All Patrick Flint wants is a peaceful … last!” — Merry, Amazon reader
All Patrick Flint wants is a peaceful getaway in the Wyoming mountains for his rare days off. He’s grown weary of the bicentennial celebrations, the angry families of patients, the rash of campers coming down from the mountains high on speed, and the midnight call-outs to cover for the town veterinarian. When his wife Susanne balks at the trip just as they’re walking out the door—leaving him to go it alone with his lovestruck teenage daughter Trish and eager-but-adolescent son Perry—Patrick is wounded but determined, despite the news of a murderer escaping custody on the other side of the mountains.
After two days of rain-soaked horseback riding to hunt and fish, Patrick’s gotten nothing but weird encounters, wet socks, and a whiny daughter. So, on the third day, when Trish begs to stay behind at their campsite to read, Patrick is secretly relieved.
Meanwhile back in town, Susanne’s had a rough time of it herself. A break-in, a wreck, and a premonition that something is terribly wrong with her family. Unable to ignore her growing fears, she enlists the help of a Wyoming-tough neighbor, and the two women make for the mountains.
When Patrick and Perry return to camp, Trish has vanished, along with the horses, the truck, and the trailer. Clues point in opposite directions. Did she run off with the boy whose note Patrick found at the camp? Or was she taken—as the hoof marks over their destroyed tent suggest? Whichever it was, the tracks lead into the mountains, not out of them. With help too far away to make it before Trish’s trail is washed away, Patrick and Perry embark on a desperate trek into the wilderness to find her, with Susanne not far behind them.

I could not put this book down. This is a must read and if this is the first book you read of Pamela Hutchins you will be hooked for life!
This book had it all. Suspense, humor, excitement. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
You’ll be turning pages until you finish this book. A family camping trip.. what could possibly go wrong.
A lot can and does go wrong. Edge of your seat suspense, and no desire to put the book down to sleep.
Well worth the read and the 5 stars!
Switchback is a story about a camping trip that goes wrong with twists and turns that makes us read the book in one go. You just have to finish it in order to learn whether the good guys win ! Beautiful descriptions that make you “see” people and places without being boring. Great start of a new series.
I received a copy in advance as a member of Pamela´s ARC team.
A truly magnificent story that takes you back in time. The setting is the 1970’s in Wyoming. Patrick is a doctor who also fills in for the vet and treats animals. It is first and foremost a dramatic mystery. It also tells the story of family love and loyalty. As the doc embarks on a family hunting trip with the family, everything that can go wrong does. The writer shows the enormous strength of the characters as they fight to survive for each. Follow as three different scenes converge into one happy climax.

it was amazing
I read Switchback in one fell swoop. I could not put it down. The scenario had me tense from the end of the first chapter and kept me up with nervous energy through to the end. The vivid descriptions of people and scenery were so real and I fell in love with the portrayal of the different characters at their best in spite of all their human flaws. The time frame of the book made me realize
once again how different life was before all our modern crutches. I read Ms. PFH’s “Maggie” series one right after the other and am disappointed to find I must wait for the next “Patrick ” book.
Give this one a read…. you will not regret it.
