There’s a fine line between lust and hate.I don’t care that Drew Merritt spent the last year transforming himself from grungy slob to sexy playboy. With messy, dirty blond hair and gorgeous eyes, his looks aren’t the problem. His mouth is.And the stupid things that come out of it.But after an emergency strands us together, and he does his damnedest to take care of me… Let’s just say there’s one … care of me…
Let’s just say there’s one thing we don’t clash on.
And it doesn’t involve talking.
I’ve despised Drew since I met him years ago. One weekend can’t change us that much, can it?
Spoiler alert: It doesn’t.
Except he left me a little keepsake.
And in nine months, I’ll have a surprise for Portland’s most notorious player.

Fabulous enemies to lovers with so much wit and banter. This was such a fun read with so much humor and holy hotness I could not put this one down.
Oh this book had me laughing and falling in love with Drew. Yes he does come off as an over grown frat boy but he’s also sweet and just plain yummy. I’m glad he got Kendall to thaw a little because she was majorly up tight. They totally balanced each other out.
OH MY GOODNESS!!!!
I fell in love with Drew so hard. I didn’t think it was possible, but YEP! Lex and Leslie made me fall harder and faster than even Josh! I’m shocked.
Drew & Kendall – love. them. The situation that forces them together at the beginning is HILARIOUS. I was laughing so hard throughout the book, but the beginning had me cracking up!
The whole story line is great. The banter is PERFECT! The characters are lovable. I couldn’t love this book more if I tried. Great job, Lex and Leslie!!! I want more Drew!
Rating: 4.5 Stars
Kendall Greer seems to be talking to the reader – letting us in on what’s going on in her life. Drew Merritt also seems to share his thoughts with us. The authors, since I can’t tell which one, have given him a personal challenge that you don’t see very often. It’s something that lots of people have but don’t worry because it won’t overtake the story – impressed!
I love a story that has two authors and you can’t tell who has written what – whether chapter or scene. It shows how well they work together. I don’t know who created Drew but I loved watching him being brought to his knees by a woman who seems to have issues with him. There was a scene/were scenes where there was a fork in the road and loved watching how these two handled things.
I wouldn’t say that this story was a laugh out loud kind of book but I certainly got a few chuckles out of it. Loved the idea of the best things happen when you least expect it. Loved the banter back and forth. They have a couple of friends, Evie and Josh, who have their own story titled All About The D. You don’t need to have read it in order to enjoy this couples book. But how they interact with our main characters may give you an incentive to go back and find out what our authors had in store for them.
I’m a little curious about Tristan though. He’s Kendall’s business partner and friend. He’s been there when she’s needed it. He had issues with Drew and after reading Drew’s impressions of him in the epilogue it just has me wondering if we will see him again. Having this story end with Drew was a great idea because it gives us his impression of what has happened to him but also gives us enough of what Kendall’s also feeling.
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
I listened to the All About the D audiobook previous to reading this book. It is not necessary but it helped me understand some of the backstory between these two characters since they both appear in it.
First off, I would like to say that they had me when before chapter one they used a quote from Pride and Prejudice. That is a big brownie point in my opinion.
Drew and Kendall did not have the best of first impressions. The worst you could say. I really liked Drew in All About the D as he was the one that made me laugh. That did not change here. He was the one who kept me entertained and cracking up laughing. His relationship with his Bee made me swoon. Come on! That is sweet! Add in a cute kitty? *Swoon*
I enjoyed that Kendall learned to relax. She was too uptight and that is all thanks to giving Drew a chance.
I truly enjoyed this book more than AAtD. I can’t recommend it enough. Hilarious!
This is a cute / fun, friends to lover rom / com books.
Drew Merritt spent the last year transforming himself from grungy slob to sexy playboy. He went into a diabetic coma and realized that he had to change his life / lifestyle. He is built like a Greek god, with messy, dirty blond hair and gorgeous eyes, his looks aren’t the problem.
Kendall Greer works in public relations and knows all about fixing messes and covering up mistakes. Hence, why Drew Merritt, one of Portland’s most eligible bachelors, is one of her biggest Achilles heels.
As Drew and Kendall try to navigate their hot mess of a non-relationship, oops…surprise! Things get complicated. Drew & Kendall’s best friends are married, and they sometimes have to spend time together as a group of 4. But, they have never spent time alone, one on one. Kendall renames Drew, 2.0, with his good looks, and good behavior around her. Although Kendall still olds somethings against him.
Will Kendall still be able to work her 80 hr PR weeks if she gets involved with Drew? Will Drew be able to cut out his womanizing ways?
I did receive a free ARC copy of this book. I am freely leaving a review of my own.
The story was witty and so much fun, but also romantic, sweet and heart-warming!!! It was the complete package! This was my first read by either author and it is the first of many!!!
Kendall is a successful, independent business woman. She’s driven, focused and single! Drew is a reformed party animal. He’s gotten his life in order, well mostly, and become a better man from the one Kendall remembers.
Mutual friends are what bring them together for a weekend getaway in a cabin. However, a storm derails plans and leaves these two alone for the weekend! They will need to come to an understanding since now they are snowed in! What better way to pass the time then some mutual pleasure…it’s about to get HOT!!!
A weekend of indulgence leaves Kendall with the kind of memory that’s going to change everything!
Kendall and Drew had amazing chemistry! Off the charts sexiness…and then reality sets in and they have to figure out how to be more than just lovers.
These two are hysterical! The inner monologues will have you laughing out loud. I really loved this story. The ups and downs, figuring out their place in each other’s lives, their transition from enemies to lovers and then to so much more. A story about making your family that will warm your heart!
I loved Drew and Kendall so much! Leslie and Lex are great writers alone but when come together and write it’s PHENOMENAL! Drew and Kendall’s story is sweet, laugh out loud funny, very sexy. Their story was definitely worth waiting for.
Surprise, Baby! is so much fun!!! A must read! I loved this enemies-to-lovers story. This was my first book by these authors and I loved every word. This story had me laughing out loud with sweet romantic times. A weekend with friends turns into a twosome because of a snowstorm. Kendall and Drew are snowed in and soon things get hot!!! I loved this story so much – all the ups and downs, the road to being a couple, the banter, the chemistry, why did this book have to end? I need more!!!
*4.5 PHUCKIFINO STARS*
The amazing, magical duo of Lex Martin and Leslie McAdam have done it again. Surprise, Baby! is a steamy, laugh out loud, enemies to lovers rom com. And man does it deliver. From the moment I heard that Lex and Leslie were writing another book I was all in, then I read the description and knew I HAD to read this book.
Surprise, Baby! gives us the story of Kendall Greer and Drew Merritt who we were previously introduced to in Lex Martin and Leslie McAdam’s first collaboration – All About The D. (If you haven’t already read it, go do it now. Its a must read!) Both can be read as a standalone. But why only read one when you have two, double the steaminess.
“When I consider how at our very core, we’re so different, the odds are not in our favor. Drew is a recovering party animal with a penchant to love the one he’s with. I’m a wine-with-dinner girl who prefers long term commitments over hookups.”
Kendall Greer is an independent, driven business owner. Drew Merritt is one of Portland’s most eligible bachelors and newly reformed party animal. These two are like oil and vinegar – at first they don’t mix but when given the appropriate ingredients and spices, they can create something amazing and delicious. This just so happens when Drew and Kendall plan to join their mutual friends for Thanksgiving but thanks to a storm they become stranded at a cabin, just the two of them. That’s when this oil and vinegar start to mix, and boy do they do some mixing.
Surprise, Baby! has everything you could possibly want and more from an enemies to lovers rom com. The quirky, back and forth banter between Drew and Kendall will have you laughing out loud and the steamy, sizzling, off the charts chemistry will make you blush. This is a one-click, definite read!

This Rom-Com starring Drew and Kendall had me cracking up. The banter between the two was classic and the sweetness level wasn’t overkill.
“…like a crouching tiger waiting for his hidden dragon.”
Both characters were well developed. I liked how Drew went from bad boy player to a one woman guy and had turned his life around after a health scare and Kendall was a sassy bish. I totally had a girl crush on her character! Misunderstandings happen on the daily so it was a very realistic read. This enemies to lovers book has a lot of steamy moments as well as so many laugh out loud moments you’ll have people thinking you are a nutcase.
This is my first book by the duo but it definitely won’t be my last. It is a must read!
Surprise, Baby by Lex Martin and Leslie Mcadam is just what I needed after the heaviness of my previous read. It was funny, light hearted and fun to read!
I just LOVED Drew and Kendall together. They were absolutely perfect for one another! My heart swooned from Drew’s… well, everything, and I loved Kendall’s feistiness and independence. Their chemistry together was like firework: explosive!
I just loved the story. I was hooked from the very first page, and I couldn’t get enough of it. I loved how it was written, and how everything seemed to blend in effortlessly. And a bonus of it being funny too. Well, I always love a good rom-com!
I enjoyed reading this book so much, and it was a break from the dark theme that I’d been reading the past few weeks. I couldn’t stop myself from smiling or swooning, and I just loved the lightness of the story. It was beautifully written.
Also, I’m gonna need to find the time to meet Josh and Evie properly, because I loved them so much in this story. So much so I need to acquaint myself with them.
Surprise, Baby was a light-hearted, funny and cute read. For anyone who needs to be cheered up after a rough day, or any off who wants to meet a swoonworthy troublemaker that will melt your heart, then this is the book for you!
This was a great Rom-Com from this author duo. I haven’t read the other book that is connected to this story but it’s being bumped up my TBR. Drew and Kendall’s relationship didn’t start off the best. Which I’m guessing is showing in the other book in more context. But they work hard and have misunderstandings, laughs and lots of passion I could feel the connection that these two shared.
I laughed a lot while reading this book. From Drew’s hashtags, to just the characters banter, you can’t help but laugh at the things that go on. There were times my heart broke because the characters were stubborn or things made them feel less worthy. This was a great story that ranged from every emotion that you can have while reading a book. I can’t wait to go back and read the other story that is out. I wouldn’t be opposed to seeing some of the other secondary characters getting books. While they didn’t play super huge parts in this book, I still found my self liking some of them. 4 stars #2OCCJD
A mostly lighthearted, funny romance. If you like second chance, or enemies to lovers tropes, you will adore this book. Kendall and Drew are an unforgettable match made in the snow. Drew is a reformed bad boy, my fave!! Lex Martin and Leslie McAdam are an amazing writing team that I look forward to reading more of in the future. *hint hint* haha
I am such a sucker for a reformed bad boy! And oh how i loved Drew! He is the ultimate bad boy with a sweet heart, and when he finally gets a chance with the girl he has crushed on for forever, his swonny side comes out. He totally had me melting into my chair.
Kendall is a workaholic who never takes time for herself. So when a snowstorm leaves her stranded with no electricity, and the hot but annoying Drew, she decides that what happens on the mountain, stays on the mountain. But does it?
I absolutely loved these two from the start and I couldn’t get enough of them. Surprise, Baby is fabulous enemies-to-lovers rom-com that is full of humor and heat that will leave you fanning yourself. I highly recommend you pick this one up!
“Surprise, Baby!” by Lex Martin and Leslie McAdam is a great read. This was the first time I’ve read anything from either of these authors and it won’t be the last. I enjoyed Drew and Kendall’s story. This story is full of humor, chemistry, passion, enemies to lovers, and more. Highly recommend to all fans of romance, rom-com, enemies to lovers, and humor.
Drew Merritt is a player and notorious bachelor. He’s all about having a good time. But when a serious health scare causes him to re-evaluate his party lifestyle, Drew starts becoming a new man. Too bad first impressions really count and changing the way others see you isn’t easy.
Kendall Greer is work obsessed. While she has her two best friends, her new PR company is her one true focus. When she’s invited to stay in a cabin with friends for the Thanksgiving holiday, she gives in . . . but when Drew shows up at her office to give her a ride she is anything but thrilled.
Snowbound together Kendall is expecting the worst, but is surprised by the new man Drew seems to be . . . but can she trust it? While things between them steam up Kendall isn’t sure Drew has changed as much as she hopes he has . . . and anyway, one weekend can’t change everything, or can it?
Surprise, Baby! was another brilliant collaboration between Lex Martin and Leslie McAdam. It was cute and funny, romantic and flirty, yet sweet and serious as well. Drew and Kendall gave me all the feels on their rocky relationship journey and I loved it!
I totally got Kendall’s hesitancy to believe that Drew could make a complete 180 with his lifestyle . . .especially when the poor guy has some seriously bad luck that continually shines the worst light on him even when it isn’t his fault. I loved watching how hard Drew worked to turn his life around and become a better man. Seriously, his relationship with his Grandma is amazing. I also loved watching Kendall struggle with dealing with her uncertainties while she was also dealing with pregnancy hormones . . . poor Drew definitely had his work cut out for him!
Surprise, Baby was a really cute read, but had enough serious moments to bring a lot of depth to these characters and their story. This was the perfect enemies to lovers couple coming together for better or worse! 5 stars.
Surprise Baby!
This book was definitely a surprise!
Drew transformation for when we first met him, to now, was delightful to watch! He is kind, funny, and of course smexy.
Kendall is beautiful, passionate, strong willed, and career motivated. Her inside mind narrative was so funny!
And then put these two together, fireworks! Their chemistry is so sweet and off the charts. The way they are together just makes me so happy!
I just absolutely love Lex Martin and Leslie McAdam separately, but together? Perfection! I really hope they do more collaborations in the future.
What a wonderful surprise!
Since All About The D, I loved Kendall and Drew.
Kendall was a good and loyal friend, she was supportive and rooted deeply for Evie!
And Drew enticed me completely, even being goofy, irreverent and, more often than not, a jerk. But he loved Josh like a brother, he was funny as heck and there was something about him, something lurking under the surface that made me saw him with softness instead of annoyance. And I can say I was right!
There was so much more about Andrew for us to love and enjoy. He was so cheekly funny, cocky in a pleasant kind of way and he could seduce and make me laugh at the same time.
Actually, I’m glad I read this book alone, because I sounded like a crazy lady laughing out loud. And I’m glad I was alone for other reasons too.
After a huge wake-up call, Drew changed his life, his behaviour (but don’t get me wrong, he is still a funny kinky guy), adapted his life and his choices and came out a new man. Drew 2.0
“Drew 2.0 is…sweet. And dare I say thoughtful? I like this new side of him. More than I care to admit”
That new version was also considerate and caring. He was the perfect mixture and cocky, goofy, sexy and adorable.
He was deeper and more complex than he ever led on. And when it came to the ones he cared about, he wouldn’t measure forces to do whatever it needed to be done. No matter if it were for Josh, or his Bumble Bee, Shazam and, of course, Kendall/KK/Kenster/and so on.
“‘And the part you’re grateful for is?’
‘For this weekend. For being forced to unplug from work for longer than the drive through Vista Ridge Tunnel. For your grandmother’s pie…and for you looking out for me'”
And that new version of him totally touched Kendall (in more ways than one). Seeing him so adorable and even vulnerable showed her that he was way more than she thought and he deserved a second chance.
Even being so guarded and a total workaholic, she started to see her walls crumbled down on the floor for someone she thought she despised.
Beyond that, after they realize they get a surprise coming up, even more things change between them, and the feelings become undeniable.
And don’t even get me started on their chemistry! It was totally insane and completely off the charts! They ignited fire that could defrost a snow storm.
They connect phisically and emotionally in ways they never thought they could. They are more lined than they imagined and their bonding is deep. They understand and respect each other more than almost everyone they know.
“So when I kiss her, I’m really not kissing a friend who I want to f***. That offer was me throwing out a Hail Mary because I didn’t think she’d actually go for me. Instead, I’m kissing a girl who sees me for more than I am, and I’m hoping I can treat her right”
I can’t even tell how many times I laugh during this book. And the thing about romentic comedy is that is totally enjoyable, but most of the times you just get a smile on your face during your reading, and that’s it.
But with this book not only did I have that silly smile the whooole book (my cheeks were actually hurting!), but I also laughed out loud so many times, I had to check again and read another time and laught all over again.
It was totally a page-turner-unputdownable book, and even though I’m still smiling right now, I’m sad to see them go.
I just wish we can get to see them again in the near future and see what other surprises they have hidden up in their sleeves!
4.5 romance-my-pants-off Stars!
Drew and Kendall’s love story, phew…I’m dead with all the feels. After reading All About the D (a must read if you haven’t already) I didn’t love Drew’s character. Upon starting his story, he’s done a complete 180 and is now charming my socks off. This guy has the biggest heart and he’s finally getting his dream girl, Kendall Greer.
Kendall and Drew, while complete opposites, really bring out the best in each other. Their chemistry is off the charts, their spit fire wit is hilarious and they both love so deeply. Their start is a bit unusual but after a stranded weekend in the mountains, all bets are off and these two turn up some serious heat.
What I love most about books from Leslie and Lex is the unexpected heart that is the backbone to their romances. Their books could easily be fluffy, easy romances but their unique characters and fantastic writing is AMAZING. I’m consistently left with ALL THE FEELS and swooning so hard at the end. I love Drew and Kendall, and as a bonus tons of revisiting with Evie and Josh. Now I need a reread of All About the D!!
