Sue Grafton ups the ante for private investigator Kinsey Millhone like never before in this “taut, terrifying, transfixing” #1 New York Times bestselling mystery in the Alphabet series.Kinsey Millhone’s elderly neighbor, Gus Vronsky, may have been the original inspiration for the term “Grumpy Gus.” A miser and a hoarder, Gus is so crotchety that after he takes a bad fall, his only living relative … bad fall, his only living relative is anxious to find someone to take care of him and get back home as soon as she can.
To help, Kinsey runs a check on the applicant, Solana Rojas. Social security, driver’s license, nursing certification: It all checks out. And it sounds like she did a good job for her former employers. So Kinsey gives her the thumbs-up, figuring Gus will be the ideal assignment for this diligent, experienced caregiver.
And the real Solana Rojas was indeed an excellent caregiver. But the woman who has stolen her identity is not, and for her, Gus will be the ideal victim…
“The best and strongest book in the series…Solana is one of the most evil, calculating characters Grafton has created.”—USA Today

Took a long time to get to the plot. Slow read.
I always enjoy Sue Grafton books. I will miss her
Kinsey Milhone is like an old friend.
Another excellent mystery!
I love all the Sue Grafton books
Thoroughly enjoy the author’s mature work –
I like that it was like visiting people that you know, that you have a history. Wish it could go on with new adventures so will read until the end of the series.
Excellent Grafton mystery
Sue Grafton books are always enjoyable to read.
Excellent book. A must read for anyone who has an aging parent especially if your parent is disabled or had dementia. I have friends who have told me horror stories about caregivers so the description of this book intrigued me. A real page turner, and I learned a lot about being extra careful when seeking assistance for my elderly mother.
Brilliant descriptions of things we overlook, Gripping, but grisly violence offputting
I love all her books. Although they take place in a fictional town, it’s familiar to many of us. The main character is a strong, damaged but likeable, independent woman, and there is a continuing cast of quirky characters. I get very drawn into the plot. They are disturbing but not bloody. Highly recommended.
I thought it was another great book in Sue Grafton’s Kinsey Milhone’s alphabet series, Sue is going to be greatly missed.
Kinsey is always fun to follow
Could not put it down.
Sue Grafton was a grate writer, and she will be greatly missed.
Love this series by Sue Grafton.
The alphabet series by Sue Grafton is one of the best series available. While some may not like the detail in describing scenes and people, I find it helpful to visualize the plot and feel like I am in the scene.
Thought provoking.
Kinsey Millhone untangles some legal issues and finds out that’e really going on in Sue Grafton’s “T” of her alphabet series. The setting is basically California low-life, with small-scale grifters, cheats, and thieves. Good to see Kinsey keep after what she knows is right.
