I enjoyed the book BUT…it’s wordy in that the author goes into way too much detail on every outfit and room and the main characters every thought chasing round and round in her head. I did a lot of skimming because I really don’t care what they wore with only a few exceptions. The main action doesn’t happen until the last third of the book. STILL all that said, I rate this a solid 4; I love the characters and the world! Most of the questions I had while reading the previous books in the series have been answered. The ending was satisfying and put a smile on my face. I am grateful that Ms Nazarian likes to write without the characters use of the F-bomb, overly copious alcohol consumption , gratuitous sex scenes and all the other crap so many authors use as crutches. THANK YOU Vera! I look forward to more books in the Atlantis world.
I couldn’t get enough. Read the series straight through!!
Excellent book. This is book 4 in the series. Before buying this book get book one “Qualify” for free on Amazon. You will be hooked and will want to get the other books in the series.
So many things to love about this book — it had so many storylines from the previous 3 books to focus on, plus it took the original problem of the asteroid and comes up with a completely wild story for it, but it so well written that you just hang on for the crazy ride. Some of the technical, scientific parts require careful reading and rereading, but since I plan on reading it many times, as I have the other 3 in this series, I’ll get it eventually. You feel so many emotions — happy, sad, love, hate, anger, humor — it seems impossible that the same book could do do much, but Ms Nazarian weaves them sll together in such a way that it makes sense.
We don’t get all the answers, but there are promised novellas that will finish fleshing out some of our favorite characters. This is a fitting end to a beautifully written saga
Your books are otherworldly. Fantastic and inspirational writing. Well done!
Yet another stellar book by Vera. Was a great ending to the series. I have re-read this and all the others at least twice. They are worth it! The characters are great, the plot is interesting and the book keeps moving and keeps you interested.
I really liked this book. It is the last book in the series and each book was really good. The story is good, the characters are good, and the ending is very satisfying. I recommend the series but best if you start with book 1 “Qualify” and read them in order. Really good books – a little too technical for me sometimes – but the story is so good.
I have read all of the series at least 5-6 times. Sometimes I pop back to a favorite moment. I could probably edit her next novel 🙂
Really one of my favorite series, especially during the pandemic where I mostly read to try to feel better about everything.
The rich culture and amazing imagination of Vera N. are fantastic.
A great ending to a wonderful story
Arson and Gwen are wonderful characters that are trying to find their way into the world of Atlantada. I am so happy that they are finally together. Those of you wishing for a happy ending will find it her, although it takes a lot to get to that point. Great twists and turns. Read up. I’ve reread it several times, I find something new that I looked over.
Enjoy your reading! You will not be disappointed, Read the series, it is well worth it!
1077 pages! Okay, that’s just too much, and this book does tend to drag a little as Nazarian takes you through the details of a wedding in such exhaustive detail you almost want to skip over some of it. However, the storytelling is whimsical and entertaining, and even the minutiae of these parts is entertaining.
By this point, I had found myself really invested in the Gwen, the lead character, becoming the hero that saves both Earth and Atlantis, and Nazarian keeps you thinking she’s not going to play a very important part at all. She does manage to keep you guessing and throw in some interesting surprises along the way.
Being the fiery conclusion that it is, this is possibly the best book of the series. The storytelling is of the first order, the characters are well developed and compelling, and the action is wonderfully exciting.
No, Nazarian never does answer the question of why these supposedly evolved and morally superior people who won’t eve hunt for sport can be so cruel and violent to each other, but I’ve forgiven her for that. The Atlantean people are, overall, corrupt and selfish, and Gwen injects quite a bit of selflessness and compassion into their ethos. I do wish she’d made more of the fact that all but a few of Team Lark survived the stupid games and that an amazing 4 of the 10 champions were from Gwen’s team!–you can easily imagine this being a record of some sort and it tells a lot about Gwen’s leadership and commitment to her people. Along with that, something should’ve been said about the fact that 2 earthlings entered the games–out of thousands to begin the games–and exactly 2 both survived and WON their categories. That should’ve done something to humble the Atlanteans more than a bit. Still, the Atlanteans people do come to love and accept Gwen eventually, which is gratifying and delightful.
Yes, it’s too long, but it’s well worth getting through it, and I highly recommend it.
Loved the series, this being the last, had to see how things turned out for the main character . This book was quite long and somewhat over the top with explaining a scene or even a dress! But all in all, one of my favorite scifi type series.
The fourth and final book of the Atlantis Grail series was everything I hoped it would be. I loved all the descriptive elements, especially regarding the formal garments everyone wore for the wedding, as well as the wedding reception rituals. I don’t want to give too much away, so I’ll just say that there was just the right amount of drama, action, tension, and romance. Although I did come across some editing errors, they were too distracting. I would have liked a little more of the “happy ending,” but I imagine that could be a book in itself. There are few books or series of books I would read more than once. This series is definitely one of them.
Good end to a fantastic series.
A marvelous conclusion to a great book series. More new plot twists, great character development and true love story. I was hooked by the first book and like all the others, I couldn’t put this one down either.
Gwen is a terrific lead character that continues to grow throughout the series.
(I was given a copy for awards consideration).
There was, perhaps a good book inside Survive somewhere. The worldbuilding was clear enough that not having read the first three books was not an obstacle to understanding what’s going on. The lead, Gwenevere Lark, is an interesting character, and the family dynamics are well written. Some of the worldbuilding is good. Unfortunately, I can’t recommend this book for various reasons. Here’s a quick list of some of my problems:
That sex scene. I can’t with that sex scene. It managed to be completely clean…and still even more ultraviolet in prose than most of the erotica I read. Ahem.
Marrying the whiter than white colonial not-quite-human Emperor is a fine happy ending for your heroine. Eating meat is wrong.
The whiter than white colonial not-quite-human Emperor has a number of slightly beyond human abilities. They include, for no reason other than That Sex Scene, superior fertility and a complete lack of a refractory period. Yet it’s not actually erotica.
There was a clumsy attempt to be anti-colonial at the very end with a throwaway about the ancient human colonists taking the Mona Lisa. It didn’t really work.
It did not need to be 1,000 tablet pages. Few books need to be 1,000 tablet pages. This isn’t one of them. (In other words, it’s a bit bloated in places).
Too much for my *personal* taste in the arena of ancient astronaut type conspiracy theories, although at least the ancient astronauts are human. But people from ancient Egypt aren’t…blonde…ahem.
I was left with the vague feeling that the author may be one of Those Vegans.
It’s a shame, a major theme of the book is music as power and that usually hits the mark with me, but…no, I can’t recommend this one.
Excellent plotting!
