Ellis lost her parents, and her uncle has stolen her inheritance. Now she has to find a way to care for herself and her sister. With limited options, she decides to become a mail-order bride to a widower (Cyrus) with two sons.
The move to the west is a difficult transition for both her and her sister. Her sister is very resistant and Ellis has a different idea of parenting from Cyrus.
I enjoyed how the author dug through the experiences of each character to show how they could rise above their challenges. It’s such a “sweet” story about keeping a sweet heart that is open to others’ point of view.

Sweet Spouse seems a bit different regarding the relationship of the bride and the groom than some of the previous installments of the Carson Valley series. Love is not immediately felt between the two but the attraction is there. The relationship between Ellis and Cyrus can mimic real life relationships that with issues to work through. This book is a quick read that can be read in about an hour.
