What a refreshing twist. Instead of rags to riches the main character goes from riches to rags. I enjoyed “meeting” such well rounded characters. Robyn Carr always manages to pull you into the story and make it seem so real.
Jennifer Chaise has risen from an insecure, poor background to live what might be considered the high life. She is the mistress of a rich business man who showers her with gifts, jewels, car and condo. It is a dream come true until she walks into their suite and sees her boyfriend’s wife on their bed littered with blood spatter. She turns around and walks out to recreate herself and disappear. In Boulder City, she starts over as a waitress and soon becomes involved in the lives of her small town neighbors. Louise, a retired professor, takes her under her wing and soon Jennifer realizes that she does not miss her old life and that the real Jennifer is beginning to emerge. Is next door neighbor and cop Alex a threat or her hero?
I loved this book. It kept me up at night reading and picking it up first thing in the morning. It took turns I didn’t see coming and had a few interesting historical and regional information.
I enjoy this book it was light and it did have some angst but not a heartwrenching one so it is great for a summer read.
the characters were great, the story takes you to different places from glamour to a very beautiful small town that welcomes Jennifer like she never expected. she thought her new life was going to be hard especially since she needs to hide low after so many strange things happened to put her life in danger.
I love the way Robyn takes us in this amazing journey, I didn’t expect how this book was going to turn but I love it, every scenario and character made this book way more intriguing.
Alex’s character at first was a mystery but with time we get to meet him and his wonderful heart.
The only part that I had a little trouble with, was when Alex was really mad, I thought Jennifer was going to make him work harder for her forgiveness, the things he said were not light on the heart and I felt like she forgives him too soon, other than that it was great.
Jennifer had it all – she had a nice condo, jewelry, vacations, and side investments with the money she earned. When Nick, her current boyfriend, takes her to Vegas for a gambling trip, she is surprised when his wife shows up. Jennifer almost walked in on a blow up of major proportions but later, when she returns, she thinks she sees the wife dead. Jennifer runs and finds comfort and a job in Boulder City, Nevada. She befriends many and finds that she likes her new life and the new man. She is helping a teenager deal with a rough life and helping a friend house sitting.e When Nick shows up again, things go south. With the help of Alex (a cop and her current boyfriend), and his partner, they track Jennifer down and do what they need to bring her home. A great read that has some suspense and romance. Love Robyn Carr’s writing – she never disappoints.
