For … twenty-six years they have met on Tuesdays at four o¿clock, watching the seasons change and their children grow up, supporting each other in good times and in bad. With their ambitions as different as their personalities, these best friends anticipate many more years of tea time. I thought I would love this book as soon as I read the description and it did not let me down. I truly enjoyed the friendship of these three women and I was with each of them as they went through individual difficulties and issues of infidelity. I enjoyed the fact that the women were all in their mid 50’s and had a background of life experience. The book is set in Charleston, SC and it captures the setting beautifully. Sweet Tea Tuesdays is a quick read but you will find yourself longing for more after you have turned the last page.
Every week for twenty-six years, sweet tea has kept Lula, Midge and Georgia as close as sisters … until one crisis after another bring their friendship to a breaking point. How they weather the storms is both heartbreaking and heartwarming by turns. *tissue alert*
A heartwarming read about family relationships and the friends we choose to hold dear. Highly recommended.
Learning to love through heart aches
A story about, Lula, Midge and Georgia, three friends who would meet on Tuesdays for some lively conversation and a glass of sweet tea…
These neighbours have been meeting for 26 years discussing everything under the sun and watching their families and helping each other out…until one fateful day that they have a falling out…
But tragedy strikes and with it the three women realize that they need each other…
Will they regain the friendship that they had before the falling out…
You will have to read the book to find out…
Highly recommend
I LOVED this book…but then so far I have loved everything Ashley has written. There is something about the characters and how they remind me of friends and family and the situations they get themselves in to at different times.
I will have to admit that I didn’t realize that 2 of the characters were from her Sweeney Sister’s books. I don’t know why it wasn’t obvious to me other than I read a lot and it is a busy time of the year for me. However, we don’t see any of the Sweeney family pop into this book which I think is good because it might take away from Lula, Midge and Georgia’s story.
These three women bonded together over drinking sweet tea on Tuesday afternoons for most of their adult lives. They saw each other through thick and thin and it reminded me of the friendships I have with several women and while we might bond over a different drink, the sisterhood and friendship is still there just like for these 3 women. They realize that life is not eternal and while they may not always agree with the choices that each makes, being a true friend means supporting them no matter what happens.
We also see how their friendship affects their families. Every family has their own skeletons but these women stuck by each other through thick and thin. Sure they had disagreements and perhaps a falling out, but when it came down to needing support they were there.
This story touches the heart in many different ways and will inspire you to find friendships as dear as what they women have in their own lives.
Great book. So much like normal life as it is. I recommend this book. Hated to see it end.
Loved the characters, good summer read.
I loved this book it was down to earth
It showed how friends can go their separate ways but come back together
It was a fast read. Not much character development to the point of feeling attached to any of them.
Easy read. Enjoyed every minute of it.
This book touched closed to home for me. While the book started slow and the characters were underdeveloped, I enjoyed the book.
Once again, Ashley Farley has tackled two delicate subjects with grace, understanding, and tact. The title of the book comes from a habit of three southern neighbors. What started as an almost daily routine when they started gradually evolved into a weekly Tuesday meeting on Georgia’s front porch. While the author included two characters from her wildly popular Sweeney Sisters series (Annie and Heidi), we meet three new women. Georgia is married to a surgeon, Midge is a young divorcee, and Lula is a young mother happily married to Phillip raising two daughters. We meet Lizbet first. Later, Brooke will return home from California with news that sends Lula into her bedroom. Meanwhile Midge happens to see something that will change Georgia’s world. The author handles a terminal health diagnosis with dignity and compassion. The other issue handled with grace and tact is that of same sex attraction. Now that I have met Midge, Georgia, and Lula, I can only hope that there will be a series following these women. We learn about friendship, life crises, and family relationships in another wonderful book by Ashley Farley.
Loved this book. It was an easy read but very moving. The characters seemed so real.love her books
Like true life but southern friends help each other through the hard parts!
I loved this story.
It will have you laughing, crying and also screaming mad at times.
A wonderful group of ladies who get together every week to sit, share and chat. Life moves on ,
and things change, and the gatherings end for awhile.
This novel is a reminder that:
“Time is precious and we must hold on to those we cherish.”
A must read for all!

Listen to me, honey. Marriage is a journey filled with peaks and valleys and tidal waves. If you’re having problems now, tying the knot will only make them worse down the road.
It’s like you have a split personality or something. I don’t understand how you can be so considerate and attentive one minute and such a jackass the next.
Blame it on the cancer. It’s eating away the stubborn and selfish part of my brain that makes me act like a shrew.
My Review:
Sweet Tea Tuesdays was a bit close to home for me; I had a sense of déjà vu as several threads in the storyline felt as if Ms. Farley had been hidden behind a wall and secretly collecting data from my childhood. The similarities were rather eerie; although her characters were actually far more considerate and better behaved than the people I share genetic material with. Three vastly different women had forged a friendship while living in neighboring homes for over twenty-six years. Their bond allowed them to overlook each other’s quirks and weaknesses, and revel in their strengths instead. While one was extremely conventional to the point of being an obnoxious bigot and an arrogant and difficult diva, her friends were somehow able to still see her good heart and otherwise kind nature. The women had supported and nurtured each other through child-rearing, infertility, infidelity, divorce, and empty nest syndrome, yet the latest developments were the worst tragedies of all and strained their bond to the point of snapping. For the first time in all those years, the Tuesday Teas were abandoned. The plot was relevant and entertaining, and Ms. Farley’s writing, as always, was poignant, insightful, and emotive. Her descriptive writing easily placed me right along with them as they drank tea, chatted, argued, struggled, and lashed out at each other. I felt the heat of the summer, smelled the flowers in their garden, cringed and felt annoyance at their insensitivities and narrow-mindedness, smiled at their humor, and remained steadfastly engaged in their story throughout, although I was periodically holding my breath for each one of them in turn.
My first Ashley Farley book, but definitely not my last! Farley has a gift for bringing characters to life and make you believe everything they’re feeling. Therefore, making you feel all the emotions these wonderful characters are going through. Sweet Tea Tuesdays is from multiple POV’s by friends who have gone through life’s ups and downs over the last 25+ years. But, nothing could prepare them for the struggles coming down the road. Beautifully written book regarding overcoming loss, new love and the true value of friendship.
Loved reading about these women….i felt like I had really met them. Lulu a character is funny even at her worst, Midge is determined and smart and Georgia is the down to earth mother figure. They always meet for sweet tea on Tuesday until life interferes…..dating, loneliness, grown children, expectations and death.
Some might consider this book sad but it was realistic and central to the story.
At times, I rooted for Lizbet, the good daughter of Lulu and just hated the idea of Brooke, the prodigal daughter returning home. Then I met Brooke and grew to like her.
Then I worried about Midge and her gentleman when rumors of bad behavior come up. And Lulu lives in deep denial about her two daughters and finds out some news that’ll send her to bed. Georgia is excited about getting a job as her husband, the surgeon, is never home….hmm.
Pour some tea, grab some crackers and curl up in your favorite chair and enjoy these women….I miss them!
