Innkeeper Chronicles #2 Dina Demille doesn’t run your typical Bed and Breakfast. Her inn defies laws of physics, her fluffy dog is secretly a monster, and the only paying guest is a former Galactic tyrant with a price on her head. But the inn needs guests to thrive, and guests have been scarce, so when an Arbitrator shows up at Dina’s door and asks her to host a peace summit between three warring … three warring species, she jumps on the chance.
Unfortunately, for Dina, keeping the peace between Space Vampires, the Hope-Crushing Horde, and the devious Merchants of Baha-char is much easier said than done. On top of keeping her guests from murdering each other, she must find a chef, remodel the inn…and risk everything, even her life, to save the man she might fall in love with. But then it’s all in the day’s work for an Innkeeper… “Andrews is an auto-buy no matter what the genre!” —Romantic Times

It has been a while since I read Clean Sweep and I maybe should have reread it or at the very least a summary of it lol. I was a bit lost in the beginning but most came back quickly.
I really liked Dina before but this book just made me love her so much more. She was faced with some tough decisions and managed them all so good. She really became into her own as an innkeeper this book.
I liked that things didn’t go perfect at first for her all the time and she learned along the way.
I also enjoyed the magic system in this world and just the world building in general, I wasn’t too sure when I started this series but I really am enjoying it all now.
This book also was a bit of a tearjerker and emotional as we follow her a long but still had plenty of humor to balance it out a bit.
Overall, I enjoyed it and looking very much forward to next book.
I rate it 4
Dina DeMille doesn’t run the typical bed and breakfast. Her inn defies physics, her dog is a monster, and the inn needs guests to survive. When an Arbitrator shows up asking to host a peace summit between three warring species in her inn she accepts. Now she must keep the peace between three angry species, remodel the inn, find a chef, and deal with a determined police officer.
This book takes place about 7 months after the first book. I really enjoyed this nonstop adventure for Gertrude Hunt and Dina. A lot happens in this book. We get to meet a new species, the Hope-Crushing Horde, and we get to learn more about the merchants of Baha-char and the vampires. I found the different cultures and practices between these three species fascinating. Dina handled them all like a pro and it was enjoyable watching her put them in their place when they got out of line.
This was a great sequel to the first book and I can’t wait to learn more about this world and the Innkeepers. I know I can always count on Ilona Andrews to write amazing worlds and characters that I never want to stop reading about.
A great start into a new world. A go to re-read for me
Yow, what a great book! If you’re looking for great world-building, great unpredictable scifi with great people with depth this is the one you will really enjoy. I know I did.
Dina is one special person, who the more I read about her the more I liked her. She has honor, power and tries to her best ability to honor the rules of being an Innkeeper. However, she is also ingenious when it comes to problem solving even though at times (like this one) it’s not exactly by the book. She’s an outside of the box thinker. The connection between her and The Gertrude Hunt Inn was both wild and endearing. Beast, Dina’s pet? continues to be a great addition as is Dina’s permanent dangerous guest, Caldenia.
George is the Arbitrator from the Office of Arbitration who is a powerful entity to deal with. He figures in a big way in the story as does Jack and Gastan who came with him. But there is also plenty of other powerful “people” to deal with and they have their own agendas.
Orro, was a skilled chef but also so dramatic that he added fun too. So although there was plenty of danger there was also some humor too. And not just with this chef.
I’m used to surprises in this series but a supremely feared Turan Adin turned out to be a shocker. But then the ending had a few more shockers in store. I loved it. And I’m going to keep reading this series.
On a last note: The version I read also had some very beautiful illustrations too. Similar to the beautiful eBook cover that I liked so much.
“It was the kind of sky that called space pirates to their ships.”
Sweep in Peace was everything I wanted in the Innkeeper Chronicles and MORE!! I am falling more and more in love with Dina the Innkeeper of Gertrude Hunt. The inn that houses not only the supernatural but the intriguingly murderous Caldenia.
Book two didn’t quite pull me in like Clean Sweep did but I would be lying if I said it wasn’t every bit the sequel I wanted. There was more of an OMG factor for me. I didn’t see some things coming and there is nothing I love more than to be taken off guard and blown away.
I can’t wait to dive into One Fell Sweep book 3 of the Innkeeper Chronicles.
While this is part of a series (Innkeeper Chronicles) it could stand alone. It’s a quick read, perfect for a lazy afternoon. Don’t forget to brew a cup of tea!
I’m still seriously enjoying this series. I am not as interested in the current romance part of the plot as it’s not as awesome as I’d like it to be, but I’m definitely engaged in the story and finding out what happens next!
I really love this whole series.
This was a great improvement on the first book in the series. The main issues I had with the first book (it felt really short and the plot wasn’t fleshed out enough) are gone, and it made for a gripping book. Instead of getting chores done, I found myself pulled back into the book.
I really enjoyed it!
Original series that is wide open.
This is an example of why I like Illona Andrews books. Well worth your time for a fun and relaxing break in a very different place. There is of course action and adventure, but is great fun and a nice break fro reality.
This is the second book of the Innkeeper Chronicles. The first book in the series was good, and this one was even better. Dina Demille is the keeper of an Inn for supernaturals. Her Inn was dormant for a long time and due to the symbiotic relationship of the magic between these supernatural Inns, the Innkeepers, and the guests, it requires more guests for it’s magic to thrive. The Inn is located in a small town without much traffic. Dina is so desperate for guests that she agrees to host peace talks between three warring factions of supernaturals who would just as soon kill each other as make peace. This places the first rule of Innkeepers in grave peril: keep the guests safe! The characters; human, alien, and the Inn itself, are well done. The magic of the Inn and Innkeeper and the world building is original and interesting. The story is engrossing and just light and humorous enough that the few gruesome parts are not as troubling (to me) as in the first book. If the next two books are as good as this one, it will be one of my favorite series.
Loved it.
This was such a fun book with lots of action going on for such a short novel. I enjoyed the first book in the series but this one moved the storytelling to the next level as it expanded more on the mythology of the world while integrating the major characters from the last book. It has mystery, action, very G rated romantic elements and weird and wonderful characters. I loved this one and cannot wait to start the next one in the series.
I felt this book moved a bit slowly, but in order for us to get all the information we needed for the whole plot, the book needed to move at that pace. There was a lot happening and it was so well written. I haven’t re-read this one as many times as the others though purely because I get impatient over the whole revealing bit. Plus, apple trees.
Such a fun read. Interactive Bed & Breakfast for the truly difficult to place clientele. Down the street lives a fellow with an interest in the innkeeper. And trouble, lots of supernatural/interstellar trouble.
I love this series. The characters are well written and exciting. The story line is new and invigorating. I have read the series a few times, and never get tired of the story. I can’t wait until the next in the series is released.
Love all the Ilona Andrews books.
really like this series
I’ve come to love anything by ilona andrews
