Confusion is the key word for this novel. Worlds are rocked into confusion when a father’s will is read and the contents are not what all parties thought it would read. It forces Gavin to face Macy and reckon the past with the future.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Man leaves surprises in his will. Son who was supposed to get house was disappointed when it was left to a singer, an old school friend. All turned out well when the son and singer fell in love to claim house together.
An entertaining story. I will read more of this series.
Great!
A sweet and thoughtful romance with compelling characters and an engaging premise. Didn’t really like book 2, but want to read 3.
This is first in a series regarding 3 sons whose father has promised them each a portion of his estate… and then the will gives the promised things to 3 women. First in series is Gavin’s story. He was supposed to get the family home. Instead it goes to a former high school girlfriend who became a country music duo star, whose girl partner has died in a car accident. He’s the town Vet. The story deals with how they have gotten to where they are; the resentments and issues they have had; how they overcome them. There is one very long sex scene that did not engage me, so I skipped most of it. Several times the story touches on the other 2 brothers.
Upset by the death of his father Gavin and his brothers were surprised when the will was read. They were told by their Dad that they would each get something they wanted. Gavin would get the house, Grayson would get the company and Gage would get this piece of land that his Dad had bought years ago.
When the will was read none of the boys were left what they were expecting. Macy got the house, not Gavin. Charlotte got the property not Gage and Becca got the company not Grayson. The men were upset about it. In this book Gavin is living in the house because he moved in when his Dad got so sick that he needed someone to take care of him.
Now the house belongs to Macy who is a big Country singer and she comes home to check out the house. She doesn’t know that Gavin lives in it.
A really cute book that I think you will enjoy. I know I did.
This series opens with a funeral and reading of the will. Oh good heavens these brothers are in for the shocks of there rich little lives. In this the first book of the Sweet Texas series we get to meet the oldest brother Galvin and discovered that he did not get the house he was promised when his father passed away. In fact it went to his high school rival. Why? He can’t figure out and yes there is more to this story …so much more. I can’t wait for the other two brothers stories and why their father did the things he did.
Sweet Texas Kiss by Monica Tillery is book number one in the Sweet Texas Secrets series. This is Gavin Cooper and Macy Young’s story.
Gavin and Macy were in competition with each other in high school. Plus they each had a crush on each other but just didn’t showed it. Life took them on different paths. Now they have been forced to deal with one another and discover that despite their conflicts there is an attraction and chemistry they are having trouble ignoring. Will they find a way to overcome their conflicts and find true love?
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This was a curious read for me. There were parts I loved and parts that had me reduced to skimming. Parts that I loved the characters, and others that had me extremely annoyed with them. One of the great things about this book was the storyline. I love the concept of three guys not getting what they felt was their birthright. Not just because they are spoiled or privileged, but because their father always said they would be getting these things. In fact, all three brothers seem pretty down to earth and nice. But they’re blindsided by the reading of their father’s will when it’s nothing like what they had been told their whole lives.
The story of these brothers plays out in three separate books, this is the first of those stories. Gavin had been expecting to receive the family home, instead its willed to an old high school rival. Macy is now a huge country music star and hasn’t been back to their hometown in years. So Gavin is not the only one who is confused when she is left the Cooper family house in the will.
I did feel some chemistry between Macy and Gavin at first. The reader is aware that Gavin had a crush on Macy back in high school, but the character is not aware of this. But these two have a lot of bad blood between them due to their mutual best friend’s death. At first, I thought this would be a great addition to the story. Yet I kept waiting and waiting to find out why Gavin had so much animosity toward Macy over the death. I never got an answer that satisfied me. From what I can tell, this otherwise wonderful man was holding more than one petty grudge against Macy. Everything I was learning about Gavin showed me that he was a fantastic human being. It just didn’t add up for me.
Then, I felt as though I was being told that Macy wasn’t a caring and warm person. Yet her actions were not aligning with what I was being told. Sure, she made mistakes in her life and had some guilt that hung over her head like a storm cloud. It wasn’t those things that made me feel I was supposed to find her cold. It was Macy’s own thoughts about how she had lived her life even up to when her friend died.
Sometimes I felt as though these characters were virtual strangers, with only their best friend and the fact that they went to the same school tying them together. Other times, it seemed as if Macy and Gavin grew up hanging out on a regular basis. Very confusing.
That being said, I still enjoyed this story and am curious what will happen with the other brothers. Their stories aren’t only in separate books, but they’re also written by different authors. I’m intrigued as to how the other authors will handle their stories.
**I received an ARC of this book courtesy of the publisher. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and given freely**
I received this arc from Tule Publishing in exchange for an honest review. This is the first book in a 3 book series with each written by a different author. Book one introduces us to the 3 Cooper brothers. Their father recently died and the book opens with them at the will reading. Each brother learned that their long promised thing from their father was not in the will.
Book one focuses on Gavin. He is the town veterinarian. He moved into the family home to care for his dad and was expecting he would to given it in the will. Instead his nemesis was given it, Macy Young. They were close when younger because they shared the same best friend Tori. Macy beat him out to be valedictorian and then she didn’t go to college. She and Tori took a singing contract and moved to Nashville. Gavin always had had a crush on Macy. Tori, Macy’s singing partner, asked him to forget it so there wouldn’t be a problem if they didn’t work out.
Macy has struggled for years and hasn’t been able to sing. Tori had ended up dying in a car accident when she was driving while intoxicated. Gavin blamed Macy for her death. Macy is on a television show where she mentors potential singers. She is on break and returns to her home town to see the house she’s been gifted.
Gavin remains in his home and Macy arrives surprising him. They both end up staying in the house and Gavin is at first rude to her. He then realizes he’d have a better chance of being able to buy the house back if he treats her nicely. The two maintain a tense relationship at first but then they spend evenings together and talk over dinner. They start to recognize there’s chemistry and romantic feelings. Both have baggage and things to work through. The reader is kept in suspense wondering what they will end up choosing in the end.
This was a wonderful book. The series sounds pretty great too. I am anxious to read book 2 to find out what will happen to the other brothers with respect to the promised items from the will and the other 2 women named in the will. This was my first book by Monica Tillery but I plan to look for more.
Sweet Texas Kiss is the first book I remember reading written by Monica Tillery. What a attention grabbing beginning with the surprise will reading. It was as unexpected for me as it was for the sons of the late father who had been so close to this offspring in life. It is as if he has some divine insight that no one else could understand or value.
This first book in the series concerning Gavin Cooper, the small town vet who loses his home in the will reading of his late father. I thought it strange that the author made him so unforgiving and unbending in the beginning of the book. However, as the story continued it was evident that this was not his typical behavior. How true in life that each of us can find a little Gavin within ourselves being inflexible in one area or towards one person. The person in question, Macy Young inherits a house but brings to it plenty of her own personal baggage, guilt and what-ifs.
By the end of the book, not only had Macy and Gavin grown emotionally with insight into the past, others and themselves they also dared to take a chance. Plus, I had grown to love and appreciate both of these characters. On the lighter side, the cat and dog were lovable from the get-go. The last two lines of the book are such a wonderful big idea, so I was gratified to have read to the very end. Now that is a something to ponder.
4.5 Stars
An ARC of the book was given to me by Tule Publishing which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is the first book in a set of three books by different authors all about the Cooper boys and the shock they receive when at the reading of their father’s will they discover that the one thing that they really wanted from his estate has been gifted to a woman
In this book we get the general outline of the situation and then we go on to Macy Young and Gavin Cooper’s story. They where schoolyard sweethearts but Macy left to become a country singing sensation but when her best friend Tori is killed in a car accident it sends her spiralling into a downward trend. When she discovers she has inherited the old home on the Cooper ranch she hopes that retreating there will give her the peace she is looking for What she actually finds is Gavin The attraction between them is still there but they will both have to lay the past to Rest if they are to have a future together Will the plans that his father set in motion actually work to bring these two back together.
I really enjoyed reading Gage and Macy’s storyline surrounding the loss of their loved ones and how they came together to console each other .I honestly didn’t want this one to end.I look forward to reading the rest of the Sweet Texas Secrets series.

This is Macy Young and Gavin Cooper’s story.
There is a stipulation in the will that Ms. Young may not sell the home for twelve months. She doesn’t necessarily have to reside in the house, but she can’t unload it just yet.”
“Surely she’s not planning on moving here. She lives and works in Nashville, and having the house sit vacant for a year is a horrible idea. There’s got to be something you can do to fix this.”
“I’m afraid there’s not. It’s a done deal, and all completely legal. I wish I could be more helpful.”
Gavin Cooper paced the length of the airless office, the old wooden floors creaking beneath his feet, and blew out a frustrated breath. Everything about his father’s death had been drawn out: the illness, the funeral arrangements, even the removal of his hospital bed and equipment from the home. He and his two younger brothers already knew what was in the will, so why the big production now? What he wouldn’t give to, for once, be able to sign a paper without a meeting. But that was reality when your father, Jack Cooper, left behind a hugely successful guacamole company, an incredible legacy of generosity and innovation, and a giant hole in your heart.

Shrinking against the leather of his chair, Rodney said, “He left it to Macy Young. I’m sorry, Gavin. I know you guys are all surprised and angry.”

Sweet Texas Kiss is the first book in a three book series. In this series, the Cooper Brothers will find their happily ever afters. After his death, the patriarch of the family ends up leaving his sons the surprise and shock of their lives. Apparently each brother was promised a specific area of the family holdings and at the reading of the will this was not the case. In fact, it was quite a betrayal for the Cooper sons. Apparently Mr. Cooper left his sons’ inheritances to three random women. What was he thinking? Fortunately, Mr. Cooper had a plan put in motion before he died. You will have to read the series to find out what that was.
This book is Gavin and Macy’s story. This is where I admit that I did not have a connection with either of these two characters. I really did not believe their romance. For the most part, and throughout most of the book, Gavin and Macy were not friends. And this was all due to Gavin and the many grudges he held onto regarding Macy. Thankfully the last several chapters of the book were better able to engage me. And while I came to understand both main characters, I still wasn’t a fan of Gavin. When it came down to it, he was very immature. Thankfully, as the story unfolds, Gavin is finally able to put the past behind him and admit, he was wrong in some aspects of his assumptions where Macy is concerned.
Now, regarding the author’s writing, this book had potential to be a five star read for me if it weren’t for my lack of connection and dislike for Gavin. However, the writing flowed well, and the author did paint the characters and town so that I could imagine what it was like to be in Sweet Ridge, Texas. Each one of the books in this series are written by a different author and I am looking forward to see how the remaining two Cooper brothers find their happily-ever-after.
This was my first book by this author. And while this book wasn’t one of my favorites, I was still able to enjoy it, by the time I turned the last page.
This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. 🙂
The one thing Gavin Cooper had hoped for, after his father passed away, was the family home. At the will reading, Gavin finds out the house was left to someone else, Macy Young, a former classmate, Gavin’s old crush, who had moved to Nashville to be a country singer. Now Gavin needs to find a way to get Macy to sell the house back to him so future Coopers can grow up there. But Jack Cooper just might have had a plan of his own when he wrote out his will. Maybe he knew Gavin and Macy would be good together and they just needed a little budge to see the love that was right there all along.
This is the perfect start to a new romance series and I can’t wait to read about the other Cooper brothers.
