In the aftermath of a deadly alien invasion, a band of survivors fights on… Australia’s Blue Mountains, he survived the invasion with only his dog Blue for company. For two years, he’s avoided the aliens and any survivors – he’s done his fighting and can’t go into battle again. But when a young woman crashes into his lonely existence, with the aliens hot on her heels, she changes everything…
Dak – Captain Dak Vaughn only has room for his job as head of security for Groom Lake Base. His focus has to be on keeping all the survivors alive, and not on the tough, attractive new recruit who gets under his skin. But when a dangerous mission requires them to go deep into alien territory, Dak finds himself up close and personal with a woman who is pure temptation.
Alexander – Marine engineer turned base leader, Alexander Erickson, leads a tiny base of survivors in the snowy climes of Norway. Balancing the needs and safety of his group keeps him busy, and he longs for someone to share the load, someone to call his own. The one independent woman he wants refuses to see him as anything more than a leader and a younger man. But when mysterious alien activity encroaches on their safety, they will join forces to investigate and Alexander might finally have his chance.

Nate:
Former Marine Nate Cadwell has been living off-grid in the Blue Mountains. For two years he has avoided the aliens and survivors, until a young woman comes crashing through his territory fleeing the aliens. Arianna “Ari” Matthews is finally free from the aliens and refuses to be captured again.
I really liked Nate and Ari’s story. It was so cute. Ari has been experimented on by the aliens but is still determined to survive and find happiness. She teaches Nate how to live again and not just survive. Nate was strong, protective and still struggling to cope with PTSD. I quite love these two and I really hope they show up more in the background of future books.
Also I need more Elle and Marcus scenes. They are still my faves!
Dak:
Captain Dak Vaughan has been attracted to Naomi Silver since he helped rescue her from the streets of Nevada. Both think the other hates them but after a sparring match and a few words they realize that’s not the case. Together these two go out on a mission to find the deadly bomb the Grizzida are building.
I really enjoyed this story. I really liked Naomi. She was a police officer and was determined to stop criminals, like her family. Once the invasion happened, she spent her time protecting any survivors she could. I loved how determined she was to do more than survive. She was going to seek her happiness in this life, and that was Dak.
I love that we are finally getting a story from a different survivor base. This one takes place at Groom Lake Base which is in Nevada, Area 51 to be exact. I really hope we get more short stories, or even a whole book, from the other bases. I really want to see how other teams are dealing with the Grizzida.
Alexander:
Liv Bergen lives with her pet wolf close to the Setermoen Military Base in Norway. After seeing a lot of alien activity near her house she makes the trip to the base to warn them, even if it means dealing with the sexy Alexander Erickson. Alexander Erickson has been trying to get Liv to see him as more than the younger man. A scouting trip with Liv makes them both realize how much they are meant to be with each other.
Yay, another base and new people. Well, somewhat new considering Alexander is Finn’s brother. I am loving these little short stories and I really want more. Alexander is a controlling and protective man who is trying to keep the whole base safe. I really loved his dedication to protecting his people and how he realizes he wants someone who sees the real him, not the leader. Liv is a strong, independent, kick ass woman who isn’t afraid of going it alone. I love her for that. She was perfect for Alexander because she saw past his role to the group and saw the real man, just like he saw the real woman.
I really wanted this book to be longer because I just can’t get enough of the survivors. I can’t wait for Tane’s book and to see them fight back against the aliens.
Fantastic read. Five Stars
This book of a collection of three stories is a fantastic read. I am not usually satisfied with one book having many stories but this one I loved. These stories are all different and set in various places in the world while still fighting the enemy to save the world. While keeping the same Hell
Squad drama.
Nate:
Nate is a loner; he had seen too many of his fellow marine’s male and female warriors cut short, even before the invasion that left him with PTSD being alone and separated from the blue mountain base is what suits him best. With Blue (a blue heeler) by his side, it may be lonely, but he is not alone. Until an unexpected visitor changes all that, and he finds himself questioning his willingness to stay apart from the rest of the world, and it is a rag tagged, humans still left to fight.
Dak:
Being at Groom Lake Base (Area – 51), was and is still an adjustment for Naomi Silver. She spent some time fighting with herself because of her past is hard to let others close to her. When she joins the group at Groom, it was with reservation of what others would do once they find out her past. Plus Dak, (Captian Tight Buns), by some, always seems to pick on her. Now they must work together for the greater good, will they both survive?
Alexander:
Liv Bergen lives in Bardu, north of Norway, above the arctic circle, and that is just fine with her. The cold seems to keep the invaders at bay most through the coldest part of the winter. She lives with a wolf name Freyja, and together they take care of each other. She lives a little ways away from Setermoen a Military Base that once was part of the Coalition and a god sent for when her supplies run low, or she needs a little human company. When a mission comes to light that only her expertise and eyes will do, she was more than willing to help despite Alexander’s protest.
These three stories give you a great perspective of how the other parts of the world are handling the invasion and how each community can help get rid of the invaders. All three stories are well worth the read to help you fill in the blanks on how the final book will come together.
4.5 Stars
Ariana Matthews has been a captive and test subject of the Gizzida for a long time, being held in different locations around Australia, and meets Nate Caldwell after escaping the prison where they kept her. The aliens are after her, because she has seen the location of a huge bomb they are working on that is designed to end the lives of every human, and turn them into Gizzida aliens. The bomb is located at the Blue Mountain Base, which used to house human survivors. Nate and Ari decide to leave his cabin and head to his backup safe place, once he discovers this fact.
Naomi Silver and Dak Vaughn are both security officers at Groom Lake Base in America. This base is a safe place for humans who have escaped the Gizzida invasion. Naomi is in training, and Dak is the head of the department. Dak sees her natural ability, coupled with her training as a former police officer in Las Vegas, and is harder on her to help her hone her skills. Naomi just sees him as a difficult man to please, and believes he has it in for her. They are tasked with locating the second of three bombs that the Gizzida are creating, and plan to detonate at 3 locations across the world. This bomb is believed to be somewhere at or near Hoover Dam.
Liv Bergen lives alone in a cabin in northern Norway. She ventures to Setermoen Military Base every month or so for supplies and to socialize a little. This base is also home to a lot of the human survivors from the Gizzida attack. Humans have had to band together to survive, and there aren’t that many of them left. Alexander Erickson is in charge of this base, and he is younger than Liv. When she observes lots of Gizzida activity near her home, she decides to let Alexander know about it. It turns out that she now knows the location of the third huge bomb that the Gizzida are creating.
In typical Anna Hackett style, the reader is caught up in this alien world that she has created. Her world-building skills are amazing. The reader can easily picture these creatures and the way they have decimated Earth and humanity. People are stripped of all but the essentials, and human survival is paramount, which leads to taking risks to do whatever can be done to thwart these aliens. It’s somewhat obvious that Ms. Hackett is finding a way to draw this series to a close. If the bombs detonate, humanity ends, but if the bombs can be destroyed, then the Gizzida lose.
It remains to be seen how she concludes this series, but it will probably be exciting and filled with characters from prior books in the series. There will be daring action, feats of bravery, risk, and an appreciation for the gift of life and love. Wow. Just wow! From a reader who wasn’t a huge science fiction fan, Ms. Hackett has me hooked!
This was mostly just an okay. I felt the stories were way too short to really get to know the characters. I liked the stories. I just think they could have used more to them
L
“Survivors (Hell Squad Book #19) set has three page-turner stories with tough sultry protective males and strong sexy females. Each story features awesome character interaction, witty flirty innuendos, phenomenal vivid scene descriptions, evil aliens, heart-tugging moments, suspense, action, life-threatening issues, sizzling passionate romances, and three happy forever endings.
NATE: Nate and his loyal dog Blue have been living off the land in Australia’s Blue Mountains. He has been able to avoid the wrath of the aliens trying to destroy humanity. Ariana Matthews is running for her life to escape the clutches of the aliens they call Gizzida. She is lucky enough to crash into the arms of a big-strong hunk.
DAK: Captain Dak Vaughn has a lot on his plate. Being head of security of the Groom Lake Base is not an easy task. He has no time for commitments of the heart. Naomi Silver is a new recruit in training to join Dak’s security team. Dak is spiraling out of control with unwanted fiery desires for Naomi.
ALEXANDER: Liv Bergen enjoys her independent lone life in her cabin with her wolf Freyja. Alexander Erickson leads a small survivor base in Norway. He has been trying to get Liv to leave her cabin and move to the safety of the base. Alexander loves when Liv comes to get supplies for her home. He craves to touch and be with her but she feels their age difference is an obstacle.
Spectacular thrilling entertaining storylines with praiseworthy characters. The romances are convincing. The author does a fabulous job showing why you should take a chance on true love when it happens. I relished all of these stories and look forward to reading more by this author. {I received a pre-release copy of this book via the author and reviewed on a volunteer basis.}
I have to say, I will be sorry to see this series end. ‘Survivors’ is the second to the last book in the Hell Squad series and it is a must read. Not only because of the stories, which are great, but these tales are a integral part of the story line, This is a group of three novellas that introduce the reader to other parts of the world of the Gizzida apocalypse and are tied directly to the final book. I love the characters in each of the tales – all showing the grit and intelligence that all of Ms. Hackett’s characters exhibit and the action that you come to expect in her books
Aiming to annihilate the human race once and for all, the Gizzida were honing their ultimate weapon. But the Enclave base was not alone in the fight and survivors from different locations have joined efforts to the search risking their lives, because this could be the end of Humanity. The book’s blurb described them and what they were focused in. Each one of their virtually ‘on dead’s arms’ adventures, was exciting with lot of action, suspense, intriguing situations, violence, romance and passion. We are near the end of the series and I’m eagerly waiting for Tane Rahia and Selene because I’m sure they are going to be a blast against the Gizzida. I enjoyed this book.
I enjoyed reading this three books in one, part of the He’ll Squad series. The interaction and chemistry between the characters is wonderful, and the storylines were entertaining and action packed. I can’t wait for the next book. I received this book as a FREE ARC copy to read and I voluntarily leave this review.
Three short stories that take the reader to different places but all are still at the not so tender mercies of the invading Gizzida. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this series but giving readers stories set in the US and Norway as well as Australia really helped bring home just how invasive these aliens have been. As usual the author gives us strong and yet sometimes damaged characters to cheer for and even a wolf in one story . However she still manages to pack in romance coupled with danger as the insidious plans for surviving humanity are fully revealed . Fear not though because this series isn’t quite over and those who are fans like myself will be desperate for the final book featuring Tane , although it will be equally sad to leave all these amazing, plucky, brave and downright sexy characters behind. Start with Marcus and enjoy the journey !
This voluntary take is of an advanced copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
Big things are happening!
An excellent, quick peek at survivors in different parts of the world who play a part in locating the source of the Gizzidas’ next deadly attack. All three encounters are very exciting, leaving me anticipating what might happen next. Will our survivors succeed in their mission? We’ll have to wait and see! Very thrilling reading, appealing characters, a vital mission to accomplish, and hot romance for our intrepid couples!
This is a great read! Three storylines in one book. It starts out tame enough with a man and his dog. But when they are in the middle of an alien invasion nothing is tame. The twisted animals they deal with are things you find in nightmares. But the stories abound with heart and strength. Great ending! I received an advanced copy of this book and freely leave this honest review.
This book has three exciting stories that set the stage for the final battle against the alien invaders. Each story is amazing all by itself, with a sexy hero will to die to protect others and a strong female willing to do whatever it takes to win the fight against the aliens. These stories aren’t extra fluff, but rather wonderful and essential parts of the Hell Squad series.
