more
This box set is a good introduction to the world, but the first few books do more to set up the scene and characters than advance a plot. It wasn’t until the last book of the box set that the author finally set the direction of the story only to split the heroes up on the end of the last battle, without any foreshadowing of why or how this might advance a story.
The teaser scene at the end of the book for the next chapter in the story takes off on a bender somewhere else in the world with different problems and culture completely from the world that was presented in the stories just read. I went from looking forward to the next book to kind of luke warm to the whole thing. It is an interesting, well written scene, but it lacks any tie-in with the stories presented.
I will probably read the rest of the series at some point, but it isn’t at the top of my reading list at the moment.
Great characters. Sad to see it end
Great characters and a strong plot. A book you cannot put down and cannot wait to get back to when you do have to do other things.
The first book wasn’t so bad, the second book was absolutely bizarre, and the third book was a mystical fever dream. I skimmed through books two and three just to see if a plot had emerged and the author had discovered cohesion. No such luck. Yes, overall, three comrades -Theron, Kendrick, and Aldous – are battling evil gods and monsters as well as righting a world torn apart by various religious factions. But don’t expect the writing or ideas to make sense.
Bloody poorly built
Easy to put down.
First chapter of a long, long, long serial with more confusion and misdirection than you can imagine. I only finished it so I could write this review.
Sadly, after the first three chapters I could not get into this series. I didn’t like the characters and didn’t care to find out what happened to them. I rarely do not finish a book I start. This just didn’t do it for me.
Aldous, Ken, and Theron, unexpected partners, together stronger than the sum of the three. Each made better by being with and working together.
I would not recommend this book. Kept waiting/hoping it would get better. It did NOT.
I enjoy fantasy but some of this was hard to read due to descriptions of killings. I’m nit into gore!
One of the best i have read of the genre. Characters are developed before their actions and others are presented in action then introduced. Don’t believe young readers will enjoy as the story shifts from character to location to action etc.
Definately not a boring read.
Didn’t care for the language used in it. There should be a way to warn readers of unacceptable language.
I did not read this book. Too much filthy language
the 1st book was OK. they went downhill from there.
For me it was too gruesome to read more than a dozen pages or so.
This book was well thought out had great characters and although very graphic stayed true to his character and used graphics and relationships to further the plot. I found it hard to put down. However at the end the author did not tie up enough strings, left one character In dire peril with no indication that there will be a follow up book. Just did not wrap up the story well.
Great writing. Pulled me in instantly.
