What a way to end this fabulous series! I’ve been dying for Zander’s story since the first book in the Bradford Sisters Romance Series. And although Ty Porter (from Becky Wade’s book, Meant to be Mine), has been my #1 book boyfriend for years, Zander has dethroned him (Sorry Ty!). I enjoyed returning to the charming setting of this novel, as well as getting to visit with old friends from the previous stories. The faith elements were amazing and touching. The mystery and suspense were incredibly gripping. I was actually surprised at just how much I enjoyed that aspect of the book! I found myself reading late into the night, several nights in a row, wanting to see what happened next. But Zander. Ohmyword. Zander was really something else. Honorable, patient, caring, protective, devoted. *le sigh* This will be a story I’ll read again and again.
Every spring I look forward to many exciting happenings. I love to see my tulips bloom, warmer weather for walks and the release of a wonderful new Becky Wade book. Though spring is touch and go in Ohio, Becky Wade came through for me again this year with a great new book, Sweet on You. Sweet on You is the third book in her Bradford Sisters Romance series and it is truly awesome! I am still sighing and feel like a better person because I had the opportunity to read it.
Sweet on You is the story of Britt and Zander. Britt Bradford is the youngest Bradford sister who is categorized as a warrior princess and is a Chocolatier. ( though that sounds like an athlete for a college team it actually is someone who makes chocolate) Zander has been her best friend since high school and is the faithful silent type. They have hung out forever, but never dated each other. . Sweet on You is their story.
Sweet on you has mystery, adventure and characters you can cheer for. Becky Wade has woven romance wonderfully into Sweet on You. The characters are interesting and they love God and mature during the story. Becky Wade has a small section at the beginning of every chapter with texts, high school notes, and diary entries that add depth to the story.
And. . I just keep sighing. It is a fabulous book and if you are smart you will go and find a way to read it right now. Do not wait. Life is short.
I was given a copy of this book by the publisher, and I was not require to write a review.
I adore Zander and Britt! Their endearing friendship has solidified over time. They have each other’s back. Their witty banter is fun. I’ve enjoyed getting the know the Bradford family.
Sweet on You is a charming romance. It’s the perfect beach read.
Recommend to readers who enjoy inspirational romance.
I was gifted a copy. All views expressed are my honest opinion.
I’m a huge fan of Becky Wade, and I think this is one of her best. It’s the third book in the Bradford Sisters series and features a heroine who makes gourmet chocolates. A delicious romance!
My Review:
Genre: Romance, Christian fiction, suspense.
My Rating: 5 stars.
My Recommendation: 16 up for romance.
My Favorite Character/s: Zander! He’s a writer, (that’s kind of a duh moment for me… :D). And Britt! She makes chocolate, what better pair then a writer and a chocolateier? It’s the kind of a match made in chocolatey stories. I’m writing really stupid descriptions, aren’t I? Yeah, yeah, yeah, back to Zander, he’s a great guy; his care and love for Britt is soooooooooooooooo sweet! I do wish I had the ability to write as much as he does though. He’s the perfect fictional writer from a hard start in life.
My Verse for Zander is 1 Peter 5:7
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. (King James Version.)
Britt, the wounded and independent Britt, I’m not sure where to start with her. She’s sweet in her own way (aka sharing chocolate,) and her fighting spirit was fierce!
My Verse for Britt is Luke 6:31
And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise. (King James Version.)
My Thoughts: The cover is so pretty, if a bit sappy for my tastes but look at the beautiful colors and that dress so pretty! And the pages hidden under that cover are even better, I love the opening scene and I loved the whole book up until the last word, always . . . I love this book so much and I badly want to get my hands on a paperback, which is not something I want to do often for a romance because though I love a good romance I couldn’t care less if it’s Kindle or paperback unless I love the book! And I do soooooooooooooooooooooooo much, this book is soooooooooooooo good and I’m sure you’re done with me saying soooooooooo soooooooooo much so I’m done with my review. But before you go you should know this amazing book comes out today!!!!!!!!
I received this book in exchange for my honest review and I am truly happy to provide it — all the thoughts are my own.
I love all of Becky Wade’s books & Sweet On You is no exception. This novel focuses on the enduring friendship of Zander, who has loved candy-maker Britt since elementary school, and Britt, who has been Zander’s champion, companion, and protector over the years.
Their story is charming, sweetly romantic, inspirational, and real. The plot touches lightly on the wrongs and heartbreaks of this world—adults ruined by addictions, greed, and crime, and the neglected children who pay the price into adulthood. But the answers provided are simple and true:
“The God I’ve come to lean on understands me better than I understand myself. Ultimately, His timing was perfect.”
“I survived because I let God carry me through it . . . Here’s what I know for sure: You can rely on Him in the hard as well as in the easy. If He leads you into something hard, then He’ll provide the grace you need to bear up under it.”
I enjoyed the interactions of all the characters in Zander & Britt’s world. Though flawed, they are also big-hearted, loyal, wise, and funny. I wish my visit with them could have been even longer!
I can’t wait to add a copy to my classroom library, because my student readers value Becky Wade books as much as I do!
Entertaining, uplifting & satisfying! Don’t miss this great read!
Thanks so much to NetGalley & Bethany House for the opportunity to read this book.
Quotes I like . . .
“He had been unfaithful, and if God operated on human rules of fairness, then he would have no right to ask God anything. God would have every right to turn away and shut His ears to his pleas. But against all odds and all comprehension, God didn’t operate on human rules. He’d trampled fairness when He’d sanctioned the most unfair act of history—the crucifixion. Because of that, he had been made right with God. He was God’s son. A son full of mistakes. But a son, nonetheless.”
“His unfaithfulness couldn’t negate God’s faithfulness. Faithfulness was inseparable from God’s character.”
“Joy—deep, simple joy—pulled his mouth into a grin. He opened his arms and caught her with an oomph. Then he spun her around in the air twice. Carefully, he set her back on her feet, steadying her the way he always had emotionally. She hugged him tight, pressing the side of her face against his chest for several long moments.”
“And just like that, standing in the middle of Merryweather Historical Village and looking into her face without continents separating them, the biggest part of his soul—the part that had been missing for a year and a half—locked back into place.”
“Zander had a romantic, slightly heartbreaking, usually serious face. He could pass as either an nineteenth-century poet or one of those harshly handsome vampires from Twilight.”
“When you prayed for something every day and heard nothing but silence for more than a decade, it ground down your hope like corn into cornmeal. Zander had begun to wonder if God could still be good while denying him the one thing he’d prayed for most. Could he depend on a God who refused to give him what he’d waited years for? The right answer was yes. God was still good. God was still dependable. However, disillusionment had driven a wedge into his relationship with God. What had once been simple was now complicated.”
“I’ve traveled all over the world searching for things. Freedom. Experiences I can collect like shells from a beach. Culture. History. Learning. Writing inspiration. The more I search the world, the more certain I am that the person I love the most is right where I began. Everything I truly want can be found in my own hometown.”
“The love he’d extended to her was a sacred trust. She needed to handle it with extreme care. His parents’ love hadn’t proven trustworthy. He’d just lost his uncle. She absolutely had to prove herself dependable in this situation. In fact, she wanted to prove herself to be better than dependable. She wanted to make up for the pain she’d caused him in the past.”
I’d like to preface my review with a note that romance is not my favorite genre to read so if you’re a romance lover, take my comments with a grain of salt. I do enjoy romance elements in books, but not syrupy sweet.
What I loved about this book: The author’s writing is fantastic. The added notes of text messages, phone conversations, notes from the past, etc. at the end of each chapter were wonderful. The dialogue between all the characters was so enjoyable. Very real and relatable.
I enjoyed the relationships between the heroine, Britt, and her sisters and friends. The love and commitment between Britt and the hero, Zander, was heart-warming.
The suspense element of searching for the truth behind Zander’s uncle’s death drew me in and I wanted to know what happened.
Britt’s legalistic Christian grandmother was a hoot and I enjoyed how she brought a comical element to the discussion about what could be controversial topics in today’s world.
The author also provided a great lesson about not trying to do this life on our own and that it’s okay to rely on others, and ultimately on God.
What I didn’t love: While I thoroughly enjoyed this book on many levels, as mentioned above, the romance element was my least favorite part. At times it felt like Britt and Zander were immature high school sweethearts rather than the mature, late twenty-something adults they were. Seems unlikely to me that two people who were close friends for so many years would have such a hard time telling one another how they felt about each other, but I suppose some people do act that way. Maybe it’s my personality and conviction to be honest and get things on the table that added to my disbelief in that part of the storyline.
Overall, this was a great read and I highly recommend it for fans of clean romance.
This is my favorite of the three Bradford Sisters books – maybe because I am a huge sucker for that oblivious, unrequited love trope. I just can’t help it. I adored Zander and felt so deeply for him and for his heart.
Becky Wade’s writing is fabulous as always – which makes reading this story an absolute delight. Her characters are flawed, layered, and full of unique qualities.
There were parts of Zander’s character flaws – his deep-rooted love for Brit, that I found believable, but really unhealthy. While that’s all well and good, I wanted to see a little more resolution in character growth from him.
Brit was hard for me to relate to. I’m literally the opposite of her in most ways. But I think she can definitely be a relatable character to many women. I did enjoy watching her grow and I enjoyed her resolution.
Of course the epic romantic journey was absolutely the best part of this story, and it was a beautiful close to this series!
You can’t go wrong with a Becky Wade book!
This was an excellent conclusion to the series. Becky Wade has me conflicted though, because she writes such amazingly, on point, realistic characters. This causes me to think of them as real people, which causes me to sometimes like or not like a story as well because of my like or dislike of a character What can I say.
So in this one I adored Zander. No, he was a perfect person without any mistakes, but he is such a sweetheart and protector. I couldn’t help but love his character. Now Britt gave me some problems. I think her character was extremely well written, but I didn’t really like her as much. Her dating guys for the adrenaline rush and “I can’t have problems because my sisters have had it worse” complex were a frustrating narrative to read. But maybe the later was because I can have an independent streak that can almost lean that way.
The story overall was amazing.
Sometimes I take way to long to read a book. This one has been on my TBR for a while.
Britt and Zander have been best friends for 13 years. They have helped each other, finish each other’s thoughts, and provided needed support. Zander has been in love with Britt the whole time and she was oblivious. This book reminds me that sometimes patience pays off.
This book was more than a romance. There is a suspense aspect. Zander’s uncle just passed away and he learns that his uncle had a past that was buried. Zander and Britt decide to investigate together to discover the truth. The past wasn’t pretty, but it brought in a few unique and dangerous characters.
This is a book that has a great resolution and is one that helps my faith in humanity and good people. This book is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. I need to read the stories about Britt’s sisters. I loved getting to know them in the pages of this book.
This is a clean read with heavy kissing. This also contains Christian content and non-graphic violence
Source: I received a complimentary copy. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
I love this author and this was a great ending to the the book series. I hated for it to end. Be sure to read them in order.
Hold on to me
“She wanted to weep and laugh and dance…” – this is how I felt while reading. Really enjoyed the series and I’m sad that this is the last book.
It was a great reminder that sometimes God performs a spring cleaning to get read of the debris that separates us from Him.
This story was rich as a delicacy sold in chocolatier owner Britt’s shop. Becky Wade brought the love story of Britt and Zander through some hairpin turns which made the pages flow even faster through my fingers.
It reached a very satisfying end for me as a fan of her novels.
The only sweet thing missing from the story was an actual piece of Britt’s chocolate. And, the rest of the story is to be unwrapped by the next fortunate reader. I won’t say anything more but happy reading.
There’s something intrinsically beautiful about a Becky Wade story, and I have delighted in the reading of each one, but Sweet on You surpasses them all. This story is a gem, a book to be treasured, to eventually be read again in order to delve further into every nuance of emotional depth.
It’s hard to explain why, but I connected with Sweet on You as it entertained and had me smiling on almost every page. Maybe the use of one of my favorite themes, friendship-to-much-more, has something to do with it – for other than a shared faith, friendship is such a strong foundation for enduring all that life brings to a marriage, both good and difficult times.
Zander and Britt had that rare and deep connection, but for Zander, it was much more. It was for Britt also, only she couldn’t see it for the longest time. Zander – successful author, world traveler, confident and unwavering in his love for Britt – is one of my favorite leading men. I loved the light, humorous banter between them. And the kisses, when they do come, are simply breathtaking.
Tonight, dusk was hesitating extra long, as if unsure of its welcome. The peachy pink sky suited the satisfied state of Britt’s heart.
Wade’s exquisite writing paints one picture after another. Nothing ever felt rushed. Scenes are drawn in a way that pulled me in, allowing my senses to take in everything and savor it all at whatever pace I chose. Woven into this is a touch of suspense relating to the questionable manner in which Zander’s beloved uncle died.
And finally, there’s a gentle faith thread that spoke to me. Britt – talented, creative, independent woman that she was – had never learned to depend on God. Zander’s relationship with God was distanced due to what he thought was unanswered prayers. I suspect that many of us can relate to one or both of those situations.
Sweet on You goes on my favorites list, to be read again very soon. I’m eager to see where Becky Wade takes us next!
Highly recommended.
I received a copy of this book through Prism Book Tours and Bethany House. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
This Review Contains Spoilers!!!
This book is spectacular! I knew it was going to be good, but oh my goodness! It gave me ALL the feels! It made me laugh, and cry, and smile, and cheer, and be sad, and angry, and elated. All in a 24 hour period because I couldn’t put it down.
Zander, what on earth can I say about Zander? His love and devotion to Britt is beautiful! It actually reminded me of Christ’s love for us. How patient, passionate, and sacrificial he is toward Britt. What a wonderful reminder of how much we are loved. I loved everything about Zander!
Britt, of dear Britt. I loved how important her friendship with Zander is to her. I loved reading along as her eyes were opened to how much she’s loved him all along. I loved when he turned her world upside down when he kissed her. Ugh…be still my beating heart.
And my favorite part…when they both realized they needed to wait and trust and lean on God! When they figured out that they can’t do it all on their own. Such a heart-wrendering moment!
I loved everything about this story. The romance, the love of family, the humor, the danger and mystery, and most of all the way that God’s love was portrayed. What a fantastic story!
I really like Becky Wade’s Christian Romance novels. They’re actually not squeaky clean, which I think appeals more to an adult novel. However, there isn’t sex or anything like that in them. They just delve a little deeper into emotions and subject matter. Read: not fluffy.
This book is the third in the Bradford Sisters series and my favorite of the three. We learn more about Britt and Zander in the book, with cameo appearances of the past books characters. It could be read as a stand alone, but would be better to know the other sisters better first. I love friend-to-love stories because that is my story with my husband.
Not only is there the push and pull of Britt and Zander’s feelings with each other, there is also an interesting mystery they are trying to solve about his uncle’s death. I enjoy slow burning romances, especially when there is more to the story than just the relationship.
It does seem rushed at the end in order to wrap everything up in a happily ever after.
**There is heavy kissing, talk asking if she invited a boy inside after a date, drinking at a bar, etc. Talk of growing up in an unstable home with a drug addict Mom and Dad in jail. No language or sex.
I have not been in a particular hurry to read Becky Wade’s romances, but if they’re all as good as Sweet on You, I have lied to myself. I need to hurry and read the first two in this series, although Sweet on You stands alone well.
Zander Ford has finally made a literary name for himself, only to be called home to deal with lies.
Lies like… he could get over loving Britt Bradford, his best friend… like the uncle who adopted him was everything he claimed to be…life could just go back to normal after his uncle’s funeral.
I loved the fact that this tale was more than just a fluffy romance. There was real substance to the problems that were keeping Zander and Britt apart. Plus, there was a great (for the reader) mystery involving the true identity of Zander’s uncle. Zander turns away from God because God doesn’t answer to Zander’s liking in Zander’s timing. This is so like us humans in general. I was brought up a little short as I wished Britt would stop being so self-sufficient that she held people at arm’s length. I realized I often try to make it on my own, not accepting others’ help. That doesn’t make us look strong, just stubborn. Ouch. But this is the best part of Christian fiction- seeing something of myself in a character that needs to be changed to produce a better person.
I found a few quotes to love.
“Once, he’d been an orphan convinced he didn’t need saving. But then Carolyn and Frank had proved him wrong when they’d gone ahead and saved him anyway.”
“He reminds me of a Dickens orphan. Tragic and brooding and gorgeous.”
“So many lies. The revealing of them made Zander feel as though the foundation of this house might be torn in half at any second by an earthquake.”
”He was God’s son. A son full of mistakes. But a son, nonetheless.”
I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. This in no way affected my opinions, which are solely my own.
I couldn’t wait for this story from Becky Wade. The previous Bradford sisters books hinted at the romance to come between Zander(love that name) and Britt. Wade delivered a stunning story. I wish I could read it again for the first time. Beautifully done.
Wow! I really loved this book. I had been waiting with anticipation of this story between Britt and Zander, having followed them in the previous stories of this series. I will say that their characters were SO fully drawn in “Sweet on You” that I TRULY felt that I began to know them personally. That being said, there were times when I absolutely did not relate at all to Britt and found her independent spirit to be irritating. On the other hand, I loved everything about Zander. The details of his character were so truly written as to make me believe that there is a “Zander” somewhere in Becky Wade’s life — for her to know all the many faceted aspects of his personality that rang completely true as a whole. I loved his depth and his self-awareness of his own ‘flaws.’ This was a different kind of read from what I usually expect from the author, in that there was a major revelation of an important related character that was somewhat shocking — and there was a mystery and even some minor violence.
Overall this book is a clear 5-star read. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys contemporary romance or to just about anyone who would appreciate reading characters who are so well written and a rather complex storyline.
