Love is the last thing Elspeth MacDougall expects to find when a fierce pirate captain sweeps her from her home straight to the high seas, demanding she ply her skills as ship surgeon to work off her father’s gambling debt. She’s determined to survive the three month arrangement, but dangers abound and there’s more to this vagabond group of raiders than it seems. As sea battles and intrigues … mount, she finds a place among the crew. But can her healing skills save her own heart when her bond with the captain intensifies and passion flares, harder to fight than the crashing waves. Captain Graeme MacNeil never intended to bring a woman on board his ship–they always cause trouble. Yet Elspeth serves a need he can’t deny. If only she didn’t possess an inner blaze that sparks a fire in him as well. His attraction to the bonnie surgeon only grows stronger when they return to his homeland in the Barra, but lurking in the shadows is an old rival, waiting for the chance to strike. As they learn to trust each other, hearts are won, but one question still remains: what will happen once her father’s debt is paid? Will Elspeth return to her family, or choose a life with Graeme on the open sea?

The last book I read from this author was her Earthwalker’s Trilogy, a dark fantasy – paranormal series, so I already knew the author’s writing style, or I thought I did. This is a complete departure from that genre, a medieval historical romance with pirates. And the author does not disappoint in this genre, and I almost like it better than the dark fantasy series.
When Elspeth’s father gambles away money he doesn’t have, and the pirates come to collect, Elspeth offers herself as a substitute, to go with the pirates and work as a surgeon to pay off her father’s debts, so her younger brothers will be safe. Taking care of her father for the years after her mother has died, has given Elspeth a skill of healing, and the pirate captain, Graeme, takes her up on the offer. As Elspeth truly works her magic and becomes a part of the crew, she knows she has found her calling. But falling for the captain was not in her plans…
A good story, with danger, suspense and enough high seas action to satisfy my pirate loving heart, this is a romance that proves to me that this author has truly found her lane. I look forward to reading more of this series and more.
Taken by Graeme is a rip-roaring swashbuckling story with all the violence, danger and adventure in this action-packed rollercoaster ride full of twist and turns that will keep you sitting on the edge of your seat! Each and every character came to life with an incredibly strong plot that you will find yourself drawn into their story! Devilishly handsome Graeme MacNeil a pirate captain of the MacNeil clan comes looking for a gambling dept to be paid, instead of receiving money Graeme ends up with Elspeth a surgeon instead! Feisty Elspeth agrees to set sail with Graeme and his pirate crew for three months to pay back her father’s gambling debts. Sparks fly in this heart pounding story with plenty of drama, kidnapping, deceit, murder and while the suspense builds and tension escalate, and twists and turns abound that makes for one thrilling experience. Jennifer Siddoway has outdone herself with this novel! A Must Read!
Easy read. Interesting characters.
Loved this book!
The entire story was improbable but entertaining. I’m not into picking apart every phrase and character development like some of your reviewers
Had potential, but there was writing was not as fleshed out as I was hoping for.
Good
Oban Scotland 1547. Prepare to step back in time and lose yourself in a tale that will take you on an adventure with a group of pirates and a lass, unexpectedly pulled into their world. Elspeth lived with her two brothers who she was raising and her father, who could not stay sober and seemed to be getting beat all the time. Unfortunately or possibly fate knocked on their door and Captain Graeme MacNeil was there to collect money her father owed him. What were they to do? Elspeth volunteered to go on his ship as a surgeon for three months to help heal his men and in turn he would forgive the debt her father owed him Was she crazy? Looking at the tall imposing man dressed so impressively with a rapier hung at his side, she wondered what she was in for.
Let the adventure begin! Jennifer Siddoway is a consummate storyteller combining danger, intrigue, fierce sea battles for the bounty and of course romance that kept me turning the pages, excited to see what would happen next! I loved Ellie with her determination to work with the crew and Graeme, who was a strong leader but also had a good heart. The attraction between the two came alive and you could almost feel their emotions!
I cannot wait to see the next stories in this series and trust me, you will too!!
PS isn’t that cover gorgeous!
