One night of complete surrender is all it takes. Gareth Harris is Manchester United’s reclusive star defender. He has control over all aspects of his life. But a lifetime of supporting his siblings and filling in for an emotionally absent father has taken its toll. Sloan Montgomery is a clothing stylist whose world was turned upside down when she found herself pregnant and moving to Manchester … moving to Manchester with a man who was never supposed to be her forever. Now recently divorced and struggling with shared custody of her daughter, control is a fleeting concept for this American living in England.
Both Gareth and Sloan are in need of a release.
A moment in time where they can forget about their pasts and family pressures…and just…
…surrender.
No one could predict what happens when both of their defences are down.
Surrender is part one of the Final Harris Brother Duet and concludes with Dominate. This duet reads great on it’s own, but to maximize enjoyment, check out the first three brothers’ books in Challenge, Endurance, and Keeper

Amy Daws is a one-click author for me- I have loved her Harris Brothers series and have been looking forward to reading Gareth’s story- which is so important and big that it took 2 books (a duet) to tell the story! I knew that Gareth was quite a serious guy, and assumed his story would be serious and deep as well, but I was unprepared for the journey that Daws took me on. What an emotional roller coaster! Gareth made me swoon, Sloan’s story made me ache, and they were so good together! Absolutely just what each other needed. Be warned that this book, book 1 of the duet, ends on a major cliff hanger, but I think in the end it will all be worth the angst and waiting. Cannot wait to read Dominate, out August 2nd.
Wow…After finishing Surrender, I was literally speechless. This book has an entirely different feel than the other Harris Brother books. While I enjoyed and really liked the others, I completely fell in love with this book.
If you are new to the Harris Brothers, here’s a little recap. Four gorgeous Brits that are all football (soccer) players. Each has had their own book, Challenge-Camden, Endurance-Tanner, Keeper- Booker. We meet these gorgeous larger ham life characters in That One Moment, which follows their sister Vi.
Surrender is the oldest brothers book, Gareth. I’ve been most excited to read his book. He lives a few hours from him family, so is not there for day to day, but is not any less involved in their lives.
Gareth has been a mystery to me the entire series. I feel like I’ve been waiting so long for his book, and it was definitely worth the wait. You’ll see so many different sides to him, and it’s impossible not to love him.
You’ll cry, you’ll laugh. You will hurt and at the end you will be so damn angry at Amy! But I promise it will be so worth it! This is truly a book that you must read! If you haven’t read the previous books, it’s not problem. You can read this as a stand-alone but you will absolutely enjoy it and understand Gareth so much more if you read the other Harris Brother books!
I became a fan of Amy Daws from the moment I read Keeper, which is the third book in The Harris Brothers Series. You don’t actually need to read this series in order. I read Keeper first and I did not feel lost at all. I did go back and read the previous books because I simply can’t get enough of the Harris siblings! I love this family and I have enjoyed every single one of my reading escapes with them.
Gareth Harris has been a mystery this entire series. I wanted to know more about him from the moment I met him in this series. My heart broke for him and I wanted him to find somebody that would heal all of his emotional scars. He’s a superstar footballer for a Premier League football team. Sloan Montgomery is a clothing stylist that comes into his life and from the moment he meets her, he’s mesmerized. The only problem is that she’s married. He tries to keep his distance … Until one night of passion between them turns his world upside down.
If you are looking for your next unputdownable reading escape, Surrender is that book! It will leave you at the edge of your seat with a heart-stopping cliffhanger and you will cheer for the entire Harris family. I had a wonderful time on this reading journey with Sloan and Gareth. They are so hot together! The entire supporting cast of characters is amazing! These are the kind of characters that I want to find in the stories I read. The kind that linger with you for days after you have turned the last page to their book. If you have not read anything by Amy Daws yet, you’re seriously missing out! I can’t wait to see what happens in Dominate, which is releasing very soon!
I give, Surrender, by Amy Daws, 4.5 intense, sexy, passionate, page-turning stars!
Gareth Harris seems a little put out that there’s someone in the world that doesn’t seem to know him and isn’t impressed. He’s a temptation that just so happens to wear shorts when he’s on the job. Showing off what he’s got comes with the territory. Sloan Montgomery has just had her world turned upside down. She’s into fashion and is the one to go to if you need help in that direction. If it’s been a while since you were acquainted with the Harris family, this is a great way to get reacquainted.
I have loved this series right from the beginning. It’s been fun getting to know the Harris family. But I have to say that this story has to be the hottest one to date. There were times where I almost felt like I was seeing something I shouldn’t and should leave the room so they can carry on. But it was a temptation too hard to resist so like a ghost I’ll try to stay quiet in a corner and let them heat up my e-reader. Something else you’ll see here is the sense of family and how much the siblings love each other.
Gareth has some neighbors that caught my attention and I have to wonder if our author is going to continue with the soccer theme, ‘scuse me football theme, and we’ll see these neighbors at some point. Personally I’m not a fan but if I knew that if the Harris brothers were playing I might just change my mind. But getting back to the story at hand, I don’t know how I feel about the ending. I’m left hanging and antsy to get my hands on the next book to see what happens.
If you’ve followed the audio version of this series, like I have, you’ve come to love the narrators. I’ve listened to them enough that as I was reading this book, I could hear them reading to me at the same time. That’s one thing I’m not going to miss out on either. I’ve already added it to my wish list and I’m just waiting until I get my credit so I can get that in my library ASAP. I’m going to be sad once this series is over but I can’t wait to have a Harris Brothers binge.
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
I love, love, love this series and I’m swooning hard over the last of the Harris brothers. I am obsessed with this author’s stories and her outstanding writing. If it wasn’t for my love of Tanner I would think that she left the best for last. I always knew there was a different story to tell about Gareth. His distance from the family, physical and a little emotional, was a tease. He wasn’t an open book like the rest of this great family. Well, here’s his story and it’s beyond fabulous. So emotional, heartbreaking and beautiful. As his story unfolds you see behind the strong veil he always presents. Grab the tissues because there might be a tear or two. Family dynamics as its best. We got a glimpse of Sloan in a previous book and I had the feeling that she was the one. She has her secrets too. Gareth and Sloan are explosive and burns so hot I’m scorched! Talk about steamy and sexy. The usual panty-melting romance you expect from this author. There is so much feeling in this story that’s superbly written it had my heart twisted and aching. And the ending was beyond anything you could foresee. Simply brilliant. Bring on Dominate! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC.
Gareth Harris plays for Manchester United and is an all-star defender. He grew up with a professional soccer player father until his mom got sick and his dad gave up playing until he began to manage the careers of his four sons. Gareth has a difficult relationship and chooses to play for Manchester knowing how much it frustrates his father.
Sloan Montgomery knew her marriage wasn’t perfect but was still shocked to discover her husband cheating on her and subsequently asking for a divorce. Now she is struggling wih only having 50% custody of her daughter and needs some control of her life.
Sloan is Gareth’s clothing designer and although he knows nothing about her personal life, he knows she is hurting and offers her an outlet. Soon the two begin a physical relationship with the agreement that it be nothing more than sex with Sloan having control.
But what happens when secrets are revealed and one of them realizes they need more?
This book is so good although the cliffhanger leaves you in such an OMG state!!
I absolutely loved Gareth and want a guy like him in my life! He was so awesome with Sloan and let her get all of the control that she needed in her life. It broke my heart to learn more about his background and what he went through as a child, especially his last time with his mom. He was loyal and so amazing!!
Sloan was hurting so much from what happened with Callum and from everything that had happened in the past with Sophia. I was so mad at Callum and his mom for leaving Sloan in a bad place and not caring what happened with her. I understood why she needed to regain something back which she was able to do with Gareth!
The scenes between Sophia and Gareth were absolutely steamy and sizzling!! I loved how amazing he was with her and I loved how nervous she was with everything to begin with.
The twists and turns were awesome but my heart did break a few times for Gareth.
The end was such a shocker and I need the next book now!!!
Garreth is what you wanted and so much bloody more
This book has lived up to the hype and wait and then some! I have been waiting for this book for far too long after the first Harris Brothers book was released. Garreth is so much more than I thought he would be! OMG he is bloody brilliant! Yes there is a cliffy but WHO CARES the wait for dominate is minimal even though I am getting stabby waiting lol! Amy Daws is fantastic! I read the book and finally got the audio and DIED all over again! You cannot JUST read this book YOU NEED the audio in your life! Will Watt, Piper Goodeve, and Charlotte Cole are FANTASTIC!!! The words are amazing but the emotion you get when listening is on another level! NO REGRETS ONE CLICK this TODAY!
This is the first book in the Harris Brothers Series that I have read, and from my point of view you don’t really need to read the others but I do think that it will give more understanding to the family dynamics.
This book was full of twists and turns that you would not see coming. These twists really were great and had me wanting more of Gareth and Sloan. Oh, and with the way this book ended I am glad that there is more coming because HOLY CLIFFHANGER!!!!
The angst between these characters can be felt while you are reading and at times wanting to slap both because then maybe they would fight harder or even get over it all sooner. Sloan is trying to gain her footing again as a single mother with an ex that still can’t really let go. Gareth is one of the best football (soccer) players at Man U.
When the two of them get together sparks fly and not always in a good way. Will they be able to workout their difference or will it all end?
I am one of those women that really loves football so whenever a book is about that topic too, I just get even more excited about it. Surrender is the first part of the duet series that is Gareth’s story; we’ve met him in the other books and his book was one I really was waiting for to come out and it’s finally here! The Harris family really gets into your heart so that was another perk that we got some more of them into this book. The story ends in a cliffy and I seriously debated on throwing my kindle ‘cuz I just want to know what happens next…
Sloan’s marriage is coming to an end and with everything going on in the divorce, she just wants to spend most of her time with her daughter but her in-laws are a pain in the butt and trying everything to drain all the life out of her. But being a personal shopper for some celebrities and also taking care of her daughter, she tries to keep her head above water.
When she gets to know Gareth more, there’s this chemistry between them that somehow grows into something more but neither want a relationship. And when Gareth makes her an offer she can’t refuse, everything in their lives seems to be changing even more…
4.5 Stars
Amy Daws is a new author for me and I favorite one from now on; I loved the book!! I really love sports romance and this one is amazing!!
I need to start my review from the end! That cliffhanger killed me, seriously killed me. I needed a few moments to really comprehend what happen and how much cruel the author is for leaving us like that!
Gareth is loyal and loving despite the loss he experienced at a young age; he’s the most reserved from the Harris brothers. Sloan had her fair share in loss and heartbreak, so she can connect with Gareth in a very personal way. These two are seriously made for each other and I really loved their story! I seriously need the next book like now; I need to know how everything progresses!
After getting to know a little of the rest of the Harris brothers, I’m going to read their books as well!
5 STARS FOR SURRENDER!! Wow, what a phenomenal football story, I could not put this book down. Gareth and Sloan’s story touched my heart, I am still thinking of these two. This book has all the feels with lots of sexy times and fantastic characters. This was my first book by Amy Daws and I can’t wait to read more by her. I am dying right now, I need Part 2 of Gareth and Sloan’s story.
Hot, funny, touching and intense, the story kept me completely engaged
Book 4 in the Harris Brothers series, while there is the expected carryover from previous books, you don’t need to have read the other books in the series to enjoy this one (though the earlier books are well worth reading). As this is part of a duet, you should plan on reading book 5, however.
I’ve loved the Harris brothers from the beginning and I enjoyed touching base with the rest of the Harris clan in this book. I especially laughed at the sibling relationships (Violet about the three younger brothers: “They are a special brand of stupid.”). Since I have a weakness for strong, broody but vulnerable book boyfriends, I’ve been drooling a bit over Gareth from the start; as Sloan would put it, “…he’s like a delicious, tall, dark, and handsome bad boy dessert that’s the perfect blend of crunchy and creamy.” I loved how much he SAW Sloan, how supportive he is of his family and my heart broke at times for both Gareth and Sloan for all they went through. I definitely loved how they filled each other’s needs, like two puzzle pieces locking into place.
What makes this series standout for me is how the author tailors each book around the main characters; no writing by formula here, and like Gareth himself, this book is intense at times. Like that cliffhanger I completely did not see coming. I knew some kind of cliffhanger was coming, of course, but–wowser!
Hot, funny, touching and intense, the story kept me completely engaged right up to that ending. I’m very glad I don’t have to wait long before the next book, because now I have about a million questions that need to be answered, like now. 5+ stars

‘…in one of the darkest moments in my life, Gareth had the ability to reach inside of my body and prop me back up on my feet.’
It’s finally time for us to get inside the head of the eldest Harris sibling – the reclusive and mysterious Gareth Harris. If you’ve read the rest of the Harris Brothers series (which you totally should if you haven’t!) then you’ll know that up to now we’ve learned very little about Gareth. He’s the only one who doesn’t live in the same town as the rest of the family and he leads a very private life. So it was very exciting to finally get to know him! I will say, he wasn’t what I was expecting but I enjoyed the direction this story took. I won’t say what that direction was but I will say that it made sense given all he’s dealt with for so long. I thought Sloan was a great match for him. They had a very interesting and uncommon dynamic, but it totally worked for them. I also enjoyed seeing the rest of the Harris clan. Fans of the series know that there was one defining moment from their youth that has shaped each and every member of the family in very different ways. For all intents and purposes, Gareth was the one who held everyone together during that time so we really get to see how much he was affected by what happened. It’s very interesting and gives you a whole new understanding of the family. And let’s not forget the epic cliffhanger on this one! I had a few guesses as to what the cliffhanger might be as I was reading but I will say that what actually happened took me 100% by surprise. I really can’t wait for the finale to see what the heck is going to happen next!
‘She frees me of my complicated, stressful thoughts and gives me a sense of lightness I’ve never experienced in my life.’
This is one of the best books I have read this year! Gareth has always been the brooding brother that we didn’t know much about. In this book, you learn so much information that your heart actually aches at times. I honestly understood why he had the idiosyncrasies that he had.
Being the oldest child, he had to step up when his dad shut down. Grab the tissues because there are a few memories that had me in tears. When he realizes that Sloan is finally single and that she is breaking apart, he tries to find a way to help her.
Sloan is Gareth’s stylist, but when she finds out the truth about her husband, she is broken. She and Gareth come to an agreement and for all intents and purposes it seems to work. Can they keep to the agreement or are they doomed from the start?
I liked the push and pull off both characters. I understood the motivation behind each character. Don’t even get me started on the ending to this book. I absolutely can’t wait for the final book, Dominate, to see how this wonderful series ends.
What to say about Surrender- so much to say. Amy Daws has delivered an amazing story about Gareth and Sloan and I want Dominate right now. Gareth is misunderstood in the first 3 books of the series but wow- just wow- do we get to see what he has gone through and why he is the way he is. Sloan has got so many issues herself but together- hot, hot, hot! And not just hot- but powerful, intense, heartwarming all at once!
The complexity in both of these characters keeps you turning the pages, needing tissues, wanting so much more, I couldn’t read fast enough. It keeps you wondering what is going to happen next for the characters- and yes- the end…. That makes us wait for Dominate!
The Harris family is wonderfully written into the book with all the laughter, support you expect, and now an understanding of Gareth. I always loved Tanner but Gareth is now my new favorite brother!
Sigh… and now we wait for Dominate! Counting down the days for the closure of this family! Thank you Amy for all the feels you give to the readers!
I have been waiting for Gareth’s book since the first Book in the Harris brother series came out and it is more than i could have ever dreamed of!! This story is so captivating, i couldn’t put it down and now i am slowly dying inside waiting for book two!
Gareth Harris is the star defender for Manchester United, he is different from the rest of the Harris brothers, he leads a quiet life outside of Manchester away from the fame and stardom his position on the team grants him. He feels deeper and has more emotional damage from the loss of his mother then his brothers.
Sloan is a celebrity stylist living in England with her husband and young daughter. When her marriage ends badly, she finds herself free for the first time in a long time. Her marriage wasn’t a happy one and her ex is forcing shared custody of their daughter so she finds herself in a depression spiral on the weeks she has to live without her daughter, she finds herself passing time with her favorite Client Gareth Harris.
What starts off as a friends with benefits situation between Sloan and Gareth quickly turns into more as the both explore a deeper connection between them.
There is a cliffhanger, but don’t worry book two come out in just a couple short weeks!
Holy Moly what a read!!! I urge you, which seems a bit ridiculous seeing as i’m sat here writing a review. But please go in blind!! I’m really hoping that if you do read reviews that the ones you read are spoiler free. Because even though we knew there was going to be a cliffhanger, there is so much more to this story that i never saw coming!!!!!!
This story was so unexpected and Amy Daws completely kick it out of the park. With great writing and a spanktastic storyline.
Gareth has always come across as the silent, standoffish type. But he’s always the one that people turn to as their strength. Weather it’s in helping his sister or brothers or as the team captain he takes the responsibility on as his.
Which is why i loved that we got glimpses into his past. To show us why he is the way he is, and at times it was quite heartbreaking to read.
Sloan was such a strong character, going through a tough divorce. Navigating life as a working single mum wasn’t easy. But she does it with strength and grace, when she’s secretly screaming inside. Giving Gareth his perfect match balancing out each others needs.
I loved how this story played out, Gareth and Sloan gave us so much more depth within their story. Don’t worry we still get the famous Amy Daws humour, just a whole lot more along side with it.
Now all thats left to say in this halftime is bring on Dominate and let me see how this story plays out! in the second half!!!
Hold onto your soccer balls because Surrender was a whirlwind. Sexy and dramatic and wonderfully unexpected. Amy Daws took sexy to another level writing the oldest Harris brother.
I really liked Gareth. Often times his silence spoke louder than his words. He was a very private man so I really enjoyed uncovering some of the things he kept hidden- even from his teammates and family. Some of the flashbacks made my eyes misty. But it was his time with Sloan that really showed another side to him. The side that wanted to let it go. Thank goodness he found the balance to that in Sloan.
And bless Sloan. That woman had been through more than her fair share of hardships. She was a fighter and a survivor that’s for sure. I liked seeing her find herself. Find the confidence that life’s harshness took out of her. She had Gareth to thank for that.
Gah! These two were so well suited for each other. And just when they’re starting to come to terms with their feelings BAM! Holy jaw on the floor- what just happened twist! I NEED the next book- now please.
“Sometimes when you love someone too much, your heart is louder than your head.”
WooooooooooW!!!!!!!
I’m so mad at this author right now because I always loved Tanner Harris. Nothing was going to change my mind. He was hot, funny and just man!
But Dammmmm big brother Harris did it for me. I loved the difference of this book/story. Gareth is perfection wrapped up in a man that most of us haven’t seen before.
I loved the telling of his past and how he became the man of the present. Getting those flashbacks of his childhood broke me. Everything became a little clearer as to why Gareth is the way he is.
Gah, I just love Gareth and Sloan y’all! I believe them! I believe when they say something and I want more of them. I FEEL the connection 100%. There is no question about why they fall for each other.
I wish I could write more. I wish I could gush more. I had no idea who big brother was and I’m so thankful I was in the dark! It made this book so much better!!!! Us readers get let in on who Gareth Harris is beside the older brother of all those Harris kids. It’s amazing!!!!!!!!
This is my first book hangover of 2018 and the year is half way over! That’s HAS to tell you something.
Bring on Dominate and let me see how this story plays out! I NEED TO KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First, Holy Shit, I have a massive book hangover! Amy Daws has done it for sure – she has completely outdone herself with Surrender, book four in the Harris Brothers series! And let’s be perfectly clear, this wasn’t a book in the series, it’s the book! I love everything Amy Daws writes, but I am not going to lie, this book is hands down my FAVORITE book she has written and I haven’t even got to read the conclusion to the duet yet. Gareth’s book has literally left me in quite a state! The cliffhanger alone would have done it but from the first sentence through the last I could not put this book down for fear I was missing something! And I am… but right now that’s just the conclusion to the duet because I stay up until sunup to finish this absolutely Fantastic story! Now, it’s important to note that while Surrender was written as a duet, the book reads as a standalone, but I guarantee that you will be just as anxious for the second book as I currently am!
Amy Daws writes exceptionally good romance novels. I find that Daws stories are always well written, perfectly paced and have outstanding, memorable heroes and heroines. Another important fact is how undeniably HAWT her stories are – something that holds significant sway in modern day romances!!! Also, Daws has this incredible ability to layer just the right amounts of laughter and angst, which allows them to be predominately labeled as Contemporary or Sports Rom-Coms. Yet, while Surrender is most definitely a sports romance, it is missing more of the laugh out loud comedy that I found in the first three books of the series. But, make no mistake, there is absolutely nothing lacking in this book…. NOTHING!!! It is everything I have come to expect when I pick up a story written by Daws.
In place of the laugh out loud moments I experienced with the first three books of this series, I found a hotter and altogether more angsty story when Daws wrote the final Harris brother story. There is an intensity to the book that emulates Gareth’s own intensity. He is the oldest sibling and the surrogate parent to his siblings for a time in their lives while their father was absent and their mother was in the last stages of cancer. He was and is the glue that held his siblings together often and the one they go to with each and every issue that comes upon them. He is always the strong one and the one that has it all figured out. Or so everyone thinks, including Gareth. In Surrender, Gareth learns that there is a whole other side to him and he owes it all to Sloan Montgomery. Although, there is nothing lacking with any of the Harris brothers, Gareth completely stole my heart for all time. Now, lets talk about the heroine, because Sloan is seriously a rocking heroine. This woman has taken more allegorical beatings than any woman ever should and she comes out stronger and stronger… even though she doesn’t see this in herself. Her insecurities are ingrained and her self-worth in the toilet after a lifetime of being ‘less’ in someone’s eyes – first society’s and later her husband and Mother-in-Law. And suddenly Gareth finds a way to break through and give Sloan what she’s always been missing and its incredibly beautiful to see her literal transformation from duckling to swan. Now, Sloan makes her share of mistakes with Gareth, but I love the way she learns from them in the end… **huge sigh** I promise that you will fall just as deeply for Sloan as Gareth finds himself falling for her – cause I sure did and I can’t wait to see where Daws takes readers with these characters in the conclusion to the duet. Now, this review (or any I ever write) will never provide a spoiler but I simply cannot overlook the grand gesture… because it couldn’t have been MORE perfect to the characters than this one was! But that’s all I will stay on that matter.
There is so much more to this book than I can put into words, and soooo much I refuse to put into this review because you need to experience this book without reading spoilers from myself or anyone else who was lucky enough to already read the incredible journey that we undertook in Surrender. You also need to do yourself a HUGE favor and one click this book right this very second… Not only is this my favorite story by Amy Daws to date (and I literally own/have read every word she’s written) but there isn’t a single book you could buy that would refute any of my claims regarding how fantastic her books are!
