Never tell them what we are, Shannon’s grandmother had always said.Working as a faux-Reiki healer in her local veterinary clinic, Shannon uses her psychic abilities to help sick or anxious animals, worried that one day people were going to see past the New Age façade she’d constructed. With good cause.Men from the newly created Capricorn Institute bring her to the newly renovated prison on the … renovated prison on the hill to work her wiles on their beasts, creatures she’d thought she’d only ever seen in a zoo, but they don’t respond to her psychic overtures like a normal animal would.
Because they aren’t.
Beautiful, wild, Shannon’s about to find out the truth about the Big Bad Wolf and all of his apex predator friends. These sexy shifters track her every movement, memorise her scent, because even from behind bars, they’re hunting her. Physically, psychically, these men will use whatever tactics they can to get what they want: her.
THERE IS AN EXTENSIVE TRIGGER WARNING INSIDE THE START OF THE BOOK. PLEASE MAKE SURE TO READ IT.
This is book one in a brand new super steamy series from the author of the Pack Heat series. If you love hot shifter romance, you’ll love Tail ‘Em. Some MM

I don’t do spoilers or story recaps, read the blurb guys – that’s why the author wrote one. Then use the reviews to see what others think.
So firstly. Full disclosure. Sam Hall is one of my all time favourite authors – I found this amazing author by pure chance and have been addicted since. I go into every book full of expectations of love, humour and fabulously filthy sex. Sam NEVER fails to meet those expectations. It borders on irksome that she gets it so right every time!
Tail ‘Em. Once again Sam brings us a plethora of characters that instantly worm their way into our hearts and heads. Her ability to bring absolute vulnerability to all MCs in her books borders on painful for me, and Tail ‘Em is no different. She splits them wide open for our scrutiny, all their insecurities there on the surface for us to fall in to. This will always surprise me, is that because we live in a society where our men are brainwashed into showing no emotional weakness? I guess that’s a whole other debate on male mental health, and why the western world has such a frightening level of male suicide.
The MMC’s will be in your head and your heart, but none more so than Jai. I hate spoilers in all forms, so don’t want to talk about Jai and Shannon. Truly I don’t. But, they are everything for me in this story. Everything. He and their shared past are what Shannon’s psyche hinges on.
The darker side of Sams stories can easily be overlooked, readers caught up in the romance and the intoxicating sex. This storyline is tough to read, because we know we live in a pretty crappy world with some pretty crappy fellow humans. Where greed, arrogance, wealth and a good old megalomaniac in charge can enable too many to override the most basic levels of decency. Read the trigger warnings at the start of the book, because while I would never categorise Sams books as dark, there are elements that are going to make you uncomfortable- and they should – because some humans are a***holes.
Through Shannons gift and compassion we see just how base the instincts of some humans can be, and that’s not easy to read. But we also see all that’s beautiful. Sams FC’s are strong, resilient, unwavering, they always hold the true power. Shannon can and will do what’s needed, even if that’s against every fibre of her being, and at a cost to all. We are shown the best and worse of humanity, and Shannon is our eyes.
What I hate about Sams books is what I love, and what will keep me reading and re-reading them endlessly. And it’s why you should read her too. I felt emotionally bruised after I finished reading – hell, it’s taken me three days to start this review. My heart hurts, I swear physically as well as emotionally. The twists and turns of the story are as always, unrivalled. The sex, while maybe not quite as prolific as some of her books, is DAMNED hot and steamy. The last line will always go to our collection of main characters, they are what makes a Sam Hall book. Beautifully written, utterly laid bare to us, and every one of them deserving of absolute love and compassion.
This book is like nothing I’ve every read. I was wowed at every twist and turn and I’m in love with this unique world! This is a PRN , RH and Shifter world but it can’t be compared to anything written. Sam Hall has once again thought outside the box and created something amazing and new. I absolutely love the MC, Shan’s, connection to animals and this is what initially drew me in. Shan is a vulnerable but tough MC and her men are all so different and have so much depth. This story draws you right in and you won’t be able to put it down. I felt such a range of emotions reading this and it pulls you in. There are some triggers and if you have any please read the trigger warning. There is a little cliff hanger but I honestly loved the ending and I can’t wait to dive into the second book.
Oh My F‘n G!!! Wow! I am full of different emotions as I finish book 1 in Sam Hall’s Jailbreak series! First, this is an RH (always awesome) and it does have a cliff hanger. But this is expected in these series, so expect it and move on!!
These characters have depth and are put through so much!! The shifters’ pain in this series is heart breaking, but you root for them all. Except for the Elders in my opinion. I cried, hoped, prayed, cheered, hurt, and more for these characters. You just love them for their raw and earthy strength and instincts. I just can’t put into words how much I enjoyed this book.
Truly, the connection you end up feeling with the main characters in this book is powerful. I can’t wait for book two and am so very happy that I found Sam Hall. She is amazing! She is raw and authentic and you are able to feel everything that she puts into her books.
OMG – A must read!! Get it now!!!
P.S. Be prepared to have very strong feelings about all of the characters in this book. I have never despised characters as much as I have a few in this book. You will understand why once you read it. And kudos Sam – you did awesome with this one too.
Tail ‘Em, a start to my Sam Hall read-a-thon
This was my first book EVER by Sam Hall and I’m so glad I was on the ARC team and read this!
The characters are so vividly written and have real flaws and shortcomings like all of us do. It truly made each character’s journey within the story so relatable and encouraging.
I loved Shan (FMC) because she does what is needed without backing down or cowering under pressure. The MCs are strong, emotive and there is a sense of brotherhood for all they have already endured.
A truly gripping story of banding together in horrific situations to overcome and emerge victorious ::evil cackling:: for now .
Loved the ending, the cliffhanger, and the lead-in for book 2. Can’t wait to read what our motley crew gets up to next.
Off to download the whole backlist of Sam Hall’s work
You know those stories that suck you in and don’t want to let go? You know the ones I mean. They seem to be like a spell that gets cast on your brain and your heart as you read the words and before you know it, you’re all in. Lost down the rabbit hole. Yes…those stories. They’re few and far between. But so help me, Sam Hall is one hell of a spell caster because Tail ‘Em is spellbindingly good!
This is definitely not the typical paranormal, shifter, RH story I was expecting. I mean, it seemed to be going that way and then … boom. Sam Hall hit me with some major plot twists and suddenly this story takes an epic, unexpected turn. In all honesty, I should have expected it. Sam’s a super talented writer and her imagination…all these stories … but I digress.
Shannon has lived in the shadows most of her life, trying to make herself invisible, hiding her powers and shying away from connections. With one foot in the world of supernatural shifters and one foot in the world of humans, she lives somewhere outside both, being something else, something more. Her one attempt at love failed miserably and left her heartbroken and longing for a man she can’t have. But then everything changes.
I love Shannon. She’s such a strong, powerful female. I love how she carries herself and how she owns her power. And the guys? Oh my. Jai is her soulmate. I can feel this in my bones. I’m in love with this character and my heart broke at the end of this book. The rest of the guys are great too. Zane and Caleb are amazing. Kazamir and Nero have such a great bond. And my heart breaks for Gaden.
So, I’d be remiss not to mention the trigger warning at the beginning of this book. Heed the warning and know what you can handle. There are horrible things that happen. Some we see, some we hear about. But we feel them all. For me, they created a rage against those that hurt Shannon and the others. And I am just itching for the retribution that I hope is coming in the rest of this series.
If you choose to embark on this journey, and I highly recommend you do, be ready for a well-written, steamy, and emotional ride like no other!
Sam Hall has done it again. Another amazing start to a series with a great world, great characters and great story line! Love how strong Shan is, she’s been told her whole life to keep her emotional distance from people and run if they get too close, but as we learn, she’s a fighter not a rabbit. She is brave and does so much for others, even without their knowledge. There are certainly some super hot times in this book as you’d expect, and a shocking semi-cliffhanger. That shouldn’t stop you though. You need to read this book!
This book was amazing!! It was everything I did not even know I needed. Completely original story that draws you in and never lets go. I was completely hooked from the beginning. I can’t wait to see where this story goes next. This is a ABSOLUTE must read!
Holy crapola! Wow! What a book! I swear Sam’s writing gets better with each book, somehow, and I’ve been hooked from the start. This book- wow. Be awarethat it’s hard to put down- fast paced and full on action. I absolutely loved it. Cannot wait for #2. Hopefully sooner over later…
Fantastic book, Shannon is a strong MC with a special ability. Her normal life is thrown into chaos after starting a new job at the same time finally starting a relationship with her childhood crush.
I don’t want to give away any spoilers and it’s so so hard.
There are so many amazing twists and turns, the suspense had me on the edge of my seat, I couldn’t put the book down until the very last word.
It’s extremely well written, with lots of steamy scenes and hot shifter men. It really tugged at me, the heartache and sadness in parts – I honestly had tears, it was really touching.
I look forward to the next book to see what happens with Shannon and her guys.
Um I do not know where to start with this book except that this is twisted and amazing. I have to say the depth of the characters are intense and mind boggling. I mean I get where Shannon is coming from with her feelings and all but there has to be a time where you can just move on. Hey let’s face the fact that Jai had to really work on getting her back. OH BOY was it hot. However, once you really get into the story then there is a change up and oh boy does it get hectic. Also, don’t forget about the mystery of what is going on. Oh and the betrayals and hurt is excruciating. I mean there are so many things that happens and you will be wanting to read the next chapter until you get to the end. That ending is insane and I really hope the wait is not long for book two.
I have to say, Sam Hall really knows how to write a good book, the story goes smoothly, the transitions between scenes, and crucial parts of character development, their choices, and paths… just jaw dropping!
The story had twists, great and tragic world building, epic love stories, and the characters so real. It’s a heart breaking, sensory/scene overload, and a world that could be completely happening in modern day.
It does leave on a cliff hanger, but my goodness for the sake of my psyche and emotions. It’s needed.
Oh my word! This was so freaking amazing. Sam Hall is seriously one of the most descriptive writers I have ever read. I was so immersed in this story that now I feel so broken and exposed after that ending. I loved everything about this book. I think Shan is so relatable as a woman who has wanted something she can’t have. I want to learn more about the guys as individuals not just what they have been through together. The heat is this book is fire! I cannot wait to read more!
Wow this book was intense. It like nothing I’ve read before. The characters and world building were great. The ending wrecked me. There are some potential triggering moments make sure to read the first page before diving in the author gives you a heads up on which chapters you may want to avoid. They are not graphic and do not go into detail. Enjoy this ride because I can’t wait to read more.
This book is absolutely amazing. I loved it! I have loved all of Sam Hall’s books, but I’m thinking this one is my new favorite. It has a very unique and intriguing storyline and some really fantastic characters. I highly recommend this one and cannot wait for the next book in this amazing new series.
Not your average shifter story. Great beginning to an epic story. Mixture of shifters and plenty of … ahem … to move the story along… looking forward to more in this series. Well done!
This new PNR came at me out of the blue and knocked me off my feet. I can’t remember the last time I fell so quickly in love with all the members of a harem and that’s saying something. They’re all unique and intriguing. Shannon is an interesting FMC. She’s unlike any that I’ve seen before in RH. She has a gift with animals, which she’s only ever wanted to do good with despite the wariness of some factions within the story. Her first love, Jai, is bound and determined to be there with her every step of the way when they find themselves wrapped up in a scheme with the most despicable villain I’ve seen yet in Hollingsworth. So something is afoot in this town. Here’s hoping that the drama with Hollingsworth can be ‘resolved’ because the trapped shifters are counting on someone else helping for a way out of this hell on earth. Although Shannon herself may be just the woman for the job. She’s not the same person she was at the start of this story. When backed into a corner, she’s not outmaneuvered and waiting to be rescued by a pack like a damsel in distress, she’s going to come for you guns blazing…
what a read!! … great pace and that ending! … super excited to get the next
A great new read with dark themes from this brilliant author. The world building and characters have great depth that you as the reader get to experience. This was a definite page-turner.
This is my first time reading a book by Sam Hall and I have to say I’m impressed. As you know shifters are on of those paranormal creatures it seems everyone is writing about nowadays. However, Sam Hall still managed to suck me into her world as well as become immersed with her characters. The book was different enough from others that it didn’t feel redundant while reading and had unexpected events keeping you on the end of your seat.
The only con I had while reading was that once Shannon and Jai get captured by the Capricorn Institute I found myself loosing a little bit of my focus and struggling to pay attention. I also got a little confused with the events towards about the last 20% of the book and needed to reread it over again. Now onto the pros, she keeps it just enough on that side of different in order to capture your intention (even though my drifted). I also found her sexy scenes to be AMAZING!! Seriously, I haven’t read a lot of books like hers and really enjoyed the creative take she took. The thing that ensnared my attention was her ability to bring my emotions to the surface and keep them there. I felt that I was experiencing exactly what the characters were going through and couldn’t help but get invested in their story.
All in all, the writing is simply fantastic and I urged you to take a chance on it. I hope you get lost in Shannon’s story as much as I did.
Once again Sam has created an intense, beautifully-written and unique story with characters that will give you all of the feels, good and bad. I generally have very few triggers when reading but this book definitely has a dark underpinning that had me angry and squirming in my seat. You can’t help but be drawn so deeply into the story that you feel like you are a part of it. It will make you laugh, cry, get angry, feel confused, and leave you wanting more. When you’ve finished reading you’ll need time to process, then you’ll want to pick it right back up again to see what you might have missed.
