Audiobook version: A PNR so wildly original it blew my mind!
5 stars overall, 5 stars story, 5 stars narration
If you are looking for a wildly original, dark paranormal romance, this is the audiobook for you! The author threw out the normal conventions of romance novel format and created something new and different. The plot twists were brilliant! I am highly impressed, and I plan to listen to the rest of the 5-book series. I listened to the short prequel “Impostors’ Kiss” first before this novel, and I think that is the best reading order. I haven’t listened to a lot of dark PNR, but anyone who loved Kresley Cole’s “Lothaire” (like I did) would love this audiobook.
This 10.5-hour audiobook has the intensity of Kresley Cole’s “Immortals After Dark” series and the exciting action of “Highlander” (the 90s TV show or the 80s movie). It also could be classified as romantic suspense and urban fantasy (because the heroine-focused story continues in the next book, “Between the Waters”). Although there is a strong M/F romance, a minor element of reverse harem appears. Beware: the enemies-to-lovers trope is taken to the extreme, with the guy acting like an alpha-hole douchebag toward the heroine for quite a while. Cyril is not your usual paranormal person. Let’s just say that he is an immortal with very unusual abilities and an amazing origin story. It seems like the author was partly inspired by the immortals in “Highlander” (the awesome 90s TV series), of which I heartily approve. There is a bunch of steamy sexual tension and content, but it does not seem excessive, except for some dirty talk (see below).
I love the heroine Linden Hill, and I loved how her crazy story was told. Cyril is a character that you love to hate and then you sometimes like. The only thing that got on my nerves a bit was the excessive amount of Cyril’s talking about sex, his attempted seduction by graphic words. I am sure that lots of other readers would love it, though.
The duet narration is exquisite. These two narrators, Erin deWard and Noah Michael Levine, brought the story to life perfectly. They totally deserved their Audie Award in 2016 for this audiobook! Erin deWard did the general narration, Linden’s parts, and all other female speaking parts. Noah did Cyril’s words and all other male speaking parts. Noah has such a deep, sexy voice for Cyril, and he even does heavy breathing, moans, and laughter! It is enough to curl a listener’s toes. Both of the narrators’ voices are like beautiful music to my ears.

Symphony of Light Book One.
When two of the most important men from Linden Hill’s past show up after she witnessed their deaths, she is confused and angry. Cyril was her first love and Michael was her husband. Both died in her arms. Now they’re back, but neither remembers their time with her. After staying with Cyril and his men, Linden finds out that Cyril and Michael are old, immortal enemies. However, when one of Michael’s lieutenants offers to trade Linden or Cyril for her missing colleague, Linden knows she must protect Cyril at all costs.
If you’re looking for a paranormal story with creatures that only slightly resemble classic monsters, this is the book for you!

Cyril and Linden are connected in many ways. Linden had visions that she seen Ceyril before, but her husband told her she was always seeing things. before he died! Why did Cyril need to meet her? Has he always kept track of her? What is the supernatural bond they have? How did Michael come back from the dead? Did he have supernatural powers too? How did all this tie in and concern her? whats going to happen next?
Renea Mason tells a wonderful story full of mystery, paranormal, sex, truth, lies. Can’t wait to listen to the next book! Noah Michael Levine and Erin Deward are excellent narrators literally bringing this story to life with such emotion. Their interpretation and narration is one if the best I have listened to . audiobookobsessionreview
