Swallow Me Whole is my first Gemma James book. It’s a friends-to-lovers romance that is deliciously dirty. Sadie and Ashton have been friends for most of their lives. After catching her boyfriend cheating, Sadie decides that her inexperience is what’s hurting her in the relationships she attempts, so she turns to Ashton, the brother of her best friend, for guidance. Ashton has had a thing for Sadie for years. His experience and the longstanding trust they’ve built together makes him the perfect person to lead Sadie through some lessons in seduction. Rules are set and broken; lines are blurred. As if the two do not have enough else to contend with, they face conspirators who are against the couple at every turn… Will Ashton and Sadie get their happily ever after?
Gemma James writes scorching erotic romance. Swallow Me Whole was a fast, dirty story that is a relatively easy read. Unfortunately, I just didn’t love the book. It was good and other then my dislike of Sadie; I don’t have any complaints. Yet, in the long run, I didn’t connect with the story enough for it to be more than a one and done for me. The plot is full of drama including another woman chasing after Ashton and parental interference. But then again, there will always be drama of some nature in a romance. Gemma writes a thorough plot, and it’s relatively well paced. Really my only struggle was with Sadie’s character. She was a big to easily browbeaten by her parents and at times came across rather juvenile. Ashton and Sadie are the same age but is life has made Ashton more grown up and he’s established himself in several areas. I did love that Swallow Me Whole was written in duel perspectives and appreciated that when constructing her book, Gemma James took the less obviously plot twists to keep it interesting. Overall, I would say this book was a 3.5 for me.
Swallow Me Whole by Gemma James was a fabulous read.
If you know me, you know that I love a good friends-to-lovers romance. This is definitely one of those books. AH! It was feel good, sexy, thrilling, and so darn entertaining. Not only were the characters so push-pull between one another, but they were also so in sync with each other.
I cannot wait to get this book in paperback. It is a must read novel.
5/5 Stars!
Let me just clarify; there are a lot of BJs and references to BJs in this book, well more than I would normally encounter in a book anyway. But then again the title does kind of give that away.
This is the first time I have read a Gemma James book and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised.
Sadie Sawyer needs training in the art of giving the perfect BJ and who better to teach her than her best friends brother, Ashton Levine.
From the very beginning I pegged Sadie to be a pretty weak character as far as standing up to anyone goes. Personally I prefer my female leads to be sassy and independent and whilst Sadies character grows throughout the book, it took too long to actually reach that point and I spent far too much time being frustrated with her lack of standing up to anyone, especially her father.
Ashton is what I can only describe as the typical alpha male. I did like his character, especially due to the fact that he just wanted Sadie to be the strong woman he knows she can be. I wouldn’t necessarily say he had attributes that make him stand apart from any other book boyfriend, but he was definitely the most prominent character in the book for me.
Despite the issues I had with Sadie I did enjoy this book and look forward to reading more of Gemma James books in the future.
Swallow Me Whole is a hot friends to lovers romance. Sadie catches her latest boyfriend cheating on her with his assistant (yes, I know, cliche but it does happen. I know people, end of discussion). While drowning her sorrows with her best friends Mandy and Ashton, twin sister and brother, Sadie takes it upon herself to get under the table and get into Ashton’s pants while Mandy is at the bar. The two begin hooking up so that Ashton can help Sadie overcome her sexual inhibitions and teach her how to please a man. This new dynamic to their relationship opens them up to facets of themselves they didn’t know they were capable of. This was a fun, hot book to read.
Sadie and Ashton have been friends since they were kids along with Ashton’s twin sister Mandy. Sadie had a crush on Ash when she was younger but thinks she’s over that now, while Ashton has kept his distance thinking she’s out of his league. When Sadie discovers her boyfriend has been cheating on her, she decides to turn to Ashton to help. Who else can help the naive and innocent Sadie if not the king of one night stands Ashton Levine?
I adored Ashton in Swallow Me Whole. I detested Corrine (I won’t be alone in this) and if I’m honest I struggled a bit with Sadie. She came across as a doormat with the way her ex and father treated her and I found it very infuriating that she didn’t stand up for herself sooner.
Overall I enjoyed Swallow Me Whole. If you’re looking for a sweet, friends to more romance, this could be the book for you.
Swallow Me Whole is my first novel by Gemma James and I really loved it. This friends to lovers story had it all, hot steamy scenes, romance, drama, angst and so much more.
The main characters were well developed and the secondary characters helps move the story along and provided balance and support to the lead.
Ashton and Sadie had intense chemistry from the moment their relationship status changed from friends to something more. Told in dual POV, the story will have you hooked until the end and leave you with a HEA ending.
I absolutely loved this book and I would highly recommend it.
While I absolutely loved this story and love that these two have been keeping hidden for each other I had a hard time really liking Sadie. She was a sweet innocent heroine but the way she let people walk all over her (ie her father and Jake) drove me absolutely insane! There were moments I wanted to reach through the book and smack some sense into her. Thank goodness she had Ashton there to back her up. Yeah he got into her space at times but I couldn’t even begin to imagine where she would be if she didn’t have him stepping in to make her see that she is worth something. And don’t even get me started on Corrine! The fact that her own sister said this isn’t the first time she’s done this makes you wonder about someone like that. Guys, get undeniable proof before you fall pray to evil women and allow them to destroy you and the people you love. This was a great book and I’m glad I read it! Loved these two characters and loved seeing them really fall in love! Glad Sadie took her life back starting with sliding under the table!
What happens when you have been friends forever and you’ve shelved any romantic feelings because the friend zone is in place? It happens more often than people want to admit. Let’s face it, the last F in BFF doesn’t stand for a dirty word. Relationships are hard work with messy feelings and friends are there to help us clean up and listen to everything we have to endure. So in Swallow Me Whole the underlying theme of friends to lovers is never far from either characters mind. Is it really worth risking years of friendship to potentially cross that line? Once that line is breached you really can’t go back.
Sadie and Ashton have been friends since grade school, along with Ashton’s twin sister Mandy. When Sadie finds her boyfriend cheating on her, in a rash decision, Sadie makes a move on her long time friend Ashton. Opening “Pandora’s Box” neither of them are willing to close the lid, yet Sadie is wise enough to include a few rules, hoping that her heart doesn’t get too invested.
Since Sadie has been friends with Ashton for so long, she knows he’s something of a player and she doesn’t want to be another girl in his long line of itches to scratch.
Once Sadie makes her intentions known to Ashton, it’s full throttle for him. He’s been in love with her for a long time. He’s willing to play by her rules, for now, but he has his own game plan to win her over and eventually make her his.
Swallow Me Whole is filled with lots of steamy hot goodness and lots of tender moments. If summer wasn’t hot enough already this will ensure that you feel the heat.
Whew! This book brings sexy to a whole new level! I loved it! Ashton and Sadie were explosive! This is a very sensual friends to lovers romance, so much love and care pours from these characters. Sadie gets drunk and does something that changes their friendship forever. Ashton agrees to be Sadie’s teacher, shouldn’t be too risky they set up 3 rules… This book was an awesome combination of cute and erotic. A deliciously slow burn! There is a surprising fact you get a few chapters in about a character and I loved it! It was unexpected but I feel like it make the whole book that much more interesting. I hated Sadie’s ex and Ashton’s past, are these two character going to make it? You will have to find out! I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Luke and Natalia were not your usual couple. Not the instant love for them. Both were attached to each but neither would say it. I loved to see how they became friends and them moved to more. Luke was more than he appeared to be that’s for sure.
This friendship between Natalia and Sam has got to be one of my flavor friendships in a book. They are honest and at time harsh with each other but it’s a true friendship. One where they tell each other like it is because they care so much.
Amount of sex 3 / 5
How explicit 3 / 5
Amount of BDSM/Fetish 1 / 5
Story 4 / 5
Overall: 4 / 5
I just love Gemma James! I started Swallow Me Whole without knowing much about the story. Seeing the cover and the name of the book was enough to know this would be another fabulous one. I have read many of Ms. James’ darker and erotic romances, and this story was more on the softer side for her. The story did contain spanking, hair pulling, and handcuffs, although it was milder BDSM read.
In this story, Sadie’s family is well off, and her father is very commanding. Even though Sadie is in her twenties, he expects her to follow all of his rules, which includes who she can date. Unfortunately, Sadie is a pushover and unable to stand up to her dad.
Sadie also has difficulty being intimate, which I assume has to do with her father issues. Wanting to learn, she asked her best friend’s twin brother Ashton. Many of the sex scenes were pretty hot, even though there was no kissing or sex while Ash was teaching her. The story also had some twists, which made the story suspenseful.
I enjoyed the story although I did miss the extra spice that usually is in Ms. James’ stories.

4.5 Sexy hot!
I shouldn’t be surprised with the degree o hotness of this book because the blurb should have clued me in, but holy hotness, there should be a warning on this one!!! From the first chapter until the very last, you’ll never want for “action”! So, turn your A/Cs into high, and get ready for the lesson of your life!
I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher to review for Stephanie’s Book Reports.

This is the story of Sadie and Ashton. Sadie is twenty three years old and still a virgin. She just freezes up and can’t do anything with a guy. One night when she finds her boyfriend that his dad hand picked by the way, with his assistant down on her knees she snaps. Drunk is what she needs to be and that makes her brave. But she is with her best friends. However she has always had an attraction to her best friends twin Ashton. They have been friends forever and now that she has a ton of liquor in her system she want to be like her ex’s assistant. Able to give pleasure like a naughty girl. Fast forward and Ashton and Sawyer make an agreement. He is going to help her learn how to blow a man mind with her mouth and she just has three simple rules. No kissing. No sex. No falling in love. This is Ashton’s chance as he has never had a serious relationship but he knows that Sawyer could be the one to change all that. Can they survive his past and her dad and the way Sawyer will not stand up to him. I loved this book. It is so much fun to read. Ashton is just perfection and I loved Sawyer too. However I did have moments where I was all girl, stick up for yourself. Don’t let you dad do that to you. You guys are going to love this book. There is nothing better than a good friends to lovers book and this is one of the bet one’s I have ever read.
A hell of a great friends-to-lovers romance that put a new incredible spin on this genre! Nothing makes me feel better than a romance that can take me away and forget about real life for a while and make me both laugh and swoon. And Swallow Me Whole did a spectacular job on that aspect!
I LOVED both Sadie and Ashton. These characters are well defined and lovable..that’s right, not just likable, but lovable! They may have been friends for a while but when things get changed up, I enjoyed watching the sparks fly and the passion and love bloom. It was magical and really fun. I want to read a whole lot more of Gemma James’s books!
Swallow Me Whole gets a DELIGHTFULLY ENTERTAINING FOUR AND A HALF SHOOTING STARS!
Love Swallow Me Whole. It’s a beautiful hot read. Ash and Sadi are beautiful together.
Favorite quote: Ashton ~ “If there’s such a thing as soulmates, of two halves that make up a whole, then Sadie is my destiny.”
Sometimes friends-to-lovers books can get tiresome. But not this book. It was fun and different and so dang sexy. I need some Ash in my life. Very well written, and didn’t lag at all. I liked it a lot and would definitely read this new-to-me author again!
4.5 stars! If you have read this author before and loved her darkness you will love her light! This story was so funny, warm, and steamy! Sadie and Ashton were amazing characters and a lot of fun to read. Their “adventures” were what kept me reading and I LOVED the dialogue.
They have been friends all their loves and had one of “those” relationships were they both wanted each other but neither decided to take the step. As an adult Sadie has never felt a connection to another man and decides that she needs Ashton to help her in her seduction skills. As you can guess things heat up and their antics made the story.
I loved their passion for each other and how they broke through their fears regarding relationships and each other. I could not have asked for more from this story or this author. I loved her darkness but she has convinced me that her light stories are just as amazing. I am going to want more in this world with some of the secondary characters I was introduced to here.
