Rhett SullivanMysterious boy painted in shades of red.Nova MarkovEccentric girl dripping in sunshine. He was the type mothers warned their little girls about—a cocky, rich asshole with a pretty smile, unapologetically insane and wild.I was the type guys like him usually ignored—a free spirit who hid my crazy beneath an odd good girl facade and the art hanging on my studio walls. We were opposites … art hanging on my studio walls.
We were opposites in every way but one, and we collided like two runaway trains that never had a chance of stopping.
What blossomed between us, our ‘relationship,’ was maniacal. We got stuck in a cycle of madness.
Rhett Sullivan became a bittersweet poison I couldn’t get enough of.
In the end, that’s what destroyed me.
Because in the end?
Our love was nothing but a lie.

This book has been my most anticipated read of 2019 and I can honestly say I absolutely loved it ! Natalie Bennett is one of my favorite authors and I have loved everything she has written and this was no different !
Nova and Rhett’s story is a dark twisted emotional fast paced story and I can’t wait to find out what happens with these two ! Their chemistry is off the charts hot and steamy and I just know where in for one hell of a ride with them !
Another 5 delicious dark stars ! And holy shit Rhett and Callum can I just say they are fucking Hot AF !! So excited for this new New Adult romance series written by Natalie Bennett’s dark mind !!!
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced complimentary copy of this book
I tell you there’s just something to be said about Natalie’s writing….she has this ability to grab you and hold you spell bound with her freaking twist’s and turn’s that make you crave and need more.
I’ve been waiting to get this book in my needy hand’s and boy oh boy she did not disappoint. No spoilers, but if you’ve read her book’s you’ll want to read this lil jewel it’s definitely a must read. This is the 1st book and I can’t wait to see what happen’s in the next one.
Natalie Bennett has done it again. Every book I read by her has me so enthralled that I can’t seem to put it down. I have to pay attention to the time when I start her books because I end up staying up way too late unable to stop. Her writing is brilliant. She has a beautiful mind that conjures up this fascinating characters and worlds with the perfect amount of twisted, darkness and steam.
Nova and Rhett are the epitome of darkness in disguise. They each have hidden secrets and dark occurrences. They are perfect for each other at the same time as being toxic for each other. They both maintain facades for others but they can see through each other’s.
Their story sucked me in. I wanted to know their secrets. I want to know what they’re each hiding and what happens to them when those things come to light. Nova tries to shit people out and stay home alone. Rhett is one person she fights with herself about trusting or running from. They’re dangerous together.
This is a duet with the second book already available. So not all answers are revealed with this book and it does end on a cliffhanger. I just downloaded the second book and am going to dive in.
Part 1
“ℕ ’ . ’ , .”
Nova & Rhett. Whew. What a messed up flame that burns between them.
Nova is a good girl, on the surface, but something runs underneath, although I’m not quite sure yet.
And then there’s Rhett. New to town, only staying awhile, claiming Nova as his own. There’s way more than what he shows on the surface, something dark underneath. His job is… something.
The insight to his brain was unlike anything else. I didn’t feel like it gave me a lot about him, but at the same time, it gave me more than I realized.
I can’t wait to find out what’s going on in this town.
“Rhett Sullivan. Mysterious boy dripping in shades of red. The color of blood and love. War and passion. Dangerous and cunning.
Nova Markov. Eccentric girl dripping in sunshine. I was yellow. Full of melancholy. Venomous. Crazy. Insane.
And the only thing left to determine, what I couldn’t see, is what happened when you mixed those two colors together.”
Surprise. Surprise. Another five star read from Natalie. I am starting to get fed up with this. Every time I think I have found my top favorite book from her, here she comes again. Bringing her shit.
And I secretly love her for it. Shhhh
I am in absolute love with the two main characters of this book. Nova, the odd introvert girl who uses a canvas to express her real feelings. Her mother and father dead, only having two close friends she shares most of her life with. Underneath her good girl exterior hides a side no one sees. I must say, I kind of feel insulted by this. I did not give permission for my biography to be told. Minus the rich, arrogant boy, sadly.
Enter the rich, arrogant boy. Rhett.
He’s the type of a guy a girl like Nova should stay away from. But we all know how that goes. Show me a man, tatted, pierced, and built like Rhett, and all my decency disappears. The allure of the bad boy. We all know it. Don’t you bitches lie. Even though Rhett doesn’t hide his arrogance and his bad boy ways, he also has an even more dangerous side. Some hands can’t be washed clean.
The town became a little more red when he and his crew came into town. And Nova is just one of many in his sights.
Ugh. These novellas reeling me in like this. The secret masochist in me is enjoying this type of torture. I cannot wait for this story to continue. That ending….
What a tease…
This author feeds my dark needs like no other author has before. I am IN LOVE WITH HER WRITING. I love Nova and Rhett. So so so much! My heart hurts knowing I am done. This was just SO AMAZING. I CANNOT PUT INTO WORDS. Natalie Bennett is quickly becoming my favorite author ever. 5 star author.
Natalie Bennett’s books are some of my favorite arcs to receive. This book was no exception I started it and couldn’t put it down. It was a very enjoyable read.
Nova is the towns good girl. Sweet, innocent, and pretty anti social. All she wants to do is stay home have a drink or more, paint and sometimes hangout with her two best friends (as long as its home). Nova’s life has already taken a turn when this book starts off. She thinks her life is spiraling, she has questions but no one to give her the answers she needs, and shes not really sure she should have the answers.
Then she meets him.. Rhett and she knows he’s not good for her mental state, but her friends want to party and she doesn’t want to hold them back like she usually does.
Rhett isn’t who he says he is, but honestly neither is anyone else.
Sweet Poisons is my first book by Natalie Bennett but it definitely won’t be my last.

”All I’d done was replace one bad habit with another, and he was the worst of the two.”
I seem to have a slight problem where the more fucked up, the more possessive and asshole-y the hero is in a book, the more I want him. And Natalie Bennett just gave me that in spades with Rhett.
”He was a drug. One I blindly consumed without checking the side-effects. I couldn’t stop now that I’d gotten a hit.”
Both he Nova are majorly fucked up, dark and twisted and have flaws for days. What had me hooked on this book though was the mystery and suspense. Not knowing what was going to happen next had me inhaling the book.
That cliffy though… I am not ok!!
If you like dark, twisted, suspenseful books with LOTS of triggers then this is the book for you!
I Give this Book a 4 out of 5 Star Rating
Cliffhanger(?): Yes!
Dark: 3.5/5 (to some it may be darker lol)
Romance: 2/5 (this is a Duet after all, the relationship is still growing)
Drama: 3.5/5
Suspense: 5/5
Heat: 3.5-4ish/5
I am looking forward to reading Sick Remedies, so many unanswered questions in this book and I believe Nova is more than she appears to be, I can’t wait to find out!
I had a little issue with the time passing, I felt that Nova & Rhett’s moments were a tad rushed.
I’m completely recommending this book if your a Dark Reader.
Of course I will be reading more from Natalie! 😀
When I started reading Sweet Poisons, I didn’t know how dark this book would get. I have read a lot of dark romances, and I have been unimpressed by 90% of them. So, for Sweet Poisons to impress me, it would have to start with a bang. And it did.
I couldn’t figure out exactly what made Nova crazy. She came across as this quiet, artsy chick. Not crazy. So, I was perplexed about that. Then I got into the book. Nova’s brand of crazy is internal, and she expresses it through her paintings. I am waiting to see, though, if she is as bad as Rhett.
I didn’t know what feelings I should have towards Rhett. I knew from the very beginning of the book that he wasn’t in Nova’s life by accident. I thought he was a stalker. I was not expecting what was revealed about him. That made my jaw drop.
There is a lot of violence in Sweet Poisons. I wasn’t taken aback by it. Considering how dark the book was up to that point, I was expecting it. The author didn’t hold any punches with the violence either. Some scenes might trigger people (the home invasion one is a huge one).
The sex scenes in Sweet Poisons were dark but hot. Rhett dominated Nova. I mean, he went bareback with her, knowing that she wasn’t on birth control. The only thing that bothered me was the anal sex scene. I hurt for Nova.
I was a little confused about why Rhett was so interested in Nova. Like I mentioned above, I thought he was a stalker. When it was revealed that her father had something his father wanted, my mouth dropped. I can’t wait to see where that storyline goes.
The end of Sweet Poisons was insane. Nothing got answered; instead, there were more questions asked. And the cliffhanger. I wanted to pull my hair out!!
This was a tease of things to come. Bloody things! Moody storytelling with the all the trademarks of this fabulous author. Such intrigue and mystery and brutality. The lush Nova is not what she seems with a mystery surrounding her family and using booze to deal. Then she meets the new guy in town, the uber alpha and supremely sexy Rhett. He hijacks her life and they sizzle! He’s a beast with a tie to Nova. This is a story full of beautiful people with a dark side that peeks out and teases of things to come in the next installment. Killer ending with an OMG standoff. Bring on the Sick! Loved it!
Oh hell yeah! Get ready to be taken on one hell of a ride. Nova and Rhett are hot as Their chemistry is undeniably intense. This book may contain dark scenes for some. That cliffhanger ending is just Wow!! I need more!!
This is a quick and dirty dark NA read. It is full speed ahead, the whole way through. It’s a lot of build-up and tons of questions with plenty of dirty, questionable behavior and a little bit of mysterious back-story. These are not good people. These are not apologetic characters. I’m anxious for the second half so I can see these piles of secrets revealed and see what color Nova + Rhett makes!
There’s something amazing about a book like Sweet Poisons that drew me in to its deliciously dark and twisted web and held me spellbound until the last page where I was left wanting to scream in frustration. I loved how this enthralling story kept me constantly wondering what was truly going on behind the scenes. Rhett and Nova were beyond explosive together so much so that I was shocked my fingers didn’t burn from flipping the pages on my Kindle. Intense, riveting and just my kind of twisted read Sweet Poisons left me craving more and excited to see what secrets will come to light in Sick Remedies.
I really didn’t want to rate the book so low, because I love this author’s flare for the dark and mysterious, and this story had it in spades, but it cut too short to really hook the readers in.
Both main characters had their darkness that clashed and complimented eachother, and there were moments where their actions made me question my own sanity and why I love her writing so much. But again, I would prefer the story at its entirety and I’m dying to find out what happens next.
It took a little while to get into this one for me but it was totally worth it by the end! Rhett was hot and I can’t wait to see what these to bring in the next book!
DREAMY’S REVIEW
Sweet Poisons by Natalie Bennett is my first ever book by this author and I’m wondering where in the world have I been!?!? How have I not read this author?!?! I surely was missing out because this dark and twisted read was everything I could ask for and more!
Dark romance are my jam, my guilty pleasure, and one of my favorite type of books to read! I love how dark romance keeps me on my toes and Sweet Poisons kept my turning the pages! Bennett weaves a beautiful and dark tale of pure fucked-upness in the best way possible!
Nova Markov is the definition of a bad-ass heroine who is quite and keeps to herself. After living a quite and isolated life, a tattooed bad boy comes into her life like a wrecking ball and turning it upside down!
“Alcohol could be bad for you, but Rhett Sullivan was a different type of poison.”
Rhett Sullivan is the most perfect mysterious enigma, anti-hero/hero, and bad boy with the tattoos! He has this energy about him that is unexplainable, an edge about him that you want to explore, and a mystery about him that you want to unlock. I was so intrigued by him and I could not stop obsessing over this bad boy, he is so swoon worthy!
“The night before I’d told myself he wasn’t my type. Looking at him now I knew it’d be the right call. He was unlike anything I’d ever seen in Legacy Falls. Enigmatic, with of flare of darkness that radiated off him. He had the perfect amount of bad boy allure.”
These two together, OH MY GAH! Explosive and sizzling hot chemistry that seeps through the pages! You can not deny what these two share the minute they meet! I could not get enough!
I cannot wait for the next book because let me tell you, that cliffhanger had me dead! I need to know what happens next with Rhett and Nova! Bennett’s storytelling and plot is absolute perfection and I can’t wait to read more of her work!
”She’s not something that can be explained. Beautifully twisted, practically insane.”
Five dark and twisted dreamy stars:
4.5 Stars
I love Natalie Bennett’s books because they all have something different in them and they speak to a side of my psyche that I didn’t even know that I would like. They are all dark and twisted … and SWEET POISONS is no different!
To me, this didn’t have the same level of darkness as her other books, but I really liked that. This is a slow burn that leaves a ton of questions that need to be answered. It totally whetted my appetite for what is to come next because it left stuff that needed more information! I have so many questions, which just upped the level of suspense for me with the book.
I liked the characters, especially Nova, because of those freaking questions that need to be answered. I know that something is different about her, but the author kinda plays with readers as she only gives little bits of information. I have a feeling that the next book is going to be totally and utterly explosive with truths and reactions. I think there is a side of Nova that readers have not seen in this book and I am totally seething for more!
Overall, an excellent start to this story about Nova and Rhett. Secrets and lies are totally abounding with this story and I can’t wait to see how some of the characters react when the truths come out. I think that Nova is going to totally be badass in a way that reminds me of some of Natalie’s other female characters that I have loved. So, two thumbs up and happy reading!
What a delicious dark part one of a duet by Ms. Bennett! If you like dark, Ms. Bennett’s books should be on your TBR. I was pulled into the pages. Nova and Rhett will grab your attention, and believe you me, this is going to be one tough wait to read the rest of their stories! I’m usually not into New Adult romance, but, I’m so glad I indulged!
