I can’t believe I’m only up to book 4 in this series. I love the characters although I almost wish that Verity would get a new sidekick sometimes. Frankie can grate on a girl’s nerves a bit. I’m ready for the next one though!
Sweet Tea and Spirits is book 5 in the Southern Ghost Hunter Series. Verity Long’s humorous and action packed adventures continue as her ghost hunting business grows. With sidekick Frankie, her beau deputy Ellis Wydell and her pet skunk Lucy there is never a dull moment. Though each book can be a standalone it’s more enjoyable following from begining of series. Angie Fox does a phenomenal job of building storyline and characters from one book to the next. From murder to mayhem to an Angie Fox happy ending. A must read.
I can’t put my finger on exactly what draws me back to the Southern Ghost Hunter mystery series more than many others series, but I anxiously await each new release. The best part of the series is the character interaction between Verity and just about anyone. Ellis is awesome, Frankie is hilarious, Lily is a darling and Ellis’s mother, Victoria Wydell is a vengeful snob’s snob, but Verity is starting to learn how to handle her. There is enough wit and humor to balance the tense moments and those that go beyond tense to down right scary. I am not a person who enjoys being afraid but the balance makes it work, and I can hold on the to fact that this series is pretty much cozy paranormal. so while people may be murdered, no one is going to get me, I mean Verity.
I enjoy watching Verity slowly rebuild her life after some pretty drastic changes. She is a strong person and one of solid standards; she just has the ability to communicate with a ghost who can help her see the “other plane”. Sometimes, I think she over reacts to Frankie, the gangster ghost, but I suspect that living with him would not be easy.
While the problem that she is hired to fix is serious to the members of the local historical society, I am with Verity in finding the positioning of mannequins dressed as local historical heroes hilarious. A phone call from the dead, an cemetery rendezvous, and a secret that will stir the community more than the death of a member of the society lead Verity, Frankie, and Ellis into a world of evil, misunderstanding, and the forgotten.
I requested and received an advanced readers’ copy of Sweet Tea and Spirits. The review represents my honest opinion. I always review books that I love.
I enjoyed this book as I have the whole series so far. Verity Verity gets a call to investigate the strange things happening in the historical society. When a body turns up, a whole story unravels that is unexpected.
I love these characters, they are diverse in characteristics but all tie in nicely together. I always get a few laughs when reading this series and this book was no different. The mystery was interesting and kept me turning the pages to find out what would happen next and comes to a satisfying conclusion.
I will definitely continue on with this series.

Come for the socially inept ghosts and stay for the twisty murder sleuthing and a pet skunk named Lucy! Verity Long interacts with ghosts with the grudging help of the ghost of a long dead gangster she inadvertently acquired. This time it’s a paying gig but the client winds up dead shortly thereafter. Some scary stuff, lots of twists, some romance, angst, and the horrid nemesis. I loved it!
I wasn’t as happy with narrator Tavia Gilbert this time as the dramatic presentation seemed a little more pronounced this time.
Solving murders with the assistance of a ghost.
Another ghostly case with my favorite Southern gal and her gangster ghost associate snooping around at the old historical museum trying to solve a murder, a ghost problem, and their separate relationship issues. Let me just get my hot cuppa and cozy into my favorite comfy spot.
Sweet Tea and Spirits is the fifth installment of the Southern Ghost Hunter series. They can be read standalone, but work best in order to follow the relationships and situations that are ongoing with the series.
The first scene had my right back in the world of this series. The humor displayed through Frankie’s antics, as even in the afterlife, he’s just doing what a gangster will do, and Verity’s sweet southern gal persona appalled at her resident ghost and more appalled that her boyfriend Ellis wants her to do a meet the family because they are getting serious.
But then things are off to the races when Verity gets another case from the president of the historical society shortly before the lady is murdered and only Verity knows its murder because she gets a ghostly prompt that tells her.
I enjoy this blend of light-hearted and mystery with some moderate chills and humorous moments. By now, Verity is hitting her stride accepting her role as ghost hunter in the community even though some folks think she’s nuts, but also moving on from the fiasco of leaving her cheating ex at the altar and dealing with the aftermath since he’s from one of the most influential and prestigious family’s in town- and hsst, Verity is not in a deepening relationship with his older brother.
Now, the tone of the book may be light, but the mysteries are actually rather clever. Some elements are easy to figure out, but then there’s the twist and the surprise is fun. In this case, I had the murder figured out, but it was the ghostly situation that had the impressive twist. Very clever…
And I did enjoy that ghostly Frankie got a bit of romancing in with a pretty ghost.
All in all, these are fun, light distractions and I look forward to each new installment. Cozy Mystery fans who don’t mind some paranormal and romance are probably the best match for this series.
An easy to read book that is great for passing time in an airport
