Sue Grafton ups the ante for private investigator Kinsey Millhone like never before in this “taut, terrifying, transfixing” #1 New York Times bestselling mystery in the Alphabet series.Kinsey Millhone’s elderly neighbor, Gus Vronsky, may have been the original inspiration for the term “Grumpy Gus.” A miser and a hoarder, Gus is so crotchety that after he takes a bad fall, his only living relative … bad fall, his only living relative is anxious to find someone to take care of him and get back home as soon as she can.
To help, Kinsey runs a check on the applicant, Solana Rojas. Social security, driver’s license, nursing certification: It all checks out. And it sounds like she did a good job for her former employers. So Kinsey gives her the thumbs-up, figuring Gus will be the ideal assignment for this diligent, experienced caregiver.
And the real Solana Rojas was indeed an excellent caregiver. But the woman who has stolen her identity is not, and for her, Gus will be the ideal victim…
“The best and strongest book in the series…Solana is one of the most evil, calculating characters Grafton has created.”—USA Today

Sue Grafton writes another great thriller and keeps you guessing right to the end.
enjoyed reading through the series A-Y
Really enjoyed!
I’ve read almost all of the alphabet series. This was one of my favorites. The story was so original and the characters were so compelling and scary that it was hard to put down at times. I hope you offer more of the last books in the series. GREAT READ.
great author. Too bad she never finished the alphabet
Descriptive writing. Good mystery
Love the character. Kinsey gets into more trouble but always comes out in the end.
She always writes good books
If you haven’t read this “alphabet series” you are missing a fun, intriguing story. Us fans are sadly never going past at “Y” is for Yesterday” due to the untimely death of author Sue Grafton (RIP)
The always satisfying Kinsey Milhone is witty, sarcastic, and clever yet again.
I always love her- have read just about every book of hers. And, I’ll miss her.
I highly recommend Sue Grafton’s alphabet series – read every book from A to Y! (the alphabet ends at Y for Grafton fans)

I love all the alphabet mysteries & was looking forward to ‘Z’. Sadly, it won’t be written.
The book was fun to read. I miss Sue Grafton.
What can I say? Everything Sue Grafton wrote was very good. I wish she had lived to finish Z.
