A sexy, small town, second chance romance. Thanks to a drawn-up-while-drinking-moonshine partnership agreement, Madison Allain has to spend thirty days back on the bayou before she can sell her part of the family business. And if the heat and humidity and freaking alligators of Louisiana aren’t enough to agitate the cool and in-control California girl, then Owen Landry, the equally hot guy who … Owen Landry, the equally hot guy who stole her heart twelve years ago, will sure do the trick.
Owen just has to remember three simple-ish rules: Do not fight with her. Do not fight over her. Do not kiss her. He can do this. He’s charming and friendly for a living after all. But this is Maddie. The only woman to ever shake up this laid-back bayou boy.
Besides, she’s not staying. No way. These people and this town make her crazy. She doesn’t want to be crazy. She definitely does not want to own a swamp boat tour company. She just wants to paint. In her quiet, beautiful, alligators-not-allowed, air-conditioned art studio.
As for that hot bayou boy? Well, he’s…amazing. But he belongs here in the South. And she definitely doesn’t. Even if her heart stays behind when she leaves.

What did I just read! Yes folks….I have suddenly struck gold with my TBR lately! I read Sweet Home Louisiana by Erin Nicholas. I was hooked! I felt like I have been stuck in the Second Chance genre and afraid I will be on a burn out soon. That does not stand a chance!
Madison is trying so hard to avoid her attraction to Owen. I mean come on, he is the reason why she lives in California now. You get the chase and the thrill. The chemistry will have you shivering. I love getting lost in a good book. Sweet Home Louisiana will keep you in your favorite chair and stay put until the end!
SWEET HOME LOUISIANA is the second instalment in Erin Nicholas’ contemporary, adult BOYS OF THE BAYOU romance series focusing on the Landry family. This is twenty -nine year old tour boat operator Owen Landry, and twenty-eight year old artist/gallery owner Madison Allain. SWEETHOME LOUISIANA can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary.
Told from dual third person perspectives ( Owen and Madison) SWEET HOME LOUISIANA focuses on the second chance relationship between twenty-nine year old tour boat operator Owen Landry, and twenty-eight year old artist/gallery owner Madison Alain. Twelve years earlier Madison left the Bayou and her life behind, and heading to California to become something and someone else. Fast forward to present day wherein Madison must return to Autre, Louisiana to sell her late brother Tommy’s shares in the Boys of the Bayou swamp boat tour company, shares Madison inherited upon her brother’s death. But returning to Autre meant facing the family and the man she left behind, a man who stirs something deep within our story line heroine. Enter Owen Landry. What ensues is the rekindling romance and relationship between Owen and Madison, and the potential fall-out as Madison’s time in Autre comes to an end.
According to the terms of the Boys of the Bayou contract, Madison must remain in Autre for thirty days, thirty days that keeps her in close contact with the Landry family. Hoping to convince Madison not to sell her shares, Owen and his brothers convince Madison to work for the company in an effort to rekindle the memories of a time long ago.
The relationship between Owen and Madison is one of second chances: a rebuilding friendship and relationship hurt but the craziness Madison believes affects her own form of crazy. Owen has never stopped loving our story line heroine and if Madison wants to sell her shares, Owen sets about making plans of his own. The $ex scenes are passionate and intense, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
We are reintroduced to the Landry family, friends and business partners: Josh and Tori (My Best Friend’s Mardi Gras Wedding #1) sister Kennedy and long-suffering brother Sawyer: grandpa Leo, grandma Ellie, cousin Mitch; Aunt Cora, billionaire Bennett Baxter, and attorney Juliet Dawson and her brother Chase. Sawyer and Juliet’s story is next in BEAUTY AND THE BAYOU.
SWEET HOME LOUISIANA like My Best Friend’s Mardi Gras Wedding is a story of family and friendships; of second chances and falling in love; of struggle, grief, guilt and moving forward. The premise is entertaining, engaging and energetic; the romance is captivating and seductive; the characters are dynamic, charismatic and caring. My only issue is the conflict resolution -which is almost identical to the first instalment.
Sweet Home Louisiana is the second in the ‘Boys of the Bayou’ series by Erin Nicholas. We met Owen in the first book (My Best Friends Mardi Gras Wedding) and he was pretty swoony there. But, here in his own story he’s just… wow!! A truly sweet and sexy southern gentleman, and hot as sin to boot.
He’s the man that will bring Maddie back to her roots. Maddie just wants to do her 30 days and get the heck out of Dodge, but Owen isn’t about to let that happen. Not on his watch, he’ll do whatever it takes to strip the California out of the girl and put the Bayou back where it belongs.
Fun, crazy mixed up love and a strong family connection makes this a great read.
When Erin Nicholas puts pen to paper she creates magic. When she writes a book she has a way of making you feel like you are actually in that world. Erin Nicholas is definitely a favorite author of mine. Any book she writes I will never hesitate to purchase and read definitely over and over again. I truly love the world’s and the hot and sexy men she creates. Erin Nicholas captivated my heart from page one.
I love the Landry family. I hate the heat but I am ready to go to Autre, Louisiana and stay. Owen and Maddie have a chemistry that is amazing. I loved watching their story unfold before my very eyes. They have so much passion and heat. I felt everything reading Sweet Home Louisiana. I cried, my heart skipped a beat and I laughed. There were heartswooning moments and a dash of craziness you can only get in the Bayou. Sweet Home Louisiana is more than a romance. Sweet Home Louisiana is a second chance romance and a story of family and friendship and letting go. I found myself amazed at how deep Owen loves Maddie. After all these years of being apart from each other he still knows her completely. I’m so in love with the Boys of the Bayou. With each book Erin writes in this breathtakingly phenomenal series it gets better and hotter. Whew those boys are definitely irresistible. I couldn’t put Sweet Home Louisiana down. I read this all in one night resulting in a very late night with Owen and Maddie. I love all the great secondary and supporting characters. I can’t wait to see what Erin Nicholas has next for us. I was left wanting more and more. I don’t ever want this series to end. This is truly my all time favorite Erin Nicholas series. So if you like hot, sexy and protective southern men and strong, wiley and sometimes sassy women you definitely will love Sweet Home Louisiana and Erin Nicholas.
5 star review Sweet Home Louisiana (Boys Of The Bayou #2) by Erin Nicholas
This is the second book on the series and can easily be read as a stand alone, although since there is only one book before this one I would suggest you pick up book one as well.
Madison Allain is a part owner and thanks to conditions she has to spend thirty days back on the bayou before she can sell her part of the family business.
What she doesn’t count on is the feelings she still has for Owen Landry. Madison is the only woman who drives Owen absolutely crazy.
She is down on the bayou under sufferance and the last thing she wants is to be there. All she wants is to return to her art and California.
I love the crazy, whacky Landry family and Erin Nicholas brings Autre, Louisiana to life for me. I would love to be a part of their family.
This is a second chance at love story. The chemistry between Owen and Maddie is intense, the only real question is can they ignore their feelings or will they give in to the passion?
Sweet Home Louisiana is a story with a great deal of snort worthy, laugh out loud moments which captivated me from the first to the last chapter.
There was absolutely nothing that I would change and I cannot wait for the next book in the series.
Book 2 in the Boys of the Bayou and what a series this turning out to be, this book ticked every box for me, it’s a great read with wonderful characters and it will certainly give you all the feels you would expect in a five star read.
Madison may be part owner in the Boys of the Bayou Touring and Hunting business but she hasn’t been a part of it for many years in fact she is only a partner because her brother left it to her when he died in a tragic accident. Madison wants to sell but the terms of the partnership say she must spend 30 days in the Autre before a sale can go through……..
It’s funny how a place you think you hate becomes a place you love when you spend time with the family and friends you grew up with, when you start to remember all the funny things and moments that happened during your youth with people you love and that’s exactly what happens to Madison but she also falls in love all over again with one of the partners so will she stay or will she sell…..
This book captivated me, I laughed, I smiled and I swooned at the hot scenes throughout this great story, the characters have chemistry and the witty banter flows naturally. A must read.
While I enjoyed the style of writing and flow of the storyline that Erin provided, this wasn’t my favorite book. It might have been the person that Maddie had turned into, because when Erin was writing about what she had done years ago with Owen, I really liked her. I felt that Owen and the guys were working so hard and compromising with Maddie but she was so in her own head that she was not receptive to anything they brought to the table. I really liked the character of Owen, who was a total alpha yet didn’t settle for anything he didn’t think was best for him. As I continued to read, I doubted that Maddie and Owen would end up back together, but thankfully these stories end with a HEA. Overall it was a good read, but maybe read the first book in the series before this one because it might fill in some of the blanks and answer some of the questions I had.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Author Erin Nicholas has me wanting to pack my bags and heading from Texas down to Louisiana,. Not to hit the Casinos or Bourbon Street like so many of my friends or family, but to look up the real life Boys of the Bayou. I know there have to be some just like Owen down there someone. Oh my stars and gators I knew from past books that by the time we got to Owen’s book it had the potential to knock me out of my seat and it did that and more. If you have read any of the other books you will know all about these guys and gals who work and run the tour & hunting company called Boys of the Bayou. In this book we learn a bit more about what happens to Tommy and why Maddie is back in Autre… and why she left in the first place. Sweet Home Louisiana had me laughing in parts and wanting to cry in others. It had me digging deep looking for answers about different characters in this amazing and yes crazy cast of a family. This is of those books that when I finished it I was so ready for the next book in this series because yes it is that oh so good!
I absolutely loved Owen and Maddie – after meeting Owen in the first book, I couldn’t wait to find out what the story was between these two. Oh my goodness, Erin Nicholas really delivered with this couple! The Boys of the Bayou are made up of an incredibly entertaining family and getting to know them all is an experience.
Owen is steadfast – he knows he only loses control in one area: Maddie. Maddie is Tommy’s little sister and is scared of how much she feels when she’s in Autre. They have a long history together and despite the 12 year gap, the feelings haven’t gone away.
These two had a lot to learn about each other as adults. A lot had changed over the years but family always is there to help pick up the pieces. I loved how these two figured out things together once they quit fighting the past.
This is a great addition to the series and I cannot wait for Sawyer’s book… the set up is great and I love how Maddie is meddling!
Another fantastic story in the Boys of the Bayou series!!! I loved, loved Owen and Maddie’s story. This series gets better with every book. I could not put it down. I loved how Erin Nicholas wrote each of the scenes (some of the scenes were so hot!!!) and revealed details just as your curiosity almost got the best of you. The emotions of each character just jumped off the page. You definitely will want to visit Autre and take a tour so you can experience it yourself. Owen and Maddie’s story has lots of emotions- denial, flirty banter, sexual tension, loyalty, laughs, family and forever love, including their own special kind of crazy, bayou crazy! Definitely a must read!!!
Madison Allain was born and raised a bayou girl. After her mother is killed by a drunk driver and her father imprisoned for avenging her mother’s death, she moves to California to live with family. She has built a new life where she paints and works in an art gallery.
Owen Landry is the bayou boy Maddie was in love with before she left. Owen is part owner of Boys of the Bayou, an airboat tour company taking tourists to see alligators or to go fishing/hunting. Owen loves his job, his family and the bayou.
Maddie’s brother was part owner of Boys of the Bayou. After a tragic death, his ownership was transferred to Maddie. She has tried for 12 years to leave her bayou life behind her. Though she has been a silent partner she decides to sell her shares. The catch is she must return to the bayou and work alongside the other partners for 30 days. Maddie is strong, independent and determined. She can do this! She will not get sucked into the bayou life and family she has left behind.
Unfortunately, the heart doesn’t forget and this bayou family has some amazing love stories. When Maddie and Owen are alone together there is no denying there is more than just a spark between them. After almost killing an alligator to “save” Owen and professing her love before Owen jumps onto a run away airboat, Maddie is forced to realize that maybe the bayou is where she really belongs. When Owen sees how much Maddie misses painting and her life in California is he prepared to give up the bayou for her?
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Can you ever go home again? More important, what if you’re not sure you want to?
Sweet Home Louisiana is the second in Erin Nicholas’s incredible Boys of the Bayou series. Owen Landry is one of the current owners/partners of Boys of the Bayou, a swamp boat tour company owned jointly with his cousins Sawyer and Josh, and Sawyer’s late best friend Tommy. Tommy Allain left his shares to Madison, his baby sister.
Maddie and Owen were friends growing up, and the year she turned sixteen, that friendship took a turn to become the hottest thing since sliced bread. Or shrimp and gator gumbo.
However Maddie moved away not long after that, and Maddie’s since restyled herself as a cultured California artist and gallery owner. The memories of that teenage romance are bittersweet, taking her back to a time when family and the wild, deep passions that love inspires are everything. She can’t envision returning to that loss of self control, and yet, bound by the terms of the ownership agreement, she has no choice but to spend the next month working for Boys of the Bayou in order to sell.
Owen was hoping he’d be long over Maddie–he hasn’t laid eyes on her in years, but apparently his heart has other ideas. And the Landry family welcomes Maddie back enthusiastically, like a long-lost daughter. The welcome both warms her, and truly terrifies her, filling her with the need to run and to protect herself.
Erin Nicholas has penned another masterpiece in Sweet Home Louisiana. It’s filled with heat and heart. Owen and Maddie share a deep chemistry which the years apart have not muted in the least. And we (and Maddie) are reminded that while passion can inspire what seem like crazy actions, that depth of emotion is ultimately our greatest strength, giving us the will and means to make a life meaningful and satisfying. And yes, home is where the heart is.
Sweet Home Louisiana is Erin Nicholas at her finest. Characters who are warm and funny and sincere and quirky and oh-so-real. Chemistry that leaps off the page and pulls us in and curls up in our hearts and burrows down to stay. Heartfelt conversations. Vulnerability. Taking the time to listen to those you love. Willingness to do the right thing. Incredible storytelling. Humor. This book has it all. It’s the ultimate feel-good read–one to savor the first time through, and with every re-read. If I could, I’d happily move to this little corner of the bayou–the Landrys and Boys of the Bayou define home and family in this universe where they speak their minds and you know they’ve got your back.
Sweet Home Louisiana is another keeper, and Beauty and the Bayou can’t come soon enough!
The chemistry between Maddie and Owen is so combustible, the pages of my book (okay, my e-reader) almost caught on fire! Erin Nicholas has done it again, cranking up the sexy down in the bayou with this second chance story between the good ole boy who stayed in the overrun-with-family small town of Autre, LA and the girl who high-tailed it to California, away from the flammable emotions that boy makes her feel.
Maddie and Owen had a bit of growing up to do, but I think Owen actually grew in their time apart while Maddie just shoved all those feelings deep inside. Of course she’s going to go off like a firecracker when offered the temptation of her even sexier than before first love.
Great second book in the series, cannot wait to see what’s in store for Sawyer and the rest of the Landry family and friends!
I received an advanced copy of this book from Booksprout and the author. This is my honest review.
I absolutely loved this book. I read the first book in the series and was pleased to find that this book was just as enjoyable! This is going to be such a GREAT series!
This is Owen and Maddie’s story. We meet Owen in book 1 and it hints to the forecasted storm that is “Maddie”. They definitely have a H.O.T. and stormy past, 12 years later their feelings have just been simmering! We learn what actually happened to Tommy and get a better insight as to how it has effected everyone that works at Boys of the Bayou!
Oh my goodness- I don’t really know what else to say except- you …must…read…this…book!!!
Oh. My. Gawd! Is it possible that Owen is even sweeter than Josh? Yes, yes, it is possible. And so true. Owen is a protector through and through. And he protects everyone but especially Maddie. By everyone, I mean, if Owen even likes you a bit, he’s going to protect you and you may not even realize he’s doing it at first.
I simply adored Owen’s sweet and tough protectiveness, his obvious love for Josh and Sawyer (and yes, he actively protects them), and his huge heart so open for Maddie. I loved how he was willing to sacrifice everything and anything for her. How big a love is that? I mean sure, he’s a Landry and Landrys do grand gestures and Autre is a place known for its live-out-loud citizens, but Owen is on a whole other level.
And he drags Maddie right into it with him, despite how much she might not want to go there. Because when Maddie gets to Autre, she really, really, really does not want to be there, or live out loud, or love her family, or well, have anything to do with Autre, the Landrys, or Boys of the Bayou. She’s so buttoned up it’s painful.
And there is nothing worse (for me as a reader) than seeing one half of a couple so clearly not want to be in the relationship even though they can’t seem to help themselves. I really struggled through the opening of Sweet Home Louisiana because of that intense desire of Maddie’s to not care about Owen, or her family, or Autre. Even as I understood her reasoning, it dampened the mood.
But you know those Landrys. A whole lotta love, a whole lotta showing how much she’s needed, a whole lotta drama, and Maddie is once again in love with Autre. With the Landrys it’s always a wild ride and Sweet Home Louisiana shows that off to perfection.
Nicholas sure has a way with words because once again, the hottest moment in this book is a phone call! Hot damn! She did it in Nice and Easy and she did it again here. Kennedy and Bennett are all kinds of hot on the phone and don’t even get me started on their first face-to-face. But that ending was just too, too perfect! Look out Sawyer, I think your brooding days are over! I am so ready for both Sawyer and Kennedy to get their HEAs.
Sweet Home Louisianna by Erin Nicholas is the second book in her Boys of the Bayou series. Once again we are whisked away to Autre, Louisianna, the bayou where Boys of the Bayou Tour Company runs swamp tours. Maddie Allain has inherited a majority share of the business following the death of her brother, Tommy. She has been happily living in California for the past twelve years and wants to sell her share of the business and return home to California. In order to accomplish this goal she has to spend four weeks in Autre working with her partners. Owen Landry is anxiously awaiting Maddie’s return. He was madly in love with her when she left Autre. Their reunion brings bright sparks and heated attraction. I really liked how Erin Nicholas brought these two together. Owen had lots of support from family and friends in the bayou neighborhood but he outdid himself with unselfish love to win her love. This is one hot read that’s sure to make the reader “happily nuts.”
I think Erin Nicholas might be crawling up the list of must-buy authors. She is so consistently good.
Sweet Home Louisiana was our next in the Boys of the Bayou series – this time a second chance romance (which all of you know, is not my favorite). But this time the second chance trope worked! No ridiculous misunderstandings or wasted time. The time apart was necessary for both Owen and Madison to grow up. Basic plot line here is Owen and Madison dated when they were teens. Madison is coming back to sell her portion of the boy’s boating company, but she has to spend 30 days working with the Landrys. You can imagine what happens next.
Like every Erin Nicholas book I’ve ever read, Sweet Home Louisiana is full of lively characters, funny situations, hilarious dialogue, hot sex, and sweet angst. The next book in the series looks just as great; a bit of the Beauty and the Beast going on which I CANNOT resist!
I’m completely in love with Boys of the Bayou! Owen has stolen my heart as my new favorite southern boy. He is just one of the good guys; not only does he have a huge heart, loves his family, his town, but also cares deeply for his woman…sigh.
Madison Allain moved away twelve years ago. She is finally at a point where she wants, no she needs, to sell her portion of the Boys of the Bayou business. She has no idea why her brother, Tommy, left it to her. She hasn’t been back to Louisiana for twelve years. Well, except for the brief time to bury her brother, but that really doesn’t count. Now she has to spend thirty days in the very place that seems to bring out her crazy. She isn’t sure she is ready for it. She also isn’t sure the Landry family is ready for it, especially Owen. He has a knack of bringing out her special kind of crazy. The next thirty days will be torture.
Owen Landry is typically a laid back guy, but when it comes to Maddie Allain something crazy stirs in his blood. He hasn’t seen her for twelve years and knowing that she now has to spend the next thirty days working at the business that makes his family proud, brings in their income, and is something he loves makes him just a little crazy. Is it a good crazy, he isn’t sure yet, but he is itching to find out. He always did enjoy being around Maddie in all her full glory crazy. The next thirty days should be fun.
Lord Almighty, I love these Bayou boys! Have you ever had a relationship that made you a little bit crazy? If not, you can live vicariously through Owen and Maddie. They are the definition of “love like crazy!”
Maddie is in a tight spot. Since her grandpa and his business partner decided to write up a business agreement, while drinking, she has no option other than to head down to the bayou. She will have to work in the “family” business for 30 days if she wants to be able to sell her share to an outside party. Maddie has zero desire to be in Autre. She wants to stay in Cali where her life is quiet, organized, and NOT sweltering hot. Autre is the opposite of quiet and the humidity is ridiculous. Not to mention everyone is in everyone’s business, whether you want them to be or not. They are nosy, loud, and loveable! She doesn’t want to remember how much she loves the people here because in her mind she needs to go home to her peaceful life in California…right?
His family may be nosy and a little on the rowdy side, but this is Owen’s life. He loves his family, town, and the Boys of the Bayou. His passion is evident when he gives tours and he is invested in making it successful. He, along with Josh and Sawyer, don’t want some stranger coming in and owning 35% of it. They have put too much time and effort in for someone to come in and ruin it. So, they will just have to convince Maddie to not sell. Turns out, that is easier said than done.
Maddie is terrified of becoming her mother, who was the free-spirited type but who also is the reason her dad went to prison. She knows that Owen brings out a different side of her that she hasn’t seen since she left Autre. When they were young, their relationship was one filled of passion and strong emotions. As an adult, she realizes people don’t normally burn down sheds for love and wants to steer clear of anyone who makes her feel that strongly.
Tommy’s death affected them all in different ways. Maddie wants to stay out of Autre, Sawyer goes into super protective mode, while Owen and Josh try to keep the business going with one less man. When it becomes apparent that Owen is doing his best to help Sawyer by being the scapegoat, Maddie can’t help but start to feel those “crazy” feelings again
Ohhh wow!!!! The stories keep getting better!!! Owen is the biggest flirt with all the ladies around the bayou until Maddison makes a visit from California to sell her part of the business. But before she can sell she has to spend 30 days there.
This was the story I was eager to read! It definitely didn’t disappoint. It was full of swoon worthy moments but this one was my favorite of the entire book: “But you think I’m sexy when I’m taking care of other people.” She gave in. “It is.” HELLO SWOON WORTHY MOMENT!! But you’ll gave to read the book to know where that moment shows up!!
