesn’t realize is that Jordie has taken a liking to her despite his never wanting to have a relationship status and it is on. He pursues her, she rejects him, but he is tenacious and never lets up until he gets the girl. A fitting end to a fantastic series. TBR and Enjoy.
‘Taking His Shot’ is the last stand-alone hockey romance book in the ‘Hot Jocks’ series by the gifted author Kendall Ryan. It’s told in dual perspectives and follows the lives of Jordie and Harper.
Jordie is a rookie for the Ice Hawks hockey team in Seattle. Every year the team has a charity auction, and the big ticket item is a date with the Ice Princess. It’s usually one of the players who wins the date, and this year, Jordie does just that. But little does he know, he’s got his work cut out for him with this one.
Harper’s father is the coach of the hockey team. When this year’s Ice Princess goes down for the count, he begs her to step in as the replacement. Of course she agrees for him, but she stands by her rule… Never date a hockey player. But thankfully this isn’t an auction for a real date. It’s just for charity.
Jordie is not used to being turned down by women. But a date with Harper proves to be quite the challenge. She wants nothing to do with him, but he’s not giving up until he gets the girl. He is determined to convince her that there is more to him than just being a hockey player.
I absolutely loved this story! Harper is such a strong, independent and relatable heroine with great friends. And Jordie is the perfect hero. He is sexy, sweet, swoon worthy and absolutely captured my heart. I loved falling in love right along with these two characters.
‘Taking His Shot’ is a fantastic ending to the ‘Hot Jocks’ series. Full of feels and sizzling chemistry, Jordie and Harper’s story was an addicting and unputdownable love story that I devoured all in one day. I loved every single second of this story, and I have no doubt that you will too. Five stars for Jordie, Harper and Taking His Shot!
From the moment we met Jordie and Harper I couldn’t wait to get my hands on their story. So while i was super excited to dive into this one, I was also sad that it would be the last of this series. I have loved all of the characters in this series and didn’t want to say goodbye. However, Ryan ended it perfectly.
Harper and Jordie may very well be my favorite couple of the series. Their chemistry kept me glued to my Kindle and turning the pages until the very end. I couldn’t put it down and before I knew it, it was 2 am and I was finished.
While I am sad to see this series end. i can’t wait to see what Ryan brings us next!
Taking His Shot is the 7th and final book in the Hot Jocks Series and it follows the story of Jordie and Harper. Harper has been burned by hockey players in the past and has made it her number one rule to never date a hockey player again. But, as the saying goes, rules are made to be broken. Harper’s father is in a bind and needs her help, and that is how Harper finds herself at a charity auction; the prize-one date with her….Team rookie Jordie is living the life and is on top of the world and when he ends up winning a date with Harper, his world is about to be turned upside down…..
Overall, I thought this book was a really cute read. I thought the story line was fun and entertaining. I loved the way that Jordie and Harper started out. Harper really knocked Jordie off of his game. Not only did he meet a woman that challenged him and actually said no to a date with him, but just being around Harper made his mind go to mush and the stupidest things would come out. Now, Jordie was in no way perfect and sometimes, I really wanted to knock some sense into him, but I loved his persistence and determination to win Harper over. And Harper…well, I loved how she didn’t make things easy for Jordie. She had her reservations about dating a hockey player and she stuck to her guns. That being said, at the end of the day the chemistry between Jordie and Harper was so burning hot that there was no way these two could stay away from one another. I really enjoyed watching their story unfold and looked forward to seeing how it would all come together in the end.
Taking His Shot was a fun and entertaining read. I devoured it easily in just a single setting. I had a great time getting to know Jordie and Harper. I thought their story was fun, filled with excellent chemistry and had just the right amount of drama added to it. As always, it was fun catching up with old friends and seeing how their stories intertwined with Jordie and Harper’s.
Taking His Shot was a terrific read from beginning to end. I’m sad that this is the last book in the Hot Jocks Series, but at the same time, I’m excited to see what this author has in store for us readers next.
What a way to end this series. Jordie is one hot player but figures out pretty quickly that he doesn’t want to play around with Harper and wants it to be forever. I love that Harper gives him a run for his money and is strong and doesn’t fall so easily for his charms. But while reading, you also can’t deny their chemistry so I also found myself pushing her to give in. This was fun, sexy, and I am sad to see the series go. I am excited for the new stories coming from this author.
Never Say Never
She made a promise to NEVER date a hockey player. Her whole life has revolved around her father’s career as an NHL coach. She refuses to be second to hockey. When she falls in love, she’ll be his number one.
Jordie has been living the the life of a young, successful athlete. Lots of women and partying. When he wins Harper at a charity auction, his lifestyle is about to change. She wants nothing to do with him and now she’s all he wants.
Jordie is persistent. He’s willing to do anything to get Harper to date him. She’s not going to make it easy. He’s not giving up until he gets the girl. He wants the girl and it has nothing to do with that silly bet he made.
Harper and Jordie have chemistry. She’s feisty and knows her own mind. He’s a good guy that doesn’t let people close, but he lets Harper in. They’ll go through some drama, but Jordie’s determination and willingness to lay it all on the line, will get him the girl!
I loved all these sexy hockey hotties! A great series with so many amazing couples and their love story’s.
4 1/2 STARS!
Determination wins the game … and the lady! With the fun conclusion of her ever steamy Hot Jocks series Kendall Ryan takes us on the delectable ride of Jordie in TAKING HIS SHOT. The characters are easy to connect with, their chemistry is spot on and there’s an underlying depth to each of them that make them special.
Jordan Prescott is delightful. He’s just conceited enough to make him adorable, he’s down-to-earth and he’s got an emotional depth that not many see. His determination to date the coaches daughter makes for a humorous read.
Harper Allen is a successful, self-assured woman who doesn’t do hockey … and she most definitely doesn’t do hockey players. She’s so adamant that watching her fall for Jordie’s persistence is all the more fun.
I highly recommend this book and the entire series to anyone who enjoys a good hockey romance filled with a close-knit team of good guys and gals. They’ve been a great ride of laughs, passion and so much heart. Loved the series!
Can I just first say that I am so freaking sad that we are leaving this group? I have adored this series so much and the story of Jordie and Harper was the best icing on the cake to end the series. I loved the quick wit and banter of these two. How he pursues Harper to get her to agree to that date. But I adored the connection these two had the most. It was deep. Even if Harper wouldn’t admit it, they had this beautiful connection that ran so deep. Even when things implode for these two, they never stopped their feelings for each other.
As a whole, their romance was a stunning tale of getting to know one another and finding that love when you least expect it. I adored the build up. I loved the chemistry. It was an amazing story all round.
