From the author of the groundbreaking series, A Prairie Heritage, comes the compelling story of fiery-haired, fiery-tempered Tabitha Hale. Rescued from a life of depravity, Tabitha gives her heart to God and her life to nursing.
As this tenacious, redeemed woman perseveres toward the vocation God has placed on her life, her temper and stubborn independence threaten to derail her selfless … derail her selfless aspirations. Will Tabitha pass the trial by fire that is necessary for God to truly use her?
And what is Tabitha to do with her feelings for Mason Carpenter, the man who simply refuses to give up on her? Is it even possible for God to ordain a shared future for two such different people, both with fervent callings upon their hearts?
When the Great War erupts in Europe, Carpenter leaves for England to train British pilots to fly reconnaissance missions over Belgium and France. Soon after, Tabitha hears God asking her to nurse the war wounded. However, because America has not joined in the fight, Tabitha has few options. Will the elite British Nursing Service make a place for her? Will they accept the services of an American volunteer? And will Tabitha and Mason overcome the differences that stand between them?

Tabitha is a Christian novel about a woman who overcame her past as a slave and prostitute, to become a devoted follower of Christ. In the process, she uses her own history to help others be overcomers. This book could be inspiring for anyone who feels that that God cannot forgive or use them because of their sins or past, and for anyone who doesn’t believe they can build a new life.
This interesting historical fiction was a good listen. The narrator, Sybil Johnson, did a nice job with the different characters through the years in which the story takes place. The gripping storyline provides a powerful picture as themes of redemption, forgiveness, and following God’s direction emerge. I appreciated that faith journeys and struggles were included and realistically portrayed. For example, the main character’s prayer life was such a natural and integral part of her life. This was my first introduction to Vikki Kestell but I am interested in reading or listening to more of her stories. I was given a copy of this audiobook by the author. All opinions are my own.
Vikki Kestell is a new favorite author! Loving her books!
Loved this book and can not wait to read more about the books that go before this one. Enlightening to see how one’s life can be changed by the actions of others and making a better life as a result of determination and hard work. Could not put this book down and I’m still thinking about it.
When I first began reading I almost didn’t continue because the story sounded boring. Yet due to the wonderful reviews I continued and I am glad I read it all.
This is a incredible story and one that surely could have happened. Tabitha was a wayward wilful young girl who wanted her own way. Yet all she suffered strengthen her to be the wonderful person she became.
God uses such as her, turns them around calms their spirit, gifts them to help others, and finally gives the best reward. A great story of pain, perseverance and courage.
Great Book; except the ending was a bit abrupt.
It was a good reminder how God can change a persons heart from evil to do good to others and forgive those who hurt you deeply.
The nurse in me loved the story line! Good story based on what could have happened in this time setting!
Loved the character in this book. Such spiritual lessons. Had all the things to keep u involved & keep reading. Such down to earth life lessons. Highly recommend.
I really enjoyed this book. Vicki Kestell is a good writer.
Great story of redemption and God’s grace. Set before and during World War I, characters are vivid, real and lovable.
A step back in time, period piece that showed wonderful Christian values.
I really enjoyed this book.
Wonderful book; spellbinding, hard to put down. Sorry the book ended, so I’m starting to read the beginning of the story in the series about Rose.
This book was truly one of the most unique I’ve read in a long time. Set before and through WWI it follows the story of a woman who goes through great hardships before she finds her life saved and redeemed by Christ. When war breaks out in Europe and the man she is falling in love with leaves to help, she finds herself soon called overseas by God as well. Throughout the whole book you see how one thing in her life prepares her for another as God’s plan unfolds and she makes a huge difference in hundreds of lives. It is truly inspirational and well written.
Well written historical novel that was a great story of victory over terrible treatment by horrible people. Tabitha not only survived, she grew into an admirable, self-sacrificing person committed to Christ. As a nurse myself, I was so interested in descriptions of nursing during the days of the 1st world war and before. Learning about the 1st world war was also very interesting to me. I really enjoyed this book
I have read all the Prairie series by the author, loved them but wasn’t sure it this one would meet my expectations after loving all the others. It did not disappoint. Sadness, war, hope, steadfastness and love wins.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I laughed, I cried, I was inspired!! I was thankful for those how have gone before to create the peace I live in today! I love this author!
This is an inspirational story full of realistic facts, told in a page-turning manner.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Thank you for such faithful writing!!!
I really give the book a 5 star rating
