A $5M superyacht unmanned and adrift, a trail of blood, and a bikini-clad blonde with a knife in her back. That’s what Florida salvage captain Seychelle Sullivan finds when she responds to a woman’s Mayday call.Worse, the missing skipper is Neal Garrett, her ex.But when she ties the salvaged yacht to the pier, the Fort Lauderdale detective zeroes in on her as a suspect and raises questions. … detective zeroes in on her as a suspect and raises questions. Questions she can’t answer.
Is Neal dead or alive?
Who is the dead blonde?
And who owns the lavish yacht Seychelle just salvaged?
She wants answers, too. Her business is in trouble, and this salvage claim against a yacht worth millions just might save her from having to sell her father’s beloved tugboat, Gorda.
Besides, she knows Neal’s alive. Somebody broke into her cottage that same day and stole her cash stash. Nobody knew where it was hidden except Neal.
Ever since her mother’s death, Seychelle has devoted her life to saving boats and people. Neal might be a jerk, but he’s definitely in trouble, and she has to find him.
As she searches from waterfront bars to strip clubs to halfway houses for run-aways, another girl’s body surfaces.
Seychelle is confident she can raise wrecks and navigate the seas, but can she salvage lives by stopping a killer?

Good series starter with a strong female main character. Takes place down in the Fort Lauderdale area so that’s a plus as far as backround. I did get a bit lost sometimes when the author was talking specifics about the boat engines and instruments.
The all too short Seychelle Sullivan series is one of my favorites. It has boats, Florida, and a strong woman lead. What more could you want? Her descriptions of piloting an ocean-going salvage boat are great nautical fare. Highly recommended!
Hard working girl betrayed by family, friends while trying to keep her business. Always trying to help people and ending up accused of murder. Wonderful characters.
Good book
Pretty good read.
Interesting & entertaining read. For once the protagonist doesn’t have to be massively experienced to get things done.
Being an ocean person, I enjoyed this nautical mystery. Nice heroine characterization off the beaten track. Good read.
A good thriller. The lead character, Seychelle, reminded me a bit of Sue Grafton’s Kinsey Millhone, which is a compliment. However, Seychelle seemed pretty dense at times which was not believable. I have read all of Christine’s Shipwreak Adventure series, and very much enjoyed those. All of those deserved 4 or 5 stars, so this novel was a bit …
I learned more about boats just journeying with the chrs through this terrific book. I highly recommend it.
Wasn’t particularly thrilling. Took a while to get through which is never a good sign for a good read for me.
Well written and entertaining – just enough twists and turns to be interesting.
No “supernatural” events – hooray! I’ll read this author again and tell my friends who read
about her.
Loved the story but could have done without so much boat jargon…but I guess it made it more real.
I like the South Florida and sea fairing setting. Not a light “fun” read. There are a lot of bad people out there…..
Enjoyed reading it, but I’m not fyi g to read another one of her books. It was just okay.
This is one in a series of good books but stand alone does fine too.Good local knowledge of gulf coast Florida. Recommend her whole series.
I liked the non-stop action. There are really bad villians and a heroine who is in deep trouble throughout the story.
The entire series is GREAT!
Really enjoy Kling’s writing! And like her characters!
Interesting sub plots and believable characters. Highly recommend.
Tenacious, strong willed, determined is what it takes to read through this poor attempt at a mystery novel. The chapter 26 pronouncement by Seychelle says it all “I need a plan but I don’t have a clue.” Good details on local highways in SE Florida and inshore/near shore towing procedures – but author spends more pages talking about her men …
