But he’s mentoring my rockstar son.

“No falling in love.”
“It’s only seven days.”
He’s confident that he can help me rediscover myself both in and out of the bedroom, and I’m confident that he’s too arrogant for his own good.
And at the end of seven days, he swears he’ll walk out of my life the way he came into it.
The only problem is, the more I get to know him, the more I want to surrender the last pieces of my heart and beg him to stay.

I don’t even know what to say right now. I am in such aww. But I usually am, after reading one of Rachel’s books. This is the fourth book in the Seaside Pictures series. About Adrenaline, frontman, Drew. Drew has been in the previous books. He has demon’s. Thinking he doesn’t deserve happiness. He also has some fences to mend. But when Bronte comes across his path, he starts t think maybe he can be the man she needs him to be. Bronte is a single mom of three. Granted two are grown and out of the house. But with the help of her youngest, Amelia, Bronte’s teenage dreams start to come true. I love Drew’s sense of humor. And I love that Bronte is older than Drew. Can these two broken hearts come together to be whole? Can they become the not-so-family? Another definite must read.

This is the first book in this series that I have read and can truly say that this can be read as a standalone, but now I want to go and read the whole series. After reading this, you will too!
Surrender is the story of Drew and Bronte. Two more mature characters with life experience and wisdom that shapes them to the people they are.
Bronte is a single mom, she had her children early in life. She totally missed out on the fun and foibles of her teenage years because of motherhood. But she took to motherhood like a champ and raised some exceptional kiddos, with no help from an ex.
Drew…oh my swoon…he is determined to help Bronte get her groove back in any way possible. He is the epitome of a long term rock star that has changed his ways but feels like his baggage is his alone to carry. But Bronte wants to help him unpack all that negativity.
What once started as a short term relationship was beautiful to read as it became so much more! The dialogue was full of wit and heat and I couldn’t put this story down until the very end! Now I am going to go buy the rest of the series to see all the stories from the secondary characters in this one!
Rating:
Terrific Rockstar Romance!
This was a wonderful romance between a Rockstar and a mother who hasn’t had enough fun in her life. I really liked the fact that the heroine Bronte, had her first child at sixteen years old so she was really a grown up way too soon. She completely missed that fun part of life when you are young and having all the fun with little responsibility.
Along comes the Hero Drew Amherst, who is nearly the same age as her and has been a rockstar since he was young. Bronte actually had a huge crush on him when she was in high school and now her grown son is his protégée. Bronte’s son Braden was discovered by Drew and is now a rock star in his own right and has recently gotten married.
Bronte also has a daughter away at college and an teenage daughter, Amelia at home who had cancer. They are about to find out if the cancer has returned or is still in remission. Bronte’s ex husband never really loved her and was forced by his parents to marry her. So he cheated on her during their entire marriage and divorced her when the kids were young and is not a part of their lives.
Bronte is the kind of woman who has always had to rely on her self and has never really been in love and had someone love her back and want to take care of her. I see a lot of myself in her, since (aside from the child with cancer), I had basically the same background. Boy would I love a rockstar to start paying attention to me like Drew paid to Bronte.
Drew is a recovering drug addict and has been clean for over three years, but he is lonely. All of his band mates have been getting married and having young children and he is the only one who is still alone. He is also having a bit of writers block when he should be writing their next album.
He sees Bronte, whom he has been crushing on since he first met her. Braden is going on a belated honeymoon during the week of Bronte’s birthday so he asks Drew to watch over his Mom and take her out for a good time. Though both Drew and Bronte know that he is only in town for a week, Bronte agrees to go out with him during that week and try to let her worries go and have some fun for once in her life. What happens from there is a sweet and steamy week of fun, sun, horseback riding, picnics, hot kisses and more.
I also liked the fact that her daughter Amelia played a big part in the book. She was funny and her interactions with drew were priceless. I don’t always like books where the women are mothers because sometimes the children are just in the way of the story, but this one was great.
I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.
Surrender (Seaside Pictures #4) was a great read by Rachel Van Dyken. Bronte Connors was in love with Drew Amhurst at sixteen and had all his posters on her wall. Bronte got pregnant in high school and still dreamt of him at night. Now it’s twenty years later and Drew is mentoring her rock star Son. He is attracted to her and tells Bronte that she is his for a week. He promises that after the week, he will walk out of her life. I really loved reading Bronte and Drew’s story and can’t wait to read more by Rachel Van Dyken.
Book friends!! I freaking totally enjoyed this book. I connected SO quickly with these two characters and was invested from page one. Do you know why? BANTER! This is some of the best banter I have read in a hot minute. Rachel Van Dyken completely owned me with her quick wit. Amelia and “not my dad” moments had me smiling, swooning and falling head over heels in love with Drew.
“I never imagined a single kiss could alter the way you saw the world”
“lying to myself, that this week, these fleeting moments, these kisses would be enough to satisfy the hunger in my dark, broken soul”
SWOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNN. Dead.
His panty dropping, hot rock star vibes jumped off the pages and won me over, heart and soul. It is a quick, sweet, swoon-worthy romance that had me cheering from the nose bleed section lol. I totally totally enjoyed this one. A second chance at REAL love story that totally caught me off guard and falling in love with all the players involved. Bravo Mrs. Van Dyken.
Another Winner!!!
Awwwhappy tears!! I was waiting for Drew’s since i met him in Steal and damn this story is worth the wait. I absolutely love this book and it was always so amazing to meet my fav Seaside family lol yes they are like family now!!! I laughed , cried, swooned and fell in love with this irresistible and wonderful love story and Drew Amherst. I can feel the sexual tension, happiness and hurt through the pages. Such beautiful story between a famous rockstar and a single mom who didn’t get a chance to live and enjoy her life.
Surrender is a fun and flirty read full of wit and humor. Of course it’s Seaside those guys are funny and lovable af. I really enjoyed Drew and Bronte’s chemistry and their flirty banter. I devoured this book like everything by Rachel.
There is just something about Rachel Van Dyken and going to Seaside that just seems so perfect. We have Surrender that tells the story of an older woman and a musician that is at crossroads. Drew has gone through a lot of things and all of his past stuff is coming back in a way that is making him feel embarrassed. Then we have Bronte, a mother, divorcee and well feeling like she has not accomplished anything. We see Bronte doubting herself and when a man like Drew starts giving her attention it is hot. As novellas go and part of the 1001 Dark Nights this was a great addition to it making me love visiting Seaside.
“I received an eBook copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own.”
A very swoony read. An instant connection with all the sexual tension and slow burn. Bronte’s celebrity crush come to real life and comes barreling into her life. It isn’t what she ever could have imagined would happen. Drew is hot, broody, spontaneous, and has a very dirty mouth. As soon as their eyes meet, a single touch, a spark that turns into an inferno and they’re both goners for each other. I was all over this read right from the start to the very last page! So freaking good!
What a wonderfully funny and angsty book! A rockstar in his thirties who lived a very rough life, with drugs and booze, and after an overdose he turned his life around. He lives with regrets, guilts, broken edges in his soul from all the excesses he’s lived. He’s mentoring an up and coming rock star and watching that he doesn’t go on the bad roads he went. He’s also crushing on his protégée’s mother! This is causing all kinds of weird situations!
Bronte was a very young mother. Pregnant at sixteen, her boyfriend’s parents forced them to marry. After years of a lackluster marriage, she’s divorced and her light is dimmed. There are no remains of the lively, brave young girl she used to be. Her oldest son is the protégée of the famous rockstar Drew Amhurst, the very same rockstar that she used to fangirl over when she was sixteen. Now, her youngest daughter Amelia is sixteen. Bronte is beautiful but she doesn’t recognize it, she has a very low self-esteem.
Drew has been crushing on Bronte since he met her years ago. Now that he’s stationed in Seaside for a few days to finish an album, he decides to “go for it”. Going for it requires negotiations with Braden and Amelia (including a black AmEx card!) but eventually he wins over Bronte’s kids, he just has to work on the mother.
Their love story is wonderful; it has secrets (Drew’s), insecurities (Bronte’s), it has beautifully sweet moments, funny moments and sexy moments. This author went through all the emotions and made a lovely story with all the feels. We know there are dark corners in Drew’s soul and he tries to block them away but Bronte perceives them. Eventually Drew finds that although he asked for a few days, this is turning into something other than a week. I loved all his negotiations with Amelia, whom he affectionately calls “not-his-daughter” and she calls him back “not-my-father. There are feelings developing and forming them into a family and it’s cute to see how Drew doesn’t want Amelia to go out with boys, just like a typical father.
I enjoyed this book so much. Even though it’s the last book in the series and I haven’t read the previous ones, it’s perfectly enjoyable since we learn all we need during the narration. We get to know and love our characters, especially Drew, who is so multi-layered, funny sometimes, humble others, and most of the time with a huge ego that doesn’t fit into the house. Funny and wonderful!
Oh my gosh I loved this book so much!! Drew kept me laughing but also brought me to tears! I don’t even know how to express how much I loved this story. Drew and Bronte both had their demons but they conquered them together. I am sad that the story is over, I may have to read it again.
