This book is a wonderful start to a series that shows a great deal of promise. The plot is full of suspense and intrigue, the characters are portrayed beautifully, and have a very vexing problem to overcome. This book would suit all those that love clean historical romances that have a bit of mystery.
I am always looking for stories that are different from the usual within the genre. This book fits that condition. Susanna and Benedict are both being blackmailed into doing things they don’t want to do and don’t have anyone to confide in. When she arrives at his home for a house party things escalate and they each need to decide if they can share their secret. The characters are well developed avoiding a lot of the stereotypes I find in most Regency period tales. The suspense is well balanced with the romance and the story works well with both. It did seem a bit rushed near the end but otherwise a good read.

Fun Read
This was a fun read. Benedict, The Earl of Knightsbridge was being forced by anonymous letters into covering for smugglers. Fearing harm to his mother or himself he cooperated. Miss Susanna Millerton who stumbled upon one of the smugglers and was being forced to write the letters with threat of harm if she refused. Benedict’s mother had backed him into a corner insisting he host a house party in hopes of him finding a bride. Susanna’s father insisted she go in hopes of snaring a husband. And that’s where the fun begins.

Anger lead to sadness.
Benedict is receiving threatening notes this causes him to avoid the ton. The mystery is who is sending them. Susanna is a guest at the house party at the estate of the Earl but this lady has a secret that may cause a great deal of problems for her. Susanna is attracted to Benedict but she knows that once her secret is known it will lead only to despair for her. This was a quick story but a very good story. I felt for the characters as they dealt with the mystery working together to the end. The romance was sweet a lovely read. High marks for the short tale I highly recommend it. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
