So here we meet Kaden and Sawyer. Jamie Begley did surprise me with her writing and her characters. I loved how dark Kaden was and Sawyer was light and bright about life. Even though her childhood was dark, but she was always hoping for freedom and happiness. I loved how Kaden was possessive about Sawyer and Sawyer was submissive. Most definitely will start reading her books soon.
3.5 Stars! Tainted opens the door to and concludes Sawyer’s situation as introduced in Teased. It’s also a bigger step in linking The Last Riders to King.
Summary:
Sawyer has only ever wanted her freedom. For years, she lived with the smothering love and protection of her mom and a life of poverty. Now as an adult and with the help of her friend Vida, her dream is closer than ever. And that’s exactly when her life is forced on a new path. One that could mean the end. Kidnapped, drugged, and sold, she’s forced to trust a man she doesn’t know to save herself and Vida. From the outside looking in, Kaden Cross had it all: money, fame, and women. But he learns in the most hard and painful of ways that what he thought he had was nothing at all. Not when he had lost everything in one night. When he’s forced from seclusion, and thrust back into the world that almost destroyed him, he grits his teeth and moves forward to get what he wants. A sexy, drugged out redhead is the last thing he expects or needs. Especially when he finds that she’s there unwillingly. With his band on the line, Kaden takes responsibility for the unknown woman. When close proximity cultivates a deep passion and explosive chemistry, Kaden understands that he’s on the precipice of finding heaven or falling further into hell. Because, in order to save the woman he’s come to care for, he must deny her the only thing she’s ever truly wanted. Her freedom.
I enjoyed Tainted a lot more than I thought I would. I was so worried about what would happen to Sawyer throughout Vida’s story. I was relieved to see that it wasn’t the worst, not good, but definitely not the absolute hell I was imagining. Sawyer is the oldest of the three girls, and very supportive, loyal, and loving. I liked her bit of fire, but didn’t feel she was able to express it as freely as she should have been able to. Kaden was a bit of a jerk to me, and I never really connected with him. Starting out in his POV, it seemed ok, but as the book progressed I felt we got less from him than we should. His dominance was hot, but a little surprising. I wonder if it was something that came about after losing his family like he did. Once I got used to it, it was okay except for his need for total control over Sawyer. This didn’t read well for me, in the sense that, he got his complete submission, but I didn’t feel she got the freedom she so greatly craved. I also didn’t see the love he thought was so clearly displayed for Sawyer. I think I wanted a lot more adoration on his part after she was so good in giving him what he needed. That said, their sex scenes were hot, hot, hot. I loved the erotica of it. Overall, it was a great introductory book. We learned a lot about King and his past, which sheds some light on a character in The Last Riders. I’m looking forward to reading on in this interweaving series of series. <3
I do love that every moment Sawyer tries to defy him and the small amount of playful moments between them I love.
We have flashbacks of Kaden from when he was in the band before and how swayed he was by the lifestyle at least he was until his entire family died in a plane crash, a plane he was also meant to be on, but choose drugs with his fiancé instead. You could see how much he was swayed by the lifestyle and he refused to let that happen this time and you could really tell how much he was controlling the lifestyle this time around.

The VIP series by Janie Begley just keeps getting better and better. I usually don’t read rock star romances but damn if Begley didn’t write a 5 star book for me surrounding a reformed rock star and a down to earth, kidnapped woman caught up in a war between two evil men. Thank God it wasn’t love at first sight, like within 24 hours of meeting, as some other books have been lately. Their relationship developed while the author provided insights into their background and what made them the people they are. This is a standalone book, but I would recommend reading Teased (Book 1) since the characters are intertwined. I read romance with dom/sub relationships but have found very few that really turn me on. Damn again, if Begley didn’t weave a dom/sub relationship into this book with some of the hottest sex scenes and she didn’t let the heroine lose her total independence while doing it. Now, I will admit Sawyer did push the envelope with me with her continuous failure to realize repeated attempts to escape just caused more problems. But still, it made the story more interesting. I was very ecstatic to see the teaser about Shade/Lilly’s book coming out in June. A big, big teaser telling us where Lilly really came from before she was adopted. I have a feeling the characters in Teased and Tainted will be a big part of Shade/Lilly’s story. I highly recommend Tainted and Teased. Both will be definite read again books for me. I hope the author releases the next book in this series very soon. Is it going to be Shade’s sister Penni’s story and does she hook up with Jackal from the Predators MC from book 1
