Complete novel that can stand alone.Ex-SEAL and US Coast Guard aviation rescue swimmer Marcus Holt has never lost a victim to the frigid waters of Alaska until a rescue spirals out of control, and he loses a man he loved like a father. When the dead man’s sexy daughter—a former assistant district attorney from New York—blows into Sitka asking questions, Marcus admits she may just have a case to … a case to sue him. Too many things went wrong out there. And he can’t remember a thing. Nicole Manning isn’t staying in Alaska long. She’s determined to find her estranged father’s secret accounts and correct the crimes he committed before he died. After that it’s back to New York to pick up her broken pieces. But she isn’t prepared for the rough-and-tough USCG swimmer who heads her off at every turn and makes her rethink…everything. Marcus stubbornly demands to take the blame for her dad’s death in order to protect the air crew. His strength and big heart tempt her to deviate from her get-out-of-Sitka-fast plans. Because Marcus himself is a man in need of a rescue, and Nicole is impossibly tempted to jump in feet first.

Survivor Lost (Alaskan Guardsmen Book 1) by Kimberley Troutte is an exciting rescue story as well as a second chance romance that takes place in the harsh Alaskan environment. It is just not the first rescue attempt that comes to be or is most needed.
Action, romance, and mystery with two determined and stubborn characters make this a thrilling read from the very beginning when the call come in for the ill-fated mission. Nicole Manning and Marcus Holt must face their own demons to be able to turn their attraction into something more lasting.
This is an entertaining well-written story that I recommend to all fans of action romances. It is a great beginning to a thrilling series. Look forward to reading more of these brave US Coast Guard heroes. I purchased an anthology that contained this story. I am not sure if the anthology is still available but the novel is available on its own.

Survivor Lost by Kimberley Troutte is one heck of a wild ride from start to finish. I’ve read most of her SEAL Extreme Team books and I have to tell you that this book is even better. Well worth all five stars and many more if I could give them. Having grown up in a seaside town that had Coast Guard Rescue station the author put you right back in their shoes.
Nicole is a high powered lawyer with the NYC District attorney’s office who is trying to pick up the pieces of her life from the betrayal and scandal by her boyfriend and father. When she received a call from a bank in Sitka Alaska telling her that her father Carl had passed away from a heart attack and drowning. Oh and by the way did you know he had a extremely large bank account here? Once in Sitka she meets the wonderful people of the town plus Marcus the Coast Guard rescue swimmer who tried to rescue Carl. But she feels just as much guilt as Marcus for Carl’s death because her dad been accused of running a ponzi scheme in NY. Will she figure out why he has so much money and can she ease the minds of the Coast Guard crew who tried hard to rescue him?
Marcus was a former SEAL before he decided to become a Coast Guard rescue swimmer one of the most dangerous jobs in Alaska. When his crew is called to rescue Carl in a storm but he isn’t successful when the boat shifts and both Carl and Marcus lose their grip on the line. Marcus is left with a concussion and Carl drowns. He decides to take the blame for the death but his friends don’t agree. When he meets Nicole he tries to tell her what happened but the concussion becomes a brain bleed and he’s rushed to surgery. Nicole has fallen for him but they will have a long road while he recovers and she finds out that perhaps her father had a secret.
A great start to a great series. The plot was well-written and the characters were believable. I am looking forward to the next book.
