Mellie:Mellie has been hypnotized by a pair of gorgeous green eyes, attached to a very yummy package for months now. Unfortunately for her, her brain goes on hiatus anytime Morris Jackson is around. Looking like a bobble head whenever he asks her anything isn’t the best way to go about getting a man like him interested. Not like ruggedly handsome men go for quirky, accident prone introverts like … prone introverts like her. Plus, even if she did have a snowballs chance in hell with him, him being her brothers SWAT teammate doesn’t bode well for her. A girl can dream though!
Morris:
Those blue eyes sucker punched him the minute he looked into them. It felt like the ground had literally gone out from under him. Mellie is everything that he could ever want and everything that he shouldn’t have. Even if he didn’t know that she’s too good for a guy like him, her brother would never be okay with it. He is over protective and proud of it. But at some point you have to say screw the consequences and go after what you know is meant to be yours.
Too bad someone wasn’t happy for them when the found their way to one another. Someone will make sure they don’t stay together by any means necessary. They’ll even kill to get what they want.

This was enjoyable read. Mellie has fallen hard for her brother Marc’s SWAT teammate Morris. Morris likewise has fallen for Mellie. When they get together, the chemistry between leaps out at you. Much of the book follows the pair as their relationship develops, with Mellie bumbling her way along, which only serves to make Morris love her all the more. There is however the issue of who is sending Mellie black roses. Mellie knows it’s not Morris or her brother Marc, she doesn’t even like roses and is finding this scary. Even with their connections Morris, Marc and the team can’t track down who is doing this. Events take on a sinister twist, when first Mellie’s shop is ransacked, then her car is vandalised and finally a threatening note is sent with the latest bunch of roses. Can they find who is doing this before anyone gets hurt? If your looking at this book as a good romance or hot alpha males then absolutely go for it, but if your looking for SWAT action in with your romance then this is a bit thin on ground.
This was a good read. I love the guys antics with each other when they were all together.
I have to start off saying this book had some great potential with story line and characters. Mellie is kind of a hot mess that you love. She can be so awkward but it just makes you chuckle. Morris is simply swoon worthy!
The reason I am giving 3 stars is for a few reason. #1 there are some serious plot holes. The story seems to jump around quite a bit, but often leaving out some key pieces. I won’t go into spoilers but some huge holes towards the end. I love Suspense and Romance, but something was lacking there. Often was too big of a swing one way or the other. #2 the grammar and editing was rough. Tenses would get flopped a few times and there was a lot of typos or spelling errors.
I see a lot of potential here with this author and she has paved the way for more books. I will continue to read the SWAT guys and hope it reads a little better.
I would’ve given this book four stars, if not for the multitude of editing issues. Incorrect words (think “your” instead of “you’re”), punctuation missing or existing where it shouldn’t, and outright tense changes within a chapter really took away from my ability to throughly enjoy the story.
Outside of the desperate need for a better editor, this was a pretty good book. Mel and Morris have awkwardly danced around each other for months and finally connect, with the encouragement and stamp of approval from her brother (Morris’s coworker and friend). There is some suspense to go along with their romance and the author did a pretty good job of keeping the reader guessing until about who was behind the danger until around halfway through the story. Some parts seemed a tad rushed, but I think that may have been more to keep the reader engaged than anything else. I’ll glady give the next book in the series a chance because I can definitely see potential in this author.
*Spoilers*
It started out kind of slow, which made it hard to get into it, but it wasn’t bad. I don’t know if it was just me, but I felt Morris was kind of soft for someone who was a Seal and is a SWAT officer. Mel was sweetly quirky, even reminding me a lot of myself, but I just couldn’t love it like I wanted to.
The crazy stalker, who I guessed as soon as the messages with the roses started, made it more interesting than it would’ve been as a straight love story. I did love the interaction between Mark and Mellie though. It was pretty funny and had me cracking up a few times.
!!!! *SERIOUS SPOILERS* !!!!
The one issue I found is that it never stated how they found the two when they were kidnapped. There was no explanation whatsoever, which is a big thing to miss if I missed it, but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t there… I hate plot holes.
I don’t know what it was, but I just wasn’t blown away.
