Mateo Morelli. The mere mention of his name is enough to strike fear into the hearts of grown men. The most ruthless crime lord in Chicago isn’t a man you dare cross. But when the second most feared crime lord shows up on my doorstep the night of my husband’s wake, he doesn’t give me much of a choice. My late husband owed Antonio Castellanos a lot of money, but the magnanimous boss is gonna do me a … magnanimous boss is gonna do me a solid—I get to pay my debt, and keep my daughter alive. All I have to do is one little favor.
That favor?
Seduce and kill Mateo Morelli.
*PLEASE NOTE: These are not standalone stories. Mateo’s story starts in Accidental Witness. If you don’t read that first, you won’t have the background you need on his character and you won’t follow his story very easily. **

Finished Accidental Witness yesterday, and Surviving Mateo today. And wow- am I loving Sam Mariano!
Mateo is… awful. Maddening. Terrifying. Unstable. Unpredictable. Controlling. Surprising.
This book really kept it moving for me. I hate it when a story lags in the middle. None of that here! I can’t wait to keep reading the Morelli series! I love the characters. And the person who disappeared during this book? I gotsta find out what happened to them!
After Accidental Witness I couldn’t imagine rooting for Mateo. He was just too awful. Unforgivable. Irredeemable. What he did was not excusable regardless of his intentions. That said, somehow, he softens in Surviving Mateo and I found myself rooting for the HEA. Not just for Meg, but surprisingly, for Mateo as well. Maybe because he is a damaged loose cannon, and perhaps she can reign in some of that volatility.
Can’t write anymore- gotta go read some more of this series!
Well this story took a turn I was NOT expecting and at first I was thrown and not sure what I thought about that plot twist, but Sam made it impossible not to get sucked back into the Morelli world and enjoy the ride, no matter what direction the story went. And I gotta say, I LOVED Mateo EVEN MORE in this book. We get to see a different side of him, but yet he doesn’t loose that ruthless, calculated, immoral quality that intrigued us from ACCIDENTLY WITNESS. He is very much still Chicago’s top crime lord. He’s magnetic, even when he’s being ruthless.
Much like a roller-coaster ride, once your strapped in, you have nothing to do but ride it out. I am strapped in and flying through these twirls and turns like my life depends on it…which with Mateo, it sort of is LOL. I consumed this book much like book 1. I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN! There seriously isn’t a “good” spot to stop. I just had to continue reading because I wanted to know how everything was going to unfold. Sam really does a phenomenal job of building this series up more and more. With each chapter and each character development, the layers are weaving together to build up to a crazy and twisted story and I can’t wait to jump into book 3 to see what else Sam has in store for this family.
“In everyone else’s book, I’m the villain. You look at me like I’m the hero.”
“You are my hero.”
*SWOON*
I literally do not want to give any details about this book because ANYTHING I say could be spoilery. Just trust me when I say, DON’T READ ANY REVIEWS and DON’T LOOK AT THE NEXT BOOKS IN THIS SERIES. Go into this series as blind possible. Trust Sam and her ability to keep you wanting more of this intense book world. Because once your a Morelli fan, you can’t walk away! ,i>*smirk* This series is definitely binge worthy!
5 stars
My goodness, after reading Accidental Witness, I knew I needed to find out more about Mateo. This book delivered!
Mateo is one man you never want to be on his bad side. You won’t survive…plain and simple.
When Meg is confronted by the family her deceased husband owed money to… She basically seals her deal with death.
What Meg didn’t count on was Mateo allowing her to live. Live she is allowed…. But under his ‘terms’. Mateo now has a new ‘maid’ to do as he pleases with, whenever he pleases, however he pleases.
Not only do feelings shift and a new place is set at the Sunday table, we find out the history of Mateo. What he went through to become the most ruthless crime lord in Chicago. What a story he has to tell!!!
Bring on the next book in this series!!!
Wait, what? THE Mateo, force of nature, magnetic, uber-bad boy meets his match? Yaaaaasss he did!!
Meg was such a fun character!! Her mouth, her spunk, and the twists and turns, just wow!! Mateo is like a game of chess, he’s always moving in different directions and you never know what he’s up to, so it is always an incredible reading experience with a character 10 steps ahead of everyone else. I also got to see more of characters that we’ll see in future books, along with a newbie at the end that melted my pages. It pushes the line deliciously and I ate up every word! I never saw any of that coming, but you don’t want to miss it!! I thank the Author for providing a copy to review and I can’t wait for more!!

Read enjoy obsess What can I say? Anything this author writes is phenomenal. This is the second book in a series of seven. Mateo is the villian but it’s good to be the bad guy sometimes (insert evil laugh here)
