At this point I can hardly wait for the next installment of Flynn’s story. You can read my reviews of Books 1 through 3 and the prequel. I just recently finished reading the third book and then read the prequel before starting Book 4. In my opinion, the order Rue wrote the books in is the best order to read them in – so the prequel should be read after Book 3.
While Po was scarcely present in Book 3 he is back in Book 4. And he is still sweet on Flynn’s BFF Hazel. Orturo, Flynn’s trusted falcon, is also back.
Flynn has been taken captive by Magdalana, the Shadow Witch. Magdalana knows Flynn is next in line to be the High Priestess, and knows that Flynn is expected to fulfill the prophecy of the ninth daughter of the ninth daughter reuniting the kingdoms and extinguishing the Shadow Coven. Magdalana would love to draw Flynn to the dark side through the blood they now share.
Flynn is kept in iron bracelets so she can’t use her powers. But unknown to Magdalana and the evil witches who live in fear of her, Flynn can use her powers in spite of the bracelets. However, she knows she must restrain from revealing her magical powers as Magdalana would consider her a threat and kill her immediately. Now all alone, Flynn’s magical strengths are tested as her morale weakens.
Surprisingly, among all her struggles to find an escape, is there a possible romantic attachment for Flynn? And will Hazel be able to find a way to rescue Flynn? Rue, how long are you going to keep us in suspense?
I thoroughly enjoyed this book!! It’s such a great series please start at the prequel and follow the series through to the end.
The conflict Flynn has between staying in the light or embracing the dark (shadow) is one we all face each and every day of our lives. It is so easy to “embrace the dark side “ but that leads to terrible consequences as we mortals know all too well.
I love this series! It just gets better and better! Rue is such a wonderful story teller. Her characters are so life like. They are my friends and I hope they will be yours as well.
There are some other authors I love too but this series touches my heart. I know all to well how it feels to be Flynn before she discovered her “magic”. I can relate to her as if she is a real person saying yes and oh no don’t do that when I read of what she experiences.
Please give this series a try. I’m confident you will be enthralled with it as I am and you’ll be grateful for authors like Rue who can create such a wonderful series. Thank you again Rue!!
This series continues to capture my attention and my heart. I feel a strong connection, not only to the main character, Flynn, but to almost every character that is introduced. I believe that this book in particular really allowed the reader to understand more dimensions of other characters and really bond with them. This is the first time in the series that I felt like Kahu, Flynn’s mother and High Priestess, was seen as loving and vulnerable. It allowed the reader to feel a connection to her that may not have existed before this book. Kahu, in my opinion, has not been my favorite character due to the coldness I felt she showed to Flynn. However, in this book, she broke through that tough exterior and allowed the reader to see that she was a mother and the fear for her child was real. That made a huge impact on how I viewed her and how I will see her going forward.
I also really like the different characters that were introduced in this book and the different relationships that developed. I think these things will allow the storylines to grow and continue to captivate the reader. I am looking forward to how the series progresses.
