The pastor did what?!?! And who killed him? After retiring from being a famous investigative reporter, Mary took a leap of faith and followed her dreams of opening a sweets shop in the small town of Brooks, Georgia. What she didn’t plan on was bringing Tripp, her less than thrilled fourteen-year-old grandson with her. Soon after their arrival, things start happening fast. First, Tripp gets … happening fast. First, Tripp gets attacked by a cat named Sweet Feet. Then the town reveals some of it’s deep, dark secrets, and, to Mary’s surprise, Preston, a local police officer, asks her out on a date.
But, halfway through their date, they get interrupted…by a murder. And it wasn’t just any murder…it was the beloved local pastor.
Turns out Mary and Preston make quite the detective duo. Even Tripp gets in on the detective work. But now he’s in danger.
Who would want revenge on the local pastor? And will Mary be able to get to Tripp before he becomes the next victim?
And how does Mary get that rainbow cake to taste so darn good?

I thoroughly enjoyed Sweet Revenge, the first of the Sweet Shop mysteries. The characters are well written and personable. The small town ambiance is great. In fact I am ready to make a trip to Brooks, GA and try that rainbow cake! The plot has numerous twists and many suspects. I did not figure it out which is always a plus. I highly recommend this book.
Very nice cozy mystery. Looking forward to reading more of this series
The book is pretty good. It’s great not to have to worry about bad language and sexual things. It was pretty wonderful that the Bible was included. There were some minor editing goofs, you might want to correct the Bible goof, though. Saul didn’t appear until several generations after Joshua. Saul story is in 1 Samuel. Hope I helped. I do love knowing the Bible. Now it’s time for me to get off my pedestal. I really liked the book.
The author needs to get a good copy editor. At one point, the action is taking place on Friday, but then there is discussion about school the next day. She also has football games at the jv level taking place after the fall semester.
Wonderful story with wonderful, real characters. I can’t wait to read the next one!
Interesting characters but it needs a better editor. The mystery was ok.
The constant use of the word “smirking “ or it’s variations was distracting. I will give the second book in the series a chance, hopefully with improved editing
It was a fast read. I could not put it down.
A very good story
This book, Sweet Revenge, is a wonderful realistic book about a teenage boy and his grandmother. It is a story about the relationship as it develops after he has been forced to come and live with her. It also involves his ability to enjoy friendship with a handicapped girl in his new neighborhood. The mystery is also interesting. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a cozy read.
Good story, fun to read, keeps your interest and not too long.
Really like this series
Loved the whole series. More?
Hope she keeps writing! Really interesting story!,
I love this author! I read one book after another, which is not typical for me. After the first book I usually lose interested…not with this author! Highly recommend!
I hope she doesn’t stop with book 4!
Great Author. Will look for more of her books.
Light reading which I like sometimes.
Too easy to pick on the clergy these days.
This was a fun book to read – very light and entertaining. The characters were interesting and tugged at your heart – a widow, a single mom, a grandmother raising a teenage grandson she hardly knows. So, you see there is lots to this book.
So enjoyed this page turner couldn’t put it down
This was a delightful story wrapped in a murder. I really connected with the characters.
Started out slow, wasn’t sure I would finish it but kept going. It improved some and ended well
