One night of complete surrender is all it takes. Gareth Harris is Manchester United’s reclusive star defender. He has control over all aspects of his life. But a lifetime of supporting his siblings and filling in for an emotionally absent father has taken its toll. Sloan Montgomery is a clothing stylist whose world was turned upside down when she found herself pregnant and moving to Manchester … moving to Manchester with a man who was never supposed to be her forever. Now recently divorced and struggling with shared custody of her daughter, control is a fleeting concept for this American living in England.
Both Gareth and Sloan are in need of a release.
A moment in time where they can forget about their pasts and family pressures…and just…
…surrender.
No one could predict what happens when both of their defences are down.
Surrender is part one of the Final Harris Brother Duet and concludes with Dominate. This duet reads great on it’s own, but to maximize enjoyment, check out the first three brothers’ books in Challenge, Endurance, and Keeper

I purchased a copy of the full length novel Surrender (Harris Brothers Book 4) aka Gareth Harris book 1 by Amy Daws and this review was given freely.
An emotion packed continuation of the Harris saga reverting back to the somewhat awkward first meeting between Gareth and the American transplant and personal stylist Sloan. Connecting with the scene of Sloan leaving Gareth’s house in book two, this book blends attraction to a married woman, dealing with sensory evoked memories, rebuilding your life after a child has cancer and a messy divorce with the rocky friends to lovers romance between Sloan and Gareth. Unfortunately just as everything seems to be working out, there is a violent cliffhanger.
Over 18 is recommended as this is a highly descriptive novel with frank language and bondage.
Yes Yes Yes !!!
This book was brilliant. I couldn’t put it down once I started it. I ‘ve been looking forward to Gareth’s book. He is so different to his other brothers so I was dying to know more about him. The Harris brothers have taken over my life the last few weeks and I luv it. This family are so great I luv them all. But Gareth is so much more he has been through some hard times which they all have but being the oldest Gareth has been through it all. And he has carried that with him since the day his mum died. It even happened before then but it got worse when he lost his mum his best friend. Gareth is the more broody of the brothers and it’s shows he doesn’t live in London he’s in Manchester where he lives alone and plays football for one of the best teams in England. There is so many layers to Gareth’s character and we get to know him so much better in this book but I still think there is still more to learn about him. It’s great that he is finally opening up and that’s thanks to Sloan.
Sloan is a great character as well. I really like her she has to deal with so much in this book to. She only starts learning stuff about herself after spending time with Gareth. These two characters need each other more than anything I think. Sloan has dealt with a lot her Ex is an arse her mother in law is a bitch, but then is her beautiful daughter how just makes her life so much better. But it gets even better when Gareth Harris finally makes his move and helps her feel like the woman she should.
These two together are so so hot. From the start the sexual chemistry is off the chart. I really like the storyline of you have read this series you know what the Harris brothers are like there so alpha. But Gareth is so much more yes there is a bit of alpha in him when it’s needed but when he lets his guard to to Sloan is amazing and makes me luv him so much more. They bring out the best in each other and it’s so cute it’s what they both need to be better people.
Now I have to address that ending OMG really I m so so glad I don’t have to wait for the last book cause I think I would of cried. I didn’t see it coming I knew something was goin to happen but nothing like that. I need to start the next book straight away. This book and series as had me hooked from the first page of the first book. I can’t recommend them enough if you haven’t read this series yet do you won’t be disappointed.
Surrender (Harris Brothers Book 4) by Amy Daws is a friends to lovers, contemporary, sports romance told in dual POV. Unlike the previous books, each featuring a different brother which can be read as standalones, Gareth’s story is a duet. Surrender is part one.
Famous, British footballer, Gareth, lives a very regimented life. Always in control, he never gets to just let go. Having assumed the responsibilities of raising his younger siblings at eight years old when his mother passed, it was a necessity to be in control in order to hold the family together after his father fell apart. Gareth’s disciplined lifestyle helped make him a great athlete, securing him a starting position with Manchester United at a young age, and eventually earning him the role of team captain.
American fashion stylist, Sloan, has been living in London with her husband and daughter. She first met Gareth working at a photo shoot where she impressed him by instinctively understanding his texture sensitivity. As a result, he hired her to be his personal shopper. A couple years have passed, and Sloan has recently gone through a nasty divorce resulting in 50/50 shared custody. She feels completely out of control.
As Gareth has the need to let go, and Sloan has the need for control, they enter into a sexual relationship with each other that fulfils these needs. It’s a friends with benefits arrangement meant to be purely sexual, but of course, things don’t always work out the way they are planned. Feelings have a way of complicating even the simplest plans.
I’m a big fan of the Harris Brothers books and really looked forward to Gareth’s story. I was a little disappointed because this book just didn’t grab me in the same way the others did and it took longer for me to become invested in the characters. That being said, I still enjoyed it overall. I thought it was a good start. It ended with quite the cliffhanger, which was expected as part one of a duet. Luckily, I already had part two and was able to jump in right away.
This is the first Amy Daws book I’ve just had the pleasure of enjoying.
I’ve just listened to this on audio and it was fabulous I’ve not read the others in the series but I will be going to click these to catch up with the rest of the family.
I swooned laughed & I have to say listening to Gareth struggling with events from he was a little boy floored me, listening to it made it feel so much more real (and Will on the audio for Gareth was brilliant)
Sloan and Gareth’s relationship is complicated what they want and what they need is suppose to separated, friends with benefits but when the lines start to blur and things become clearer, on one side….
it’s time to put the in the other half!
What is more important holding the power and keeping everything in or putting your heart on the line and surrendering?
Just clicked the audio for book 1,
Amy Daws you have a new fan xx
I’m dead. I have no words right now, but I press on! Why is there not a higher rating than 5 here?? This book is a 10+++++++++++++++++++. Let me start by saying I freakin’ LOVED the Harris Family since book 1. Through the series I have laughed, I have cried and I have swooned over Cam, Tanner, Booker, but holy hell. Nothing could prepare me for the absolute sexy, heartbreaking, glory that is GARETH HARRIS!! He has always been a bit of an enigma to me and I have been waiting for his book to get a glimpse into what makes this broody Harris tick. Welp, I got my answer after reading Surrender! SO much is revealed about this strong, mysterious man and I love him so much! In walks Sloan, the perfect yin to his yang and holy crap! I want to tell you all the delicious details as this one does end in a cliffy, but don’t worry Dominate releases on 7/27. I hate to say it, but Gareth might just be my favorite Harris brother to date! Amy Daws is brilliant and this book has all the feels!
Eek that ending! I’m so glad I waited so I can dive right into the next one. I’ll add more later but oooommmmggggg!
Loved Gareth. Not so much Sloan. I didn’t really buy her taking control. She was such a dishrag! Complaining about everyone else having control, then admitting she avoids conflict, which is giving others control! I got Gareth’s issues though. He just wanted to let go.
*Reviewing the Surrender and Dominate duet as one*
“You played it safe with your ex, but being with me requires you to be brave. And, for the first time in my life, I want someone by my side. Someone to share the stuff that I’ve kept bottled up for fucking years. I want that with you. I need you to know that I’m all in, Sloan.” Dominate
Amy Daws packed EVERY emotion into the Surrender and Dominate duet finale! I never want to say goodbye to a great series, but this duet gave me everything I could have hoped for and everything I never knew I wanted. Get your tissues ready for the emotional roller coaster of Gareth and Sloan’s story. Dreams, hope, heartbreak, healing, family, love, laughter and fun. And that crazy suspenseful OMG cliffhanger! Seriously you need to have both Surrender and Dominate ready to go – I couldn’t have survived had I not waited for them both to be released. It’s sweet, swoon-worthy (those Harris brothers), and incredibly sexy. It’s the perfect conclusion that will leave your heart full and so happy for all the Harris clan.
I have been a huge fan of this series and have been waiting for this book what seems like forever. Amy Daws has a way of writing about that Harris family with flare and appeal. I loved catching up with other characters and I do love Gareth but this book had moments where felt a bit let down. Gareth and Sloane are an awesome match but I felt as if Sloane wasn’t strong enough at times and I was a bit let down by that. The story and characters are still amazing but for me it had moments of brilliance and other moments that were just okay. It will not detract me however from reading Dominance which is the next book in this duet. I can’t wait to see what happens next, this book does end in a cliffhanger.
It’s not that often I read a soccer related story but let me tell you that this was so much more then that. Yes we have Gareth, who’s the teams defender and he’s more then popular as well as famous then we have his stylist Sloan who’s been quite the ordeal recently with her family. Seeing this woman take charge is nothing short of sexy and the way that Gareth shows her that there’s nothing wrong with that makes their story that much more intense. Page after page I couldn’t get enough and had to know what would happen next. Great book and highly recommend you grab your copy. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.
With MC’s that make you feel, angst that’s frustrating, passion that’s intense, and a cliffhanger that will leave your jaw hanging open…
The emotional angst is tangible. There’s so much to love and yearn for with these characters. And that cliffhanger?!?!?! I usually hate cliffhangers and avoid them like crazy but it’s so hard not to be wrapped up in this story. I’m hooked and cannot wait to read Dominate!
What an amazing first part of this duet!! I was completely surprised by this story and I can’t wait to jump into part 2!!!
Heartbreakingly good…but you must read Dominate now!
I finished this half of the duet and am giving myself a brief respite before I dig into Dominate. Sooo good! Gareth, so far, is all I hoped he’d be. Sloan is fantastic. The Harris family never disappoints. I admit to some sobbing, some smiles, a few laughs, some sighs, a lot of drooling, and one big shocked gasp…now I’m off to read Dominate.

his book was AH-MAZING.. I had been waiting for GARETH Harris since Book 1.. I knew he was the guy worth knowing.. And BOY, WAS THAT SO WORTH IT..
Gareth Harris has childhood issues. He was the one who was right there holding his mom’s hands while she died of cancer. He was always there taking care of his mom, his younger brothers and sisters and keeping everything together. All this has highly affected his life and shaped his world. He is the one that everyone goes to when they have problems. He always keeps everything in his life under control.
But in walks Sloan Montgomery and turns his world upside down. Sloan is the American who calls football “soccer”. And has not fit in. Her life is totally out of control. EVERY ASPECT OF IT. She is tired of not having any control of her own life because of so many issues that I won’t spoil for you. But, whenever she is with Gareth, she gets a little it of control and steadiness.
Gareth is such a sensitive guy. Quite Literally.. He is so sensitive that he can’t even wear harsh fabrics. He only wears the softest clothes. He is also very sensitive to Sloan and understands her. Both of them give each other what they need in the life. Gareth lets his control go, and gives it to Sloan. The Power dynamics in the book was so well explored by the author, the romance was such a breath of fresh air. And the story was very engaging. I had the best of time reading it and I couldn’t be more glad that we have a second book..
The only small complaint I had was with Sloan. I understand why she was so hesitant-ish, but man, Gareth has the patience of a saint. And the CLIFFY….WHAT THE HELL..NEED BOOK2 NOW..!!
Great experience reading this author for the first time and she may have single handedly changed my view for the good on sports romances. Gareth and Sloan are dynamic characters that are flawed, experimenting and likeable.
Author Amy Daws does an expert job of weaving a tale that is hard to put down and is filled with steamy interludes, engaging dialogue, bits of laugh out loud fun and a great story line. I can’t wait to dive into the next book and I am pretty sure I will go back and read the rest of this series.
Well Done!
Holy holy holy h**l!!! My mind is scrambled at the moment. This is PART 1 of Gareth’s story, and oh my gosh, it’s everything! Getting into Gareth’s head a bit gives you some insight into the intense broody footy and why he is the way he is. Though it’s just the tip of the iceberg I’m sure. But he definitely grabs & holds your heart. And Sloan is a complicated mix of talent, heart and insecurity. Together they balance, but nothing’s ever easy. PART 2 can’t get to my grabby hands fast enough (picture ‘the scream’ painting and you’ll get how I’m feeling right now!). If you’ve read any of the Harris brothers books, you definitely need this in your life. And if you haven’t, what are you waiting for?! Jump on this now and immerse yourself in all things Harris
Surrender by Amy Daws is a captivating and beautiful love story. I was intrigued by Gareth Harris’s story from the beginning of this series and Amy Daws does not disappoint. The emotion and angst and passion were just amazing. Gareth and Sloan are simply explosive together!
I’ve been waiting for Gareth Harris’ story, and he did not disappoint. He’s this perfect combination of sexy athlete and sweet nice guy with a dash of broodiness. Sloan is finding her footing as a single mom after divorce, and she and Gareth have an amazing connection and chemistry. Their love story is captivating and also unique. I love where Amy Daws is going with this storyline, and I can’t wait for Dominate. Full rec on USAT’s HEA soon.
ARC provided, but this review was voluntarily and honestly written.
This was my first Amy Daws book. Oh my god. The Harris brothers are hot..
I loved Gareth and Sloan’s story it was sexy, magical and down right amazing..
It kept me wanting more and I’m anxiously awaiting book two for them.
I loved the twists and how even though it was their story Gareth’s brothers and sister played a big part in this story as well.
I loved how Sloan realised her true potential and Gareth helped bring it out in her.
this is a story I won’t be forgetting anytime soon.
The depth of Gareth is intriguing and makes you fall in love with him even though his past still haunts him he’s a loveable guy that you just want to see happy.
I love a good sports story and this was no exception!
