I loved this book with its different take on a daddy/boy relationship. It really works!
The younger Dom / older sub trope is very popular right now and this book does a wonderful job in exploring that dynamic. Owen in particular is a brilliant character as he hasn’t explored his submissive tendencies and with his three children all grown up and leaving home, he is free to discover who he truly is. And when Declan fixates and decides Owen is his – the sparks fly and some extremely hot scenes ensue. Highly enjoyable start to the series.
I’m reviewing the audio edition. This is the first story I’ve listened to/read by this author. Now I have her added to my watch list. The characters are very likable. The story flow is consistent. The story itself drew me in right from the start. I really appreciated that the author stated right in the blurb that this is not a standalone but rather the first of a trilogy. I enjoyed how uncomfortable Owen is dealing with his sexual side after raising his kids. Not at all what he had planned. The idea of him being a boy in need of a daddy is foreign to him. He has been the responsible, decision maker forever. Declan on the other hand is a complete strong in charge personality and from the start he sets his sights on Owen. I love the beginning of relationships. All the dancing around getting into them. I have to give credit to John Solo the narrator. He gave personality to the characters. I’m really glad all three of these books are available to me from the beginning since I don’t normally do cliffhangers.
This series is one I come back to again and again. An older man who doesn’t see his own value, and a younger Dom who wants nothing more than to show him how treasured he is… and how much pleasure he can find in submission. I love the submissive awakening elements of this story, and the way the romance develops over the course of the books. Also, the side characters are well-written and engaging as well. This is a story about two men finding each other, but also a story about how the relationship fits into their lives, and the lives of those around them.
Daddy kink is one of my favorite tropes, and when Daddy is older than his Boy, so much the better.
Owen was such a sweet man, who had been deeply hurt when his wife abandoned him and their three children. He sacrificed to make sure his children had everything they needed, but now his children are all grown up. Owen is sure that, at his age, he will never be loved again.
Enter Declan Moore, wealthy, young CEO, who is attracted to older men. Declan spies Owen and is determined to make Owen his Boy. His persistence pays off, but there were times I found myself angry at Declan – like the time Declan is in a bar and pays a barely-dressed male dancer to give him a lap dance and “pretend” other favors, because he sees Owen and hopes to make him jealous; or the time Declan emotionally hurt Owen by pushing Owen away when Declan was ill.
We meet Declan’s best friend, Ridge, a whiny, entitle brat who, whether intentionally or unintentionally, tried to drive a wedge between Declan and Owen.
We meet Owen’s children – Summer, Auggie and Oscar, who have a close bond with their father. And we meet Owen’s ex-spouse, Jen, who has transitioned to James, who wanted Owen back despite his having abandoned Owen and their children 15 years prior.
And if you have a chance to listen to the audio book, I highly recommend that you do. John Solo’s voice was perfect. He captured Owen’s sweet, gentle nature, Declan’s dominance and fear, Ridge’s whininess, James’ apologetic calmness, and the emotions of each of Owen’s children beautifully.
Gianni Holmes writing is superb. I am definitely looking forward to the other books in the series.
This was a great first book to the series. Take Care of You is book 1 of three that will follow our two MCs, Declan and Owen. I liked that this was a daddy/boy book, but with the older character as the boy. I thought this added a lot of depth and complexity to their relationship.
Owen is a single father, and I loved his relationship with his kids. It wasn’t perfect, but it felt authentic. He has a lot of insecurities and anxieties, and has spent his life putting everyone before himself. When he meets Declan he has to face the fact that he is a submissive and that he might want to give some control in his life. Declan made a great daddy. Forced to grow up too quickly, he’s matured at a very young age and feels responsible for most of the people in his life.
There were some surprises thrown into the story. Some happy and heartbreaking moments. This made for such an entertaining story. This is definitely an HFN, there are some loose threads, but hopefully book 2 isn’t too far away!
I really enjoyed the reversed dynamics between the main characters. It was really interesting to read and it made perfect sense for those two. Loved it!
Well, this was certainly not what I expected. I really enjoyed the idea of an older man being the boy and a younger man being the Daddy and I thought most of Owen and Declan’s interactions really worked to give both men what they needed. There were quite a few other issues I had however, and the twist used to cause the biggest drama was at the heart of most of them. With an interesting premise this story had a lot of potential but I have to be honest and say that I’m heavily leaning toward not finishing the series.
I didn’t mind the HFN ending too much, though usually I steer clear of those if I don’t have access to the full series, but getting to that ending and then reading the description for Take Care of Me at the end of this book makes me incredibly reluctant to continue. I’d much rather leave it on the more happy note that has hope and progress written into it than to slog through temptations of infidelity because neither man can balls up and put common sense, communication, and love above pride. To be fair, the new synopsis doesn’t reflect those concerns, so maybe it’s a non-issue.
The dynamic was truly interesting and drew me in at the first, but there’s a lot to be said for communicating roles, expectations, and hopes beyond the “I want you.” Their brand of D/b had a lot of potential, but there was too much gray area with unclear intentions at the beginning and inappropriate power usage at the end for me to fall in love completely with their dynamic.
It’s that abuse of power and selfishness that really disturbs me the most. The defeatest attitude from Declan, pushing Owen away, and abusing the role of Owen’s “Daddy” was more disappointing than I can say. While I’m not a fan of Owen’s reaction to his kids’ big secret its consequences pale in comparison to Declan’s appalling behavior.
Overall I thought this story had a ton of potential and I was really excited to read this take on a Daddy/boy relationship, but I’m averse to conflicts intimated in the sequel’s synopsis. A few things fell short in the execution and I can’t decide if Declan’s missteps were intentional to cause trust issues in the coming stories or if it was just poor decision-making on how to create emotional conflict to fabricate angst and interest. I wouldn’t be surprised if I never revisited this series but the lingering affection I do have for what I read came from setting up Owen as the absolutely committed, loving, devoted father. Without Owen’s heart this book would not have held my interest.
Take Care of You by Gianni Holmes is the first book in a new series that will follow the love story between younger Daddy Declan and older boy Owen.
Owen and Declan are great characters and very fun to read about. I love their interactions. They are sexy and sweet and I can not wait to read more about them. Their story captured my attention from the start and I loved every minute of it. There are a few twists and turns I didnt see coming and it keeps me intrigued. I need the next book NOW!
I received an advanced reader’s copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.
This is a different kind of daddy kink story. Declan is a daddy who wants a boy who is older and mature. When he meets Owen, he knows he’s found the one he wants. Owen, father of three young adults who are almost the same age as Declan, takes quite a bit of convincing. Meanwhile, Owen faces some family drama that he never saw coming, and Declan deals with – or rather, refuses to deal with – a medical problem he just wants to ignore. I have to say, there are so many moments I think Declan needs to be shaken, for not understanding that a Daddy/boy dynamic does not take away the partnership element necessary for a strong and lasting relationship. However, I understand his reasoning, flawed though it is.
I really like these characters, and their fun and sexy interaction. I love the way Declan wants to spoil the man who has always put himself last. Watching Owen learn to enjoy life for himself is wonderful. This is an engrossing story that I look forward to seeing continue in the next books in the planned trilogy. I can’t wait to see the next phase of this romance.
This is the book I was waiting for.
I’m the kind of person who always tries to read things that go against stereotypes, and damn, it’s so hard to find such books.
But fortunately, by chance, I came across this talented author, who gave me the chance to read this book which contains one of my favorite kinks, Daddy kink, but with something more, a younger Daddy and a man as the boy.
Declan, although young, has always had to be the one responsible for the family since his mother’s death, finding himself with an irresponsible father, ready to run after some new girl to make them become one of the many new wives he had.
He’s also very rich and powerful, and in need to take control in every situation and to take care of others, mostly he would love to find the perfect man to be his boy, and he sees this possibility when he meets Owen for the first time.
Owen is a single father of 3 children, all adults by now and ready to leave the nest, but after so many years where he has always taken care of others, when he meets Declan, a young guy ready to give him everything just by asking, Owen will find himself in trouble, frightened by the difference in age and by what his children might think of the relationship, but even the stronger man can say no so many times, and Owen is tired of not being himself, only for the sake of others.
It’s finally the time to take his happiness.
Like in every good story, there will be sad and painful moments, but together even the most difficult thing seems a little less fearful.
I can’t wait to read the next 2 books of this amazing series and find out how Declan and Owen’s love will grow.
I really liked this book. The idea of a younger Daddy and older Boy appealed greatly, and I think Ms Holmes did a wonderful job with the emotions Owen felt while trying to figure out if he wanted a Daddy, if it felt right for him. Both Owen and Declan had events in their pasts that shaped the kind of men they are today. With the background the author provided I was able to see the why and the how of the things that both men said and did.
Apart from great s*ex which was hot btw, I liked how both men interacted with people around them. Owen’s children, Declan’s friend and then Owen’s ex which I so didn’t see coming but was very excited to understand. I liked that Declan gave Owen time to work things out, how he supported him without being smothering. I liked Owen’s open mindedness, his wonder when he saw things with fresh eyes which gave Declan an opportunity to experience everything anew.
I liked Declan from the start. His self assurance, his reliability are very attractive. Even though he is 25, he knows what he wants and sets out to get it. He took care of Owen so well – all the romantic, tender and sweet gestures made me like him even more. The one point where he actually acted exactly his age and a bit dramatic at that was in the end. I don’t want to spoil it but even I with my nonexistent medical knowledge knew what was going on, and Declan took it to the new heights of unnecessary drama. But I understood his dilemma in not letting Owen see him weak and sick. One of the main caveat in his relationship with Owen was his strength and control, so when he was stripped of them both he panicked. And Owen thankfully was able to help him see that even Daddy sometimes needs help. Otherwise, it was a very enjoyable book, and I can’t wait to read the next one!
Wow just wow. I loved Declan’s strength, confidence and refusal to give up. He knows what he wants and he isn’t afraid to get it. Owen is strong to but he’s spent so long taking care of his kids in his own that he’s forgotten what it’s like to have someone care for him. The scene at Pride was beautifully written. I loved the older daddy younger boy aspect and that was beautifully written. This book hits every emotion along the way. I cannot wait for book two!!
What a great read!
There is so much I love about this book. First off we have Declan and Owen. Owen is 21 years older than Declan. Add to that Declan is the Daddy in the relationship. Now you see why this was such a great book. Just think of how that comes to be. Yep you guessed it. A bunch of angsty emotional moments to enjoy. And the steam level is high. This book ended at a point that it could be a stand alone but luckily for us Gianni Holmes has two more books planned for our guys.
