There’s a fine line between lust and hate.I don’t care that Drew Merritt spent the last year transforming himself from grungy slob to sexy playboy. With messy, dirty blond hair and gorgeous eyes, his looks aren’t the problem. His mouth is.And the stupid things that come out of it.But after an emergency strands us together, and he does his damnedest to take care of me… Let’s just say there’s one … care of me…
Let’s just say there’s one thing we don’t clash on.
And it doesn’t involve talking.
I’ve despised Drew since I met him years ago. One weekend can’t change us that much, can it?
Spoiler alert: It doesn’t.
Except he left me a little keepsake.
And in nine months, I’ll have a surprise for Portland’s most notorious player.

This was such a good book! We meet these two actually in All about the D which is Josh and Evie’s. Which btw read it you wont regret it! Anyways back to Drew and Kendall.. these two…. oy vey they could argue and fight like no other. But things change and things heat up. These was such a good story. I loved Drew and how he grew up.. and how Kendall was so fierce but still showed her feelings about everything going on. This was funny and loveable book!
3.5 stars
Surprise, Baby! is a fun enemies to lovers story. Their best friends had a whirlwind romance but she can’t stand him. He loves to fire her up and can’t ever seem to keep his foot out of his mouth. A sassy, fiery red head and the eternal “dude bro” face off and learn they are more than meets the eye.
Sweet and drama filled Surprise, Baby! will have you shaking your head and smiling.

I have to admit, when I found out this book was going to be about Drew and Kendall I thought “no freaking way” LOL. I mean, how on Earth were the authors going to redeem Drew enough to be a love interest for anyone…let alone Kendall?!?! If you’ve read All About the D you know how awful Drew was, lol. He was kind of a slob and rarely sober and just NOT boyfriend material. And Kendall was Kendall, very put together, a little type A with how controlled she was, and totally disgusted by Drew.
Well, I’m here to tell you, they TOTALLY pulled it off. I was completely smitten with Drew and his makeover! It’s not all smooth sailing though and the two definitely have some hoops to jump through and some struggles but it worked, it really worked. And we got to see Evie and Josh as well which was a bonus. Thoroughly enjoyed it!
These 2 are a mess but so funny So of these one liners hysterical . Their story started fast Is it sad I wanted more of Bee The whole Thanksgiving weekend was HOT and steamy. Drews one dirty talker he so knows what he likes.
Kendall Greer She never saw it coming her and drew are like oil and water. When on Thanksgiving break her world is about to change for better and worse.
Drew Merritt Fun party goer. Trying to change his life around even though everyone else believes hes still the same guy. Now hes trying to prove to only one person hes not that boy anymore.
“So you did the dirty with Chewbacca?”
“We can do this any way you want. As long as you come hard and often.”
“Instead , I’m kissing a girl who see me for more than I am.”
“How would you like a cordial invitation to sit on my face?”
“Is it creepy to sniff your clothes that smell like her?”
“Since always. I’ve always wanted you ,Kendall”
I love a good enemies to lovers romance……and I have to say, Surprise, Baby! is definitely on my list of favorites! I couldn’t get enough of the witty and entertaining banter, inner monologues, and the off the charts chemistry between Drew & Kendall. I absolutely loved it!!
While I don’t think you necessarily need to read All About the D in order to read and enjoy this story, I personally found it more enjoyable as you got to see the growth and change in the relationship from one story to the next between Kendall and Drew. To be honest, I really wasn’t the biggest fan of Drew when we first meet him, but holy smokes – Drew 2.0 was so incredible! And Kendall, truly accepting Drew and seeing beneath the surface for who he really is…..I adored her. And getting to see Evie & Josh again, along with Drew’s Bee…..truly everything about this story was amazing and I couldn’t keep a smile off my face.
Surprise Baby
I was so excited when I heard Lex Martin and Leslie McAdam were writing together again. I loved Surprise Baby and couldn’t put it down.
When we first met Drew in All About the D, he was a mess. But he’s worked hard becoming Drew 2.0. Kendall Greer is not easily convinced however. I mean, I wouldn’t be either if the first time I met Drew he was scheduling himself a good time.
Fate has a funny way of stepping in one night during a blizzard. These two stranded together had to make the most of things. Could Drew really be a changed man, someone Kendall could count on, or when tempted, will he go back to Drew 1.0?
This book has the perfect mix of romance and comedy. This is a must read for me and can’t wait for another book to be released by these two.
Oh this book!!! It is just fabulous!!! It’s a rom-com, enemies to lovers that has all the feels!!!
When Drew and Kendall first met he was somewhat of a hot mess. Drugs, alcohol and sex were his jam. She did not have a good first impression of him, at all. That all changed after a health scare. Well he changed 2 out of 3….he was still a manwhore, and they still fought like cats and dogs. Good lord, their bantering back and forth had me laughinh. A trip to mountains for a long Thanksgiving weekend with friends and a snowstorm, completely changes everything!!! Lex Martin and Leslie McAdam nailed it with this book! You will laugh, you will cry and you just may fan yourself because there are some seriously steamy sexy times.
As always, Lex Martin never disappoints. This was my first book where Lex Martin and Leslie McAdam co-wrote and it didn’t disappoint. This was a cute, albeit a tad cliche, but enjoyable enemies to lovers trope. The writing kept you entertained, the dialogue wasn’t forced, and the story line kept you waiting to find out more. The emerging relationship that Drew and Kendall have is swoon-worthy. Drew becomes such a contender in this book.
As from the book description, you see that there is a baby story line involved and drama ensues. Lex Martin and Leslie McAdam took a very realistic approach to a very scary subject.
This was a very cute read that any enemies to lover trope fans would love.
5 LOVE STARS!! I have so much LOVE for this book. Drew is PERFECTION. Kendall is so strong and determined in everything she does. Their story is filled with humor, sexiness, drama and so much love. These two authors are amazing as a writing duo, they compliment each other style. This book should definitely be a 1-Click for you.
I loved All About the D, the chemistry between Kendall & Drew is SIZZLING! Except I couldn’t see how that drunken buffoon with good intentions was going to redeem himself. He redeemed himself AND HOW!! I FLOVE DREW!! And Kendall, she’s amazing! Strong, smart, fierce, independent, driven. Drew 2.0 is just the laid back she needs. He may not always be sure what to do, but he knows what he wants, even if the dumb oaf doesn’t communicate all of it. Although, Kendall is just as bad at the communication thing. They excel at bedroom communication but learn both need to actually tell the other what they’re thinking outside the bed. This book is full of hot, sweet, steamy, funny, tender deliciousness!! Definitely the book I was waiting for!! FLOVED IT!! Drew may have dethroned Josh. I did not think I would feel that way but Drew stole my heart. I received a review copy. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
When Lex and Leslie co-write, you automatically know you have gold in your hands! Suprise, Baby is an enemies to lovers novel where we meet the notorious batchelor Drew, who’s life is partying and sqrewing anything with a heartbeat. Or so the rumor says… His best friend is married to Kendall’s best friend, so they paths are crossed frequently. Kendall is a fierce, strong and independent woman, and she detest everything he stands for. When they get snowed in at Thanksgiving things change, and everything is not as they first seem… I love that Suprise, Baby is a dual book. To read how Drew sees her, and get to read what she thinks, the debate that’s going on in her head in the same situation is so relatable to me (and many other woman I bet!) Lex and Leslie’s books always have a deeper meaning, and Suprise, Baby is no different! It give me ALL the feels, and I totally loved it!!
This book was funny, sexy, swoon worthy, and made you want to punch the hero all in one. The banter between the main couple is hilarious and I loved the chemistry between them.
There really is a fine line between love/lust and hate…and this book nailed it! Absolutely loved it! Drew and Kendall’s story gives you a fun and amazing read…you won’t want to put it down!
Josh and Evie were so freaking wonderful… And I just KNEW that Drew and Kendall would be dynamite! I am usually a fan of a good enemies to lovers book… And this one took the cake! Their fun, their doubts, their misunderstandings…. All so well played! Josh being the reformed bad but boy, with that always following him around. He, more than anyone, needed to be more open and honest. But seeing their relationship bloom and come full circle was an awesome ride! I love them as much as I love Josh and Evie… And that’s saying a lot! 5 all the way!!!
You may recall Drew and Kendall from Lex Martin and Leslie McAdam’s earlier collaboration, All About the D. Kendall was NOT impressed by Drew, although he was willing to overlook that if she would sleep with him.
Thankfully, Martin and McAdam bring our would-be lovebirds together, and they do so in the most hilarious way. Let’s just say that the titular surprise could not come about in a more rollicking, grab-your-stomach-in-laughter kind of way.
At the same time, the romance that develops between Drew and Kendall is, dare I say it, sweet, and that’s largely due to Drew. On the surface, he doesn’t appear to be the most mature guy around. Yet he has achieved no small measure of success, and he’s done so on his own. (When you meet his parents, you will want to shout at them for all kinds of reasons.) Drew clings to that veneer of immaturity largely because it’s comforting to him. He has gotten so accustomed to sort of playing a role that he can’t figure out how to break out of it.
Fortunately, Kendall is there to help him. She’s together. She’s organized and orderly, and she solves problems expeditiously. One problem she wishes she could solve is her attraction to Drew, but the lovable lug makes it just too difficult to stay away.
Lex Martin and Leslie McAdam establish the connection between Drew and Kendall, showing you that despite the miscommunications and misunderstandings, these two belong together. They are ready for each other, even if they don’t see that straight away.
That connection is on delicious display in the sexy times. Drew and Kendall may not like each other all that much at first, but their naughty bits are able to overlook that minor detail. I’m always a fan of sex scenes that show more than just physical intimacy, and Martin and McAdam do that really well in this book. When Drew and Kendall rock the headboard, they start to let down their emotional guards, even though neither realizes it.
You will laugh, you will cry, and you will sigh all the sighs in this fun, flirty, and fiery romance.
Brilliant, Brilliant, BRILLIANT! Surprise, Baby! is a book that is fun, flirty, dirty, and so, so loveable.
I love to highlight special passages, funny sayings, or memorable moments while I’m reading…I just about highlighted this entire book. I was either in stiches laughing or sighing at all of the loveable/laughable breakout moments. Lex and Leslie are a phenomenal writing duo and I seriously cannot say enough great things about how much I enjoyed reading Surprise, Baby!
Kendall Greer works in public relations and knows all about fixing messes and covering up mistakes. Hence, why Drew Merritt, one of Portland’s most eligible bachelors, is one of her biggest achilles heels. He hasn’t always been responsible, he’s actually been the complete opposite of responsible and a publist’s nightmare. Unfortunately, Drew hasn’t always been on his best behaviour around Kendall, actually he’s typically been at his worst when she’s been around, but you know there’s a fine line between lust and hate.
“Since I’ve known Kendall, she’s yelled at me, lectured me, ignored me, talked over my head, talked down to me, and made sure that there was no chance in hell I’d ever be able to touch her. Kendall’s like a gorgeous IRS auditor – she’s out to prove me wrong, but the words that come out of her mouth make me hard.”-Drew
There is no denying, the attraction they feel towards each other, so when they find themselves stranded, locked away in a mountain cabin, they don’t try to fight what is lying beneath all the layers of bad decisions and bad history.
“Drew 2.0 is…sweet. And dare I say thoughtful? I like this new side to him. More than I care to admit.” Kendall
As Drew and Kendall try to navigate their hot mess of a non-relationship, oops…surprise! Things get complicated.
Oh man! What can I say. This was my first read by Lex Martin and Leslie McAdam and I couldn’t wait to dive in. Told in dual POV, Surprise, Baby! is an enemies to lovers rom com read that had me grinning from ear to ear. While I normally live on a steady diet of angst filled reads, this book was a fun, sexy break. Have you ever been friends with someone and that person had a friend that just got on your last nerve, welp that is Kendall and Drew. They are friends of friends that seem to enjoy annoying each other. However unforeseen circumstances find them stranded together, alone, for a weekend. Did I mention hate sex? Loved the witty banter too! If you are looking for a funny, sexy rom-com, give this one a go.
Omg why have I not read Lex Martin and Leslie McAdam’s co written books before now, after reading the brilliant Surprise Baby I can’t believe they haven’t crossed my radar up until now.
Im not going to write a review that’s full of spoilers because I believe you need to pick this book up with no expectations you need to read the antics of Drew and Kendall first hand like I did and I know you will love this must read witty, funny, romantic package.
An independent business woman and a reformed party animal with friends who know them better than they know themselves leads to all sorts surprises, this book has all the feels you want and need in a great read. I laughed, I swooned and at times I sighed but most importantly I loved watching these characters grow as their story unfolds, I loved the loyalty that this group of friends share and what about the sizzling chemistry wow that was seriously off the charts. All in all a great read that I would recommend to any romance lover. Can’t wait to read more from this very talented duo.
This was an interesting read. Not quite enemies to lovers, but more annoying friend of a friend…who turns into more. I loved the blurb and was excited to read, but was a bit underwhelmed by the character traits and plot line. This book is the second in a series, though I haven’t read the first, and followed along well enough.
The plot follows Drew and Kendall. They’re friends of friends, who just rub each other the wrong way, but try to put up with each other for their now married friends. Plausible story line, but their actions leave a lot to be desired. We see them go from annoying each other to falling over each other naked, to having to figure out co-parenting. Tough road, made tougher by their choices.
Individually, I liked each character. Drew is a mostly reformed bad boy. After a health scare, he’s sobered up, gotten fit, and made some lifestyle changes. He has his own company and seems to be a great friend to Josh. Drew has the unfortunate path in life to have unsupportive parents, who can’t see how he’s changed his life and who hold a much different set of lifestyle beliefs. Kendall is a hard working woman who has started her own PR firm and is doing well for herself. She gets to work with a good friend, has parents who love her (and each other), and a good friend in Evie-who is married to Josh. And since Drew is Josh’s best friend, Kendall has seen and heard all of Drew’s past actions. Yet despite a new Drew emerging, Kendall isn’t keen on giving him a fresh start. I really like Drew; he’s made so many positive changes in his life, stands for so many good and just things in the world, and takes up the task of being there for Kendall and the pregnancy so well. But he holds so much back. Lack of good communication is much of there conflict. Not just his, but also for Kendall. She’s unforgiving and jumps to conclusions instead of being open and talking to Drew. Makes the last third of the book painful!
Kendall and Drew have the annoying each other thing down, and it’s no surprise that translates into hate you enough for sex. Their weekend together is cute and fun and sexy and everything a weekend stranded together should be! But after that it’s pretty slow and stilted due to their communication break down, though they do manage to get it together and have some good times at again. So while they have chemistry, they also sabotage themselves and it’s to the detriment of the story.
I really wanted to like this book. The blurb was funny! The plot was easy to follow and understand, but the character flaws made it hard to relate. I cringed through so much in the last third of the book, all the assumptions and lack of communication.
I’m torn about how I feel about this book as a whole…there’s some fantastic dialogue and descriptions, and laugh out loud situations; but then then Kendall and Drew forget to talk and hash out life like people have to do in the real world, and they mess it all up. I can’t fully recommend it due to those unlikely actions, though it was well written.

This is a 3 star romantic comedy. That was funny, romantic and a slow burn
Kendall and Drew have been in each circle of friends and it’s hate a first sight. They get stranded for a week end and things will change drastically.
This was a slow burn. It was actually too slow for my liking. It didn’t pick and spike my interest until more then half way through the story. I skimmed a lot in the first half. After it was more captivating.
I’ll be the first to admit that Drew made me roll my eyes way too often with his immature behaviour. But he really stepped up to the plate and matured.
Standalone told in a dual POV with an HEA. Some of the characters of the book All About the D come play a certain role in this story.
***5 ‘Mischief Managed’ Stars***
When I saw that this duo was doing another book together that was connected to All About the D, which I thoroughly enjoyed, I was all in. Didn’t need to read the description. Nothing. ALL. IN. And then I read the description and it took me a minute to remember just WHO Drew was and I’ll admit, I groaned a little and rolled my eyes because that man drove me Batshit Crazy, but I was still all in. And all I can say is I LOVED this book. BOTH Drew and Kendall still drove me crazy, but the sweet, swoony, eye rolling moments were SOO worth it and the smexy was HAWT, and don’t even get me started on the ovary exploding ones *Dopey sigh* ! I devoured this book and wanted more even when there were no more words to read.
So, Drew. I wanted to gut him with a spoon when I first met him in All About the D. I did. But this Drew? Drew 2.0 was still aggravating at times with his edit button being unrepairable and all, but the man really us a sweetheart. He’s perfectly, imperfect with a golden and genuine heart. Kendall is a force to be reckoned with. Hard working, intelligent and sassy. She has no problem standing her ground and telling it like it is. But her heart has been bruised and it contributes, at times, the sharp edges that surround her.
No lie. These two drove me batshitcrazy, but watching as they got to know each other and truly SEE each other was so worth it. I loved their bantering, snipping and how, once they let their walls down just a little, that they actually complemented the other in the best of ways. Their road was definitely not an easy one, the whole pregnancy thing was definitely a twist neither saw coming, but the big ‘ole wrench that does get thrown into the mix couldn’t have happened at the most inopportune time. Thankfully, the grovelling was all kinds of swoon worthy and I loved how everything worked out for them.
This was such a fun read, I had a difficult time putting it down. The writing was engaging and seamless and I loved the dual first person POV’s. As for the supporting cast of characters. I loved catching up with Josh and Evie and finding out what they’ve been up to, Kendall’s parents were awesome, but Bee is definitely the favorite.
So, if you love a good enemies to lovers romance, with an “Oops, I’m pregnant” situation tossed into the mix, then this is a definite must read for you!
