Lewis and Christopher – A Happily Ever after in everyday life!
When I first started reading Sweet Temperaments, I thought the author was leading me down an altogether different path. The characteristics MC, Christopher, displayed reminded me very much of someone on the spectrum. It wasn’t because of his social awkwardness, but the fact that it seemed he kept missing social cues altogether. He didn’t come across as someone angry or anything, just someone hard-wired differently. That language I speak because I have a son with Asperger’s, so for a while, that was where my mind went.
After a major bump between the two MCs, where Lewis questioned the crush he had with Christopher, the source of some of Christopher’s awkward and eccentric ways were made clear. After Christopher’s confession, and a brief freak-out moment, on Lewis’ part, he began researching all he could so he had all the current facts, regarding Christopher. One thing was certain about Lewis, he was not someone to let fear and ignorance of the truth keep him from a friendship that could very possibly be something more.
I loved that the author created the character of Lewis in such a way as to compel the reader with facts while at the same time using Lewis’ emotions to push a sensitive subject forward. As the reader experiences the story from Lewis’ POV, one gets what it is like to fall in love with someone who has closed themselves off from everyone except for those going through the same things they are.
As time passes Christopher and Lewis grow in their relationship. They live life as any couple does with the one exception being, Christopher’s lifestyle, in regards to eating healthy, taking meds, and simply taking care of himself. That lifestyle is quite regimented, but being alive to live and love Lewis was worth it, to him.
The story touched my heart as it glided through the passage of time. As it does with us all, the sands in the hourglass seem to fall faster the older we get. This story isn’t a long one, and once the two men decide, they have had enough yo-yoing with each other’s hearts, the last third of the story flies. The author could have stretched out their lives another 300 pages but managed to tell us in under two the same loving story of how important it is to not miss out on forever because of ignorance, pride, or just plain old fear, as both these men learned. They might have never learned just how stunning kilts could really be otherwise, and they may have also missed out on the chance of being both fathers and grandfathers. Life can be both kind and gentle, even after being dealt sh*tty hands.

When I have picked the book to read. I was expecting a funny and steamy read. But, the book is much more. It is well written with great characters and plot. It is the background story and reality that creates realty in the story. It is about love…. Yes. But, also much more. It is just read book for everyone who looks more than fluff and sex in their reads.

Sweet Temperaments starts off as a witty and fun office romance, with Lewis pining after Christopher. I’ll admit I wasn’t sure about Christopher in the beginning. He comes across as a bit standoffish, but that is soon explained, and the story takes a more serious tone. That’s not to say that the wit and humor are all gone, far from it. But, we do have some serious subject matter, and I have to say that the author handled it wonderfully. From Lewis’ initial shock to how this pair works it all out, it’s done very well. Along with that serious topic, we have some will they or won’t they, and the romance is touch and go for a while. The story is a quick read, coming in at around two hours or so read time, so it’s easily finished in one sitting. I will say that for a novella-length story, the romance is quite the slow burn. By the end of the book, I was completely sold on this couple, and the whole thing comes together for some warm and fuzzy feels. There is some steamy fun, and it’s sexy without being too explicit. All in all, this romance is equal parts sweet and emotional with some great wit and a bit of sexy. It hits on a topic that is prevalent without being preachy and reminds us that education is key while still keeping things lighthearted.
Nice setting and plot. I liked the character build up also loved the romantic angst and what leads to it. Enjoyed this lite read.
I love this story. The build up of the two heroes finally just becoming friends was amazing. Growing with them through the indifference, the friendship, the romance, the big tell then becoming parents and growing older was lovely. I’m new to this author and I’d like to say I’m very impressed. This story reeled me in. It touched me and made me feel quite strongly for the characters, both main and supporting. The story was impressive and very well told. The topics were real and handled very well. This was a job very well done.
