If you can’t stand the heat… Lam Draeger’s deep wounds from the death of his young son and his subsequent divorce were still healing when he was saddled with his running his family’s cattle and rodeo stock ranch and the responsibility of raising his siblings and keeping them out of trouble. His every moment is devoted to running the ranch and business smoothly. He’s had no time to mourn his … time to mourn his many losses or try to rebuild his personal life. And romance? Out of the question, no matter how sweet the temptation.
…don’t fall in love in the kitchen
Single mom Gwen Hobbs is right back where she swore she’d never be – cooking in the kitchen at the Draeger ranch just like her mom before her. But since her fiance and the father of her daughters walked out on her, taking all their savings with him, she’s forced to be practical. So she vows to ignore the attraction that hums between her and Lam and to stop dreaming of becoming a chef. But when Lam suggests she audition for a cooking competition, Gwen realizes that not all her dreams are out of reach, and her growing hopes extend far beyond a professionally tricked-out kitchen.

Sweet, heartwarming story. I truly enjoyed reading this book.
Lambert Draeger was in charge of running his family’s farm now that his dad had died. He had so much grief that he was dealing with in addition to the death of his dad, his young son’s tragic death and the break up of his marriage. He didn’t think he would ever find joy again. He went through he motions of life and stayed busy and never missed a meal that Marta, their cook, always had waiting for him. Until, he walked into a messy kitchen with a strange woman singing and “cooking”. There were also two young girls asleep under the table. Who was this and what was she doing in his kitchen? And where was Marta?
Gwen Hobbs had left her children’s father, or actually he had left them broke and practically homeless. She had come home to her mother’s care. Marta had told her she could take a break and Gwen could take over her cooking duties at the ranch. She could enjoy time being a grandmother. Apparently, no one had cleared that with the Boss Man. Here he was glaring at her in his kitchen. Would she be able to stay or would she and her girls be leaving again?
I absolutely loved this story. It was about healing and love, real genuine love. The kind of love that makes a hardened cowboy don fairy wings to make two little girls happy. There was one descriptive sex scene that could have been left and a smattering of hardened cowboy kind of language but the story was beautiful.
I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly offer my honest review.
Both heartwarming and adorable. 5 Stars!
This was my first book by this author. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the story. Both main characters have had a rough patch. If you’ve read the blurb, then you know that Gwen has two adorable twin toddler daughters and a low-life, deadbeat, ex fiancé. After the jerk leaves her with literally nothing, Gwen moves in with her mother and takes over the position of cooking on the ranch that she works and lives on. It’s time for her mother to have a vacation. While Gwen cooks for the large Draeger family, her mother will take advantage of the time she has getting to know her adorable grand-children. Both she and her mother are happy with that arrangement.
But guess who is not happy?
Lam was not thrilled to walk into his kitchen and find a stranger. It doesn’t matter how attractive she is. She does not have his permission to work on his ranch. So you can guess that Lam is not happy with change. But as he gets to know Gwen and her adorable daughters better, the ice around his heart slowly begins to melt. Lam has a heartbreaking story. While you know what happened, the details are revealed over the length of the book. I was glad with that aspect because part of my enjoyment of the book, and how quickly I was turning the pages, was because I wanted to know the whole story.
Gwen and Lam’s relationship grew slowly over the course of the book. It was perfect, believable, and I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.
Sasha Summers has a talent for storytelling that will pull you in, keep you engaged, and result in the swoon-worthy, satisfied ending we all look for in our romances. I can’t wait to read about the other Draeger siblings when their books become available. This is definitely an author I look forward to reading more of. I absolutely recommend this book. Another fantastic book from Tule Publishing!
This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. 🙂
I enjoyed it and bought the next one in the series (at full price).
This is a great book. A woman returns home to her mother with twins in tow after the girls father leaves her with nothing. But not only does she fall in love with Cowboy Man but so do her daughters. A sweet story.
Recommend and ready for the next book in this series!
This was such a sweet romance that my teeth almost hurt. I finished it, it wasn’t difficult to get through and it’s really short. This reminds me of a Hallmark movie, only with less tension. Is that even possible? I guess so!
Gwen has returned home to Last Stand with her twin girls after a devastating breakup with the girls’ father. She was left destitute, without a home and no job. She had no other option. Marta, her mother and long time cook for the Draeger family, welcomes her with open arms and quickly hatches a plan to get her to stay permanently. Lam, the oldest of the Draeger siblings, has taken the helm of Last Stand Ranch after the death of his father. Prior to losing his father, he went through a messy divorce after the death of his son, Grant. He is still reeling from that. That his wife left him? That’s not what has devastated him. Nope, it’s the death of his son, which he blames himself for. That sets the stage for this story. Neither of the characters changes much during the course of the story. The most interesting of the characters in this book are the twins, Jilly and Amy. If it weren’t for them, I’m not sure I would have been able to finish the book.
Love this book. It kept me in interested and wandering if he would come around.
enjoyed this book easy flowing story
What a delightful book this is! A real feel good read, in this worrisome time. Lam and Gwen are perfect and the little twins totally enchanting.
I absolutely adore this book. First off let me say this book is based in Last Stand, TX a new town that has quickly taken root not only in my heart but in many other readers hearts as well. Now on to this book…Oh what is not to love about a big strong manly cowboy that is able to put on a pair of fairy wings for a set of twin girls because he has fallen in love with them. Cowboy-Man as he is know by the sprites is not one to fall so easily. Gruff and grumpy when he finds a strange woman cooking and dancing in is kitchen in the middle of the night and oh yes those two wee ones curled up under the table fast asleep. Gwen Hobbs is an amazing chef and mom and yes we all get to see what Lam or Cowboy-Man thinks about her as we watch this family grow before our eyes. I am so looking forward to more books about the Draegers in the coming months.
Two wounded souls that find an attraction that neither were looking for, but will help each other heal from their pasts. Lam is busy with his family ranch after his divorce and Gwen, single mom is at the ranch only temporarily with her two little girls. Gwen is the cook until she can get back on her feet. Neither can resist the attraction that I feel but will their wounded hearts let them.
I so enjoyed this book, great characters that were very likeable. Loved how the little girls called Lam, Cowboy-Man. This is my first book by this author and will not be my last. Looking forward to reading more in this series.
Sweet on the cowboy is the first book in the Dragers of Last Stand, Texas. This story was a heartfelt, enjoyable, and heartwarming story. It was well written, wonderful, and easy to read. I truly enjoyed reading about these two characters.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was a really quick read and a super fun read. I really had fun with reading about Gwen’s little girls in this book. Even though they are twins they have such huge personalities and very different. I feel kids have a way of making or breaking a book and in this case they really made the this book by adding so much fun. I really enjoyed the relationships between Lam and his siblings. my heart broke for Lam and all his loss but I like how the author made him in a place a healing for almost the whole book. This book was a fun read, it does have adult language and situations in it. I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley. I was under no obligation to post a review and have given my honest opinion
A wonderful start to a new series.
This book is about two people, Gwen and Lam, who are brought together and discover they needed each other more than they imagined. They just didn’t know it at the time. Both have suffered at the hands of fate and deserve a new chapter in life. After Gwen’s fiancé leaves her and the twin girls, she returns to Last Stand, Texas, and begins cooking at the Draeger’s ranch, where her mother works. Lam runs the ranch and still in pain over his divorce and son’s death. He stays busy and has no time for much of anything, especially a new relationship. But, fate has a way of working things like this out when you least expect it.
Gwen and Lam had really good chemistry and I enjoyed seeing them get their happily ever after. I thoroughly enjoyed the beginning of this promising new series. I look forward to reading the rest of the books in this series.
