When baker Penelope Quinn steps in to help her brother’s family through a medical crisis, she’s forced into close proximity with charming Air Force fighter pilot Eli Price.Penelope has one iron-clad dating rule—she does not date airmen. Months ago, she relaxed her rule with Eli and immediately lived to regret it. After a long deployment, he’s now back in Misty River and, to her dismay, she finds … she finds him just as tempting as always.
Eli’s spent months thinking about funny, feisty, creative Penelope. He once leveraged his focus and drive to become a pilot, his childhood dream. Now he’s set on leveraging that same focus and drive in order to convince Penelope to give him one more chance.
This romantic prequel novella introduces readers to the quaint mountain town of Misty River and a brand-new series from Christy-winning author Becky Wade!

Absolutely adorable. Eli was a no-nonsense kind of guy (airman **swoon**) who wanted something and totally went after it. Penelope was a woman who had witnessed too much heartbreak to let him win too easy. I love how deeply Penelope felt her family connections and how Eli sufficiently uses those connections as a doorway to laying his feelings all on the line. It totally reminds me of the old adage “tell God your plans…and then He laughs”. I can’t wait for the full length Misty River books to come!
This novella introduces the new Misty River Romance series by Becky Wade. I like second chance romances maybe because there have been a few romances in my past I wish I could have had a second chance. I liked the main characters, Eli and Penelope, and could relate to them both. The tension comes from the fact Eli is in the Air Force and will soon be leaving. It was easy to understand Penelope’s reluctance to rekindle old feelings for a guy who was leaving. The real jewel for me though was Sam, Eli’s friend. Sam is a character you want to know more about, and thankfully readers will get to know Sam if they read the next book in the series. The only drawback to this book was it ended too quickly, but that is a universal novella problem. The writing is lovely, of course. My advice is take a chance on this novella. You will enjoy it.
This was a wonderful introduction to Becky Wade’s new series. Eli is determined to show Penelope how he feels. Penelope learns that she can make plans for her life, but ultimately God is in control. I enjoyed this sweet love story, just wish there’d been more!
What a great novella and an excellent start to the new Misty River series! I am so excited to read Stay With Me, which is the first full length novel of the series. Both of the main characters in Take a Chance on Me were likable. Penelope did have a die hard rule against dating pilots, after seeing her friends with broken hearts over the years. But, it is clear to the reader that Eli is something special and I love the way he goes about showing Penelope that she really should take a chance on a relationship with him. Nicely done.
This novella is a perfect introduction into the Misty River series! The characters are engaging and drew me in almost immediately. Despite the fact that the story is short due to being a novella, I felt like I had plenty of time to become emotionally invested in the story and the characters. I loved the friendship-turned enemies-turned romance theme of the book and was happy with the ending! I also liked the way the author details the struggles of military life on families. And, of course, I love the spiritual truths that are raw and real and incorporated seamlessly into this little novella. Definitely a must read and a great starter to the series!! Most highly recommended! (Also, can we all agree that the cover is swoon-worthy?!)
Love this author. And airfare pilot romance. fun!
Take a Chance on Me is a prequel novella to Becky Wade’s new Misty River series. I’m enamored with Eli and Penelope, and absolutely cannot wait to read book one of the series to hear Sam’s story. Wade knows how to draw me in and make me swoon. I hope to learn more of Eli and Penelope throughout this series, as this book would make a wonderful full length novel.
Take a Chance on Me is a great introduction to Becky Wade’s new series. I was already excited for Stay with Me, but this novella has me even more psyched for it.
Eli and Penelope were likable characters who were easy to root for. Because they knew each other previously, their romance didn’t feel rushed. That isn’t always the case with novellas, so I really appreciated that. This was the perfect length.
I’m really looking forward to visiting Misty River again and checking in with all these characters in Stay with Me.
I loved this introduction into this new series and I can’t wait to read the next. It’s been a few weeks since I read this title. I wish I would’ve wriiten it right away when the details were more fresh. Here’s what I remember: I came away with thinking while this was a novella the story didn’t feel rushed. The story felt complete and another win for Becky Wade. The characters felt real and while I think a few times I was a bit frustrated with the h I could understand the drive behind her decisions. I loved the h & H both. The romance was sweet and endearing.
This was a really cute, fun story. I loved how straightforward Eli was and how he made his feelings clear. I also loved how determined he was to show Penelope that she should give him a chance. It was really refreshing to have a character who was so open about what he wanted and set out to get it–no angsty brooding or anything like that. This was a sweet novella, and I’m looking forward to the full-length Misty River books to come.
4.5 stars.
I very much enjoyed this book. The characters were down to earth and fun. I enjoyed how Eli keep pursuing Penelope even when she kept turning him down. And how she finally decided to give him a chance. I love Becky Wade’s books!
Wow, Becky Wade brings a tantalizing novella to introduce her new series. I loved the characters and the plot. This story definitely points out that we may make a life plan, but God directs our steps. Penelope Quinn is an amazing, young woman who not only bakes delicious pies, but also steps up to care for her new niece when her sister in-law suddenly falls ill. What she doesn’t expect is for her brother to ask “flyboy” Eli Price to also help. Yes, there are sparks, but Penelope has a longstanding rule of not dating airmen. Eli makes it his goal to change Penelope’s mind and take a chance on him. This is a sweet story that’s a great lead in to the author’s new series. It has elements of faith, romance, and a little humor. I would recommend it to anyone.
