While mythology may label he and his kind as monsters, this alpha male shapeshifter is simply a man with needs.

Doomed to an immortal life deep in the ocean, their only chance at salvation is to rescue damsels in distress from the surface world and bring them into the abyss. Surrender to the Sea is book 4 in the Lords of the Abyss series that features mermen from the fabled Atlantis (Atlantes here) and their journey to redemption and love. The books can technically be read as standalones, though you’ll miss a bit of the surrounding story. Mrs. Pillow does a good job of catching you up, however, so if you’re starting here you won’t be lost. The book is written in third person omniscient and from both characters’ perspectives.
Honestly, I believe this was my favorite book in the series. Brutus and Laurel really just felt natural and sweet. There was plenty of steam, a bit of confusion and such (amusingly, Brutus was far more lost than the human in another realm, poor dear), but overall the romance in this romance shone very brightly. We have a few more incidents with the evil mermaid cult, but otherwise this was mostly their adventure.
If you like your romance with mermen, lots of steam, dangerous mermaids, ancient curses, and a smidge of adventure, this is a great book for you!
The books seem to be getting shorter. Not sure why, and they are still great, but there is a lot less character development now. I was wondering where this series would go because all the rescued women had gotten their own books, but now we have a new one, and there is more drama happening with the Olympians I’m looking forward to seeing more of in the next book!
great read
This was another favorite for me. I just love this series. I think it’s my favorite by Michelle. Brutus is such a giant warrior, but being faced with Laurel after her rescue at sea, he is almost speechless and of course, everything he says comes out all wrong. This only causes her more panic. I laughed so hard at this story. I was wondering how Laurel would do the turning into a mermaid. I loved how the author used a unique way in bringing that about. If you like audiobooks, the narrator for this one is so wonderful. It made it even more real.
Surrender to the Sea is the 4th novel in this fun world full of Mer people!
This series is a fun, light read and very funny at times and just a bit steamy. I really enjoyed Laurel and Brutus’ story and can’t wait for more in this world.
Audio narration is very well done and enjoyable to listen to also!
This book follows Brutus who saves Laurel and as he tries to be honest about where she is he proceeds in frightening her. When there’s an attack on the dome Laurel knows she has to transform and go to help Brutus . The story carries through from book 1 where the psychotic queen and her crazy followers are trying to overthrow the dome and the king and I can’t wait until someone ends the queen and her crazies .
This book has a completely different take on the damsel in distress! While the other female characters have not been pushovers this book is filled with much more girl power then the others. Quick paced and fun to read!
Once again Michelle M. Pillow has provided us with well written, endearing characters and an engaging story line. Rebecca Cook brought this story to life and made this book not only a joy to read but to listen to as well.
I received a copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
Enjoyable and hilarious at times. It was a light read and different than the other books in this series. I enjoyed Laurel and how she thought she was in another country and constantly asking about the consulate office. It was funny because, us readers know exactly where she’s at.
I liked the connection between Laurel and Brutus. Their relationship seemed to flow with the story. It was believable to me. The narrator, Rebecca Cook does a wonderful job narrating the story. It was a quick and fast listen for me. I felt like this story was a novella since I finished it in a little over a hour but I found it a very enjoyable paranormal shifter romance story.
LOVE AND RECOMMEND THE SERIES.
Poor Brutus is all good intentions and bad delivery. I had to laugh at his attempts and I think you will too. I enjoyed seeing another strong woman join the community and her story. There are so so many opportunities for these stories to be expanded as there is so much more I would like to know, maybe an idea for the author in the future? Looking forward to book 5.
