Most people joke about hearing voices in their heads. For Chloe Jeffries, they’re real. And as the creative force behind one of the most popular shows on television, she has used the constant flood of voices in her mind to her advantage: fuel for entertainment.
But now one of the voices has decided it wants Chloe all for itself.
Ex-Special Forces soldier Shane Westman just wants to make it back to Wyoming to begin to heal from the horrors of war. The last thing he needs, even as a favor for a good friend, is to take on bodyguard duty of a flighty television writer. But once he does, he realizes there are threats at play he doesn’t understand. And the woman who has somehow begun to thaw his frozen heart is in desperate danger from a menace they can’t see, but is always close.
The voice that will never allow Chloe to escape alive.

Janie always takes her readers on a heart pounding, mind racing, soul searching, passionate ride and this one is no exception. This one had me all over the place…Loved it!!!
I could understand these characters. I could see their minds. Feel their fears, discomforts. Anticipate the rise in threat, danger. Become consumed by the plot as it unfolded bit by bit with the bite of fear, murder, kidnapping, threats, and stalker. Pager turner for sure.
Chloe is kick ass. With a sailor mouth, pint size and energizer bunny attitude she was awesome as a heroine. And balanced the tall, cool, calm and collected operator and former ex special forces ranger Shane. Watching them tease and banter was funny and hot. Loved how he just accepted her and her voices and weirdness and didn’t need convincing like Connor and Brett did. He just knew the world was full of things unexplainable and he wouldn’t push her away just because he didn’t understand something. Loved them together. So great. Wow just wow with all the twists and turns fitting for a book about a tv show filled with drama. A stalker, a fake stalker, then a fanatical crazy on top. Jeez. Loved the book. !!
Just read again for the 4th+ time. This is a story that is both romantic and suspenseful. It just gets better each time I read it. Loved it. A fabulous read.
I really enjoyed all the books in the Instinct Series but this one was my favorite. I absolutely loved Chloe and Shane and this book rounded out the series and closed the circle for the sisters perfectly. I only wished that at the end of their story a little more insight was provided on the surprises and reactions shared. Crouch nailed the characters on this one perfectly. Most couples in stories fit over time throughout the tale but with Chloe and Shane their characters were so similar in almost every way from the start that the push-pull of their interactions and conversations and the sizzling heat of their attraction were perfect. I enjoyed their dialogue and the build up to their relationship. The danger, suspense, mystery, and action were consistent through the story and I liked that the events happening and clues kept shifting the possibilities of who the stalker was up until the end. There were a few twists I did not see coming but thoroughly enjoyed. I really loved the reunion of the sisters and their husbands at the end and all the surprises they shared.
Action packed. One persons crazy is another persons super power in this read. Intrigue on a TV set, with so may conundrums to solve.
I had just finished Critical Instinct and had to just jumped right into this one. We learn a little bit about what Chloe’s special gift was in the previous book and it intrigued me. Chloe is able to use her ability of hearing voices to assist with her writing plotlines for a popular paranormal tv show. She’s learned to tune out the mass amount of voices around her but unfortunately there is one that causes tremendous pain and possibly may be ready to really hurt someone. On top of that, the crew may have a stalker on the loose. This is where Shane Westman comes into play. He is currently in the area and was asked to look into the security around the set. He wasn’t too keen on this babysitting job, but agrees.
What was really fun was I had also just finished the first two books in the Tactical series and found that Shane was just hired on as a member of that team. I loved Shane’s character, he was one of those broody ex-military man with a very strong protective streak. My heart broke for him though, he had lost his entire team a few years prior in combat and was left by his girlfriend for being too cold. This was his coping mechanism in the military, being able to make the tough decisions and get the job done. Unfortunately he was not able to turn that off in his civilian life. This is where we find how Chloe and Shane are just meant to be. Shane’s cold is what calms Chloe’s painful episodes with the one she named Conversation Hearts. As the story goes along, more threats are occurring and Chloe and Shane’s feelings are tested. We definitely go through some twists and turns in this story and keeps you guessing.
I loved the chemistry between these two. Chloe was a hoot! She was a complete control freak with a mouth on her. There were quite a few amusing scenes and some very steamy scenes. I loved Shane’s little nicknames for Chloe, they were so cute!
All in all another great book in this series. The epilogue was so sweet and a perfect ending.
Loved this! Devoured it. Great mix of hometown feel, intrigue and a touch of otherworldly fun. Great pacing and sucked me into the action. Downloaded the rest of the trilogy as well…
