The New York Times bestselling author of the Driven series turns up the heat when a sexy bet turns into so much more….Hawkin Play, the bad boy rock star with a good guy heart, has lived a lifetime of cleaning up after his twin brother’s mistakes. Hunter’s most recent screwup could land Hawke in jail and risk the band’s future. Hawke agrees to guest lecture at a local college to stay in the … college to stay in the judge’s good graces—and a bet with his bandmate to seduce his sexy teaching assistant is icing on the cake.
Quinlan Westin is harder to bed than Hawke imagined. She knows his type and is determined to avoid the rocker at all costs—even if their attraction runs deeper than simple lust.
Just as Hawke might finally be winning over the girl, his brother has other plans. When Hunter realizes his twin finally has a weakness, he’ll stop at nothing to take advantage….

The storyline was well-written, and I thoroughly enjoyed this book!
The reoccurring formula in most of the author’s books, is an alpha male who was subjected to horrible abuse and/or trauma at a young age, has found a passion that has helped him partially deal with it, and become top in the field. However, because of the abuse, he does not believe that he deserves love and is basically a male whore. However, a woman comes into his life, with whom he first has strong chemistry and she proves to him despite his attempts to push her away “to protect her from himself”, that he is worth loving.
In this book, the woman is Colton Donovan’s sister Quinlan. She is working on her PhD thesis and is assigned by her adviser to be the TA for a guest lecturer, rocker, Hawkin Play. They have immediate chemistry, but she is not interested in another player, having watched her brother. But she sees that he is more than what he seems and she might just enjoy the ride with her eyes wide open- until their feelings become stronger. But, Hawkin’s brother wants to hurt him and will use anyone to do it.
About 50% of the book is sex. If you are reading this book to get ideas for yourself, then there you are. However, if you are reading this for a story, the sex gets a bit redundant. Nevertheless, it is a good addition to the series.
Audio Review from August 2019
I really enjoyed this story!
I enjoyed the pop in of Rylee and Colton!!
Seeing Quinlan stand up to her brother was fun too! They have a great sibling dynamic.
Hawk had some struggles to work through and seeing him evolve through the story was really wonderful!
The female narrator is a good performer but I don’t care for her voice.
The Male narrator on this was a perfect fit for Hawkin! He just nailed the feel of the character
Narrated by: Angelica Lee, Mike Chamberlain
Well first point to make, Kellan bloody Kyle – just having him mentioned was enough for me to give this book at least 3 stars however, after finishing I’m happy to give it 4 stars.
Start with the good – oh don’t we all want a rock star to enter our lives and be swept off our feet?! What a dream and I’m glad Quin got her happy ending (and that it wasn’t with a racer!). I would love to read more about how Quin copes with the distance and the band tour however I don’t think there is any plans to write a sequel for Quin?
Now to the rockstar – Hawkin Play was very easy to like. The hot lead singer who hides his emotional kind side to the public. Only to open it up to Quin. See? Easy to like. And I did like him. But he didn’t measure to to Kellan (if I were to compare).
As for the unfortunate bad – Unfortunately the writing lost it for me. I loved the story plot but I felt the way it was written didn’t get me addicted. I would find myself zoning out while reading it and then picking up where I left off to realise I hadn’t missed much.
So overall, 4 stars.
This book is a page turner & one that has ALL the feels! Heartfelt, sexy, and so much steam. The characters are so well written & relatable. I LOVED everything about this book. The hero was beyond yummy, the heroine was smart, independent, and had a brain! I love it when the heroine holds her own. They bicker, argue, and respect one another. Bromberg has her readers laughing, crying, angry and swooning…often times all within the span on a chapter lol. Angelica Lee & Mike Chamberlain are fabulous narrators and voice artists. They do an amazing job portraying the characters, bringing them to life and humanizing them with their emotions, attitude and personality.
Another amazing book in this series. K. Bromberg is a phenomenal writer and extremely talented in her storytelling. She wrecked me emotionally with this one; my heart broke for Hawkin with what he witnessed as a child and burdened himself with trying to keep his “promise”. Dealing with Colton growing up prepared Quinlan for this moody but amazing man, allowing her to see past the facade. Watching her put him in his place was priceless.
A definite MUST read!
I got a little nervous regarding the bet that was forged…I was super nervous that the threesome that was entailed on the bet would happen and when it comes to my romance books—threesomes are not my cup of tea. No offense to those who enjoy those kinds of reads–I am just more traditional in my romance readings…
SO, for those of you that are like me and are not into that type of thing–its okay to continue reading!!
In this book Colton from Driven series sister is having a second chance. Her
ex is now a rock star and she has to make choices to fall or not to fall again.
I enjoyed this one. Quin was always a fave and it seems hawke has met his match. I liked the dynamic and how they found each other.
Had a hard time putting this book down.
Enjoyed Quinlan & Hawkin’s story so much, I just love this couple!! 5 Stars all the way!!
I loved this book! Great characters, funny conversations and a great twist to the typical romance. I so wish she would write a sequel.
Another great story in this series that I’ve come to love. Really liked Quinn in the driven series and loving her even more now. Really liked her and Hawkin together and how the story developed. Another loving hot sweet romance!
Another novel set in the Driven universe, Sweet Ache is centred around Quinlan (Quin) Westin, Colton’s sister and Hawkin (Hawke) Play, a typical playboy, smoking hot lead singer of rock band Bent.
I loved Quin when we saw her during the main Driven series novels, her challenging Rylee in Driven to make sure she was good enough for Colton as well as her confidant, pushing her to stick by Colton during the early stages of their tumultuous relationship; her tenacity, smart mouth and her relationship with Colton meant she was a loveable character for me. I am pleased to say we get this and more in sweet ache.
Hawke is a playboy with an ego but as ever this is a façade to a degree, hiding a man of his word with family secrets, and is fiercely loyal. Hawke has a sweet tooth, a smoking hot body, freaking hot moves between the sheets, with a voice to match and an addiction to woman rarely repeating the same experience twice, relishing on the whole fan girl groupie thing. Until Quin…..
For me Sweet Ache was a book I loved, for reading’s sake because I found Hawke and especially Quin fantastic lead characters and instantly likeable and I don’t know what isn’t to love about this novel full of sass, and fantastic musical innuendo, overall another brilliant book from Kristy!
(3.5 STARS)
This time around we get Quinlan and Hawkin’s story. Quinlan is Colton’s sister and Hawk is the lead singer of the band Bent. One decision to protect his family will plant Hawk into Q’s life. I liked the story line, Hawkin was definitely a complex character with a ton of baggage and together they sizzled but I just wanted something more between them. Even the epilogue left me disappointed. I liked the book but compared to the rest of the books in the series Sweet Ache was just OK.
Another grand slam for me! I dug this book, like a lot! This is going in my reread pile for sure. I just love how she writes.
I have to say, this book was a lot lighter than the last. I thought both characters were great and so well written. I took longer to read this one because I really wanted to enjoy and savor it.
One of the many things I thought while reading this was, I wanna hang out with these two. Just like sit in a recording studio with Quin while Hawk noodles away on his guitar. Hell, I want to hang with all her characters! My husband plays bass (Bass players finger better! Heh) so I need to ask him if he’s got a spare pick around. *wink wink*
Overall, fantastic story. If I had to pick one thing that I didn’t care for….there was a lot of inner monologue. I’m personally a dialog girl, but it didn’t take anything away from me enjoying the book. Really looking forward to the next book!
Another great book and story by this author. I am definitely looking forward to reading the next book in this series. I recommend this book.
K.Bromberg does it once again, gives her readers a beautiful story, with characters that you just fall in love with Hawkin and Quin. The unfolding love story between these two is palpable and as always we are swallowed into a vortex of emotions for not only the story but the characters. And it links the much loved characters into the story from the driven series, now just waiting for it to be available on audiobook. Another brilliant creation K.Bromberg.
Loved this book, it has racers and rock stars! It’s “imperfectly perfect”. Absolutely loved Quinn and Hawkin, and the guest appearance of a couple fav rock stars and band didn’t hurt either. It ROCKed!
couldn’t get into book
