#1 New York Times bestselling author Sandra Brown returns with a potent fusion of tantalizing suspense and romance, in a thriller about a reckless pilot caught in a race against time. Rye Mallett, a fearless “freight dog” pilot charged with flying cargo to far-flung locations, is often rough-spoken, usually unshaven, and he never gets the regulation eight hours of shut-eye before a flight; but … hours of shut-eye before a flight; but he does have a rock-solid reputation: he will fly in the foulest weather, day or night, and deliver the goods safely to their destination. So, when Rye is asked to fly into a completely fogbound Northern Georgia town and deliver a mysterious black box to a Dr. Lambert, he doesn’t ask why–he just ups his price.
As Rye’s plane nears the isolated landing strip, more trouble than inclement weather awaits him. He is greeted first by a sabotage attempt that causes him to crash land, and then by Dr. Brynn O’Neal, who claims she was sent for the box in Dr. Lambert’s stead. Despite Rye’s “no-involvement” policy when it comes other people’s problems, he finds himself irresistibly drawn to the intrigue surrounding his cargo…and to the mysterious and attractive Brynn O’Neal.
Soon Rye and Brynn are in a treacherous 48-hour race to deliver the box before time runs out. With the hours slipping by and everyone from law enforcement officials to hired thugs hot on their heels, the two must protect their valuable cargo from those who would kill for it–that is, if they can trust each other.

Listened to the audio book. What I would expect from Sandra Brown.
Is wow
Absolutely engaging! Couldn’t put it down! Looking forward to reading more books by Sandra Brown
Another Sandra Brown success. A loner piolet ends up helping a Dr. try to save a young terminally ill girl. he
The medicine isn’t on the FDA approval list and these two aren’t the only two who want it.
It is quite a ride to find out if good wins out in the end.
I like all books by Sandra Brown, hands down!
What a fantastic book, but then aren’t all of Sandra’s books! This one is no exception. You are either going to love or hate these characters, there are a few you will like. I’m a huge fan of her books! Thanks Sandra for another great read!
Rye is a ‘freight dog’ pilot, a man who must fly because it’s in his blood, with a tough war backstory that has him living on the edge, a reputation for taking the most dangerous deliveries, no matter the weather, and getting the cargo to a timely destination. Brynn is a research doctor, picking up a ‘hot’ delivery that will save someone’s life – and Brynn has an opinion on who should benefit from the cargo. They’re thrown into a life or death situation with people on their trail willing to kill for the prize. The ticking clock is 48 hours, until the cargo becomes worthless. In addition, these two have an unexpected sexual tension with which neither is used to dealing.
Tense, fast-paced suspense, hot sexual tension, and the success of their efforts is all that stands between a little girl and death. High stakes, and all done with Sandra Brown’s phenomenal panache. Great story!!
This is a romantic-suspense novel about “freight dog” Rye Mallet, who is called upon to deliver a time-sensitive package, and a physician who wants the package for herself.
Rye knows this isn’t any ordinary flight or package. He isn’t even allowed to know the contents of the package he is transporting. In addition, the weather conditions are so dismal that most major airports in the area he is flying into are closed. There is one airstrip open, and one controller available.
Rye has flown in worse conditions (bad weather doesn’t bother him) and volunteers anyway. But, he never expects sabotage and a crash to be included under the “worse” conditions category. Nor does he expect to be greeted by a lovely doctor (Brynn O’Neal), who isn’t the actual recipient of the package. And, she isn’t revealing what the package is.
Rye has questions which are put on hold when he, along with Brynn, stumble upon the unconscious controller bringing the local police into the situation. Neither Brynn nor Rye wants to tell the entire truth of their respective situations. Brynn is forced to reveal the contents to the police – blood samples for an experiment.
The police aren’t the only two interested in Rye and Brynn. Two goons, Goliad and Timmy, will stop at nothing to get the box that Brynn is guarding with her life. Rye tries not to get involved, but stays involved for reasons he can’t even understand.
Halfway through the novel, Rye soon learns the truth about the package and why Brynn is so desperate to hold on to it. His “no involvement” policy turns into a race against the clock to get Brynn and her package where she wants to be while avoiding the two goons who are determined to see she is redirected. Rye risks his pilot’s license to see Brynn succeed while trying not to fall completely in love with her.
This book, at 424 pages, is an interesting and intriguing read which takes place over a 48 hour time period. There are a lot of characters to keep up with (at least 7-8 characters), and for some readers it might jump around too much in the action.
The “steamy” sex scenes aren’t until almost three-quarters (¾) of the way in. For some readers they might be too explicit. For those who are looking for more of the steamier stuff – this might be lacking. If you’re not exactly sure if you want to buy it – borrow it from the library, which is what I did. It tends more toward the “suspense” genre than the romance.
Once the plot is revealed at the halfway point, it picks up the pace in getting to the end. I pretty much knew how it was going to end after the half point reveal. There are a few chapters from another character’s perspective (titled only by their name) which adds a sense of urgency as well as compassion to the heart of the story.
It was an interesting read with a “happy as can be, given the situation” ending, which does seem to slide into a rapid finish. It wasn’t a quick read by my standards (2-day or weekend read), but not nearly a long read (7-14 days) either. I was able to read it in about four (4) days which is about 100 pages per day.
Never fails to entertaining have read every book this author has written
That was one hell of a ride. This was my first time reading a book by Sandra Brown and it was thrilling with lots of unexpected moments. Tailspin had the suspense and romance that gets me every time. Rye and Brynn go on a series of events that will give readers a rush.
Rye is a pilot that loves living on the edge. He can fly in any condition and is well-known in the aviation community. Who knew one flight could cause a tailspin?
Brynn is a doctor who needs Rye’s help in order to save a patient. One flight. It was supposed to be easy. Meet Rye, retrieve the box, and save a patient. Things didn’t go as planned.
Rye and Brynn take us on a journey that is mysterious and at times overwhelming. They face numerous obstacles and danger along the way.
For my romance readers, there is a love story between these two. Rye and Brynn are definitely opposites attract. Sometimes dangerous situations force two people who wouldn’t normally get along to suck it up and get along for a bigger picture.
Turns out they have more in common with each other than they think. Their chemistry shines through and continues to climb with each passing chapter.
I give Tailspin 4 stars. It will keep readers on their toes and have readers asking themselves “what is going to happen next?”. This checks off all the boxes that intrigue mystery, thriller, and romance readers.Tailspin Sandra Brown
Relying on an enemy, racing against the clock, trying to determine friend from foe and who is the person they say they are and not the person you fear they are is all here. Do they dare to trust? That is the question that must be answered.
Predictable casual sex as the norm … a down and out rogue bush pilot precariously is thrown into a drama with a hot aspiring doctor, and in less than 48 hours they are in bed amidst a life or death adventure that takes them here and there … predictable casual sex romance novel …
This is what I would call a slow burn, not in a sexual way, but a suspenseful way. A good romantic suspense should keep you waiting for the next shoe to drop while creating some sexual angst with the characters. Sandra Brown definitely did that in this book.
The first half of this book is almost painstakingly slow, however there is just enough mystery to keep the reader looking forward to what will happen next. Once this book hit about the halfway mark, things took off like a rocket. It goes from a slow burn to a high speed chase.
I enjoyed this story and the characters. The combination of mystery and romantic suspense kept me turning the pages. I was in the book right along with the characters. There were many times I thought my heart would pound right out of my chest. And I wanted a happily ever after for all of those who deserved it.
Overall, this book is a good read. Romantic suspense lovers will thoroughly enjoy this read. Those that love a high stakes mystery with a little romance will also enjoy this book.
Wonderful action-packed book!
From the moment Mallet was revealed napping at the FBO with a magazine over his face, I was hooked. Very entertaining book with twists.
This story kept me on the edge of my seat! A new favorite!
Great book
Oh, Sandra Brown, you never disappoint!
There’s a reason Sandra Brown is one of my favorite authors, and Tailspin just cements her more solidly on that list. Another fast-paced ride into suspense (and romance!). Great story – well-researched and believable. I found the aviation aspect very interesting. Terrific characters that will elicit a wide range of emotions from the reader, from “OMG I hate her, she’s a terrible person” to “Aww, I really hope things work out for him.” I enjoyed this one from beginning to end.
As always, Sandra Brown delivers. Great story line, thrills and chills. Next to impossible to put down. Sorry to see it end!
This is a book based upon political intrigue, selfishness, greed and being above the law. The characters are well developed, the plot is well organized and the outcome is not clear till the end of the book. One of the best points of this book is that this is probably what is happening right now with the USA congress and ruling parties in congress. Highly recommend that you read this one during the government shutdown, it is very enlightening.
