From USA Today Bestselling author, the second book in the Laurel Springs Emergency Response Team SeriesIf you don’t love, you can’t get hurt…Nick KeplerOne thing my childhood taught me was never show my emotions. Don’t make memories. Don’t count on other people. Don’t hope for the best. All that changed when I was adopted by Ryan and Whitney Kepler. Begrudgingly I let them into my life, along …
Begrudgingly I let them into my life, along with my new sister and a best friend I would lay down my life for. But giving up my heart and accepting love in return from Kelsea Harrison? It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever tried to do.
And the truth is? I’m not sure if I’m that strong.
Kelsea Harrison
From the very moment I met Nick Kepler I knew he would be the love of my life. Problem is I haven’t been able to convince him of that yet.
When our best friends get married, Nick and I spend a drunken night letting our walls down and losing all our inhibitions. In one moment I’m given everything I ever wanted. Then, in the blink of an eye it’s taken away from me.
The question is, can I be strong for the both of us?
The answer? I have to be.

I don’t know where to start with this one, Suppression really hit home for me. As a former foster child who knows the physical, mental, and emotional abuse that you endure on your path to and through the foster system this book really resonated with me. My heart broke for Nick, because his pain and sense of self were something I could completely relate to. His emotions were real and I felt his pain through the each of the pages… and Kels, I loved how she loved him and didn’t give up on him. Kels was everything someone like Nick would need, the hope, the love, the stubbornness, and the downright refusal to give up.
Kels saw in Nick what Nick had never seen in himself and that was so beautiful to see… I also loved D-Man, I also connected with him… especially the part where he’s trying to push Nick, I totally got it – in a way that I will always, always love this book.
From cover to cover I felt the emotion and the ever-so-amazing way that LB can make you connect with her characters as if you really know them. If you’ve never read an LB book, I would strongly suggest you get on that. LB creates amazing worlds with characters that you fall in love with almost instantly.
Bravo to LB on another truly amazing book!
Suppression by Laramie Briscoe is the second book in her Laurel Springs Emergency Response Team series. This is the next generation awesomeness of the Moonshine Task Force series. So while readers of the the MTF books will get a kick out of the characters involvement in the LSERT series it is all about the new kids. Suppression is the story of Nick Kepler and Kelsea Harrison and is heartfelt, emotional, angsty and wonderful.
Nick was rescued by the Keplers when he was in his early teens. A life of abuse and neglect finally came to an end when he joined their family but it seems as though he has always been waiting for the other shoe to drop. As a result he has never allowed anyone too close outside of the Kepler’s. Even Kelsea and he has liked her for a long time.
Kelsea knows some of the trouble Nick has had to deal with but she is about done putting herself out there for him. While they excel at friendship he just can’t seem to let her in any closer than that. But as they both are drawn to each other and their feelings are obvious Nick is getting better at letting her close. But then an opportunity falls into their laps and they have to completely change their dynamic or risk another’s well-being.
Loved this so much. There has not been a Laramie book so far that I haven’t been invested in and this whole Laurel Springs family is one I love to visit again and again. Enjoy!
Suppression is an epically written love story, delivered with the hopeful, heartfelt, haunting flare of a Laramie Briscoe romance radiating from every page.
I swear there’s an invisible cord forever connecting my heart to every Laramie Briscoe romance (especially any of our MTF/Laurel Springs heroes), and Suppression is no different there. I was hooked from the start, addicted to the steaminess, the passion, the pain, the love, the heartbreak. I ate it all up until the very last page and now I need seconds in the form of the next Emergency Response Team. Stat. Code RED HOT.
Nick has massively intrigued me since meeting him in Ransom and he did not disappoint in this sexy, swoontastic, angstfest that tore at my heart and overheated my kindle! I cannot recommend the Laurel Springs gang enough to anyone that loves sexy alpha heroes and badass heroines.
Suppression is the second book in the Laurel Springs Emergency Response Team Series. It is fast-paced and well-written.
Nick and Kelsea’s story is from the heart and definitely worth the read.
Suppression was a great read. After reading Ransom and getting a small taste of Nick and Kelsea, I couldn’t wait for this book, and it didn’t disappoint. I loved the storyline and it flowed perfectly.
My heart was broken for Nick; no child should have to endure what he went through in his childhood. That made it hard for Nick to move on with his life as an adult. I loved Kelsea’s personality. She was so easy going but fought her whole life trying to win over Nick.
Suppression is the second book in the Laurel Springs Emergency Response Team Series. It can be read as a standalone, although I recommend reading book one, Ransom, first.
An abused child, adopted by a wonderful couple who already have a daughter of their own, the boy grows into a good, responsible young man who follows in his adoptive father’s footsteps. But the man still has the ghosts of his past haunting him, having him hold on to the ideas that if he never cares, never loves, no one will hurt him, the won’t leave him. But he never counted on the beauty that he has always liked, the daughter of one of his best friends, one of the best men he has ever known – aside from his own father that is. Kelsea, the beauty who is like sunshine to his dark soul, the one he has always wanted but never felt he could have because he was afraid he would be just like the man who raised and abused him. Nickolas Kepler knows the type of woman Kelsea is but he never imagined she would truly bulldoze her way right into his heart and latch on and not let go. They finally begin their relationship when one call changes their lives and their world forever. This is something that will either make them or break them. But with the family they have, all bets are that it will make them.
This is a beautiful heartbreaking, heartwarming story that will capture your attention and have you smiling widely when you reach the end. The characters are so very well written and so likable that you will want to be a part of their circle of friends, their “family”.
An extraordinary read that I cannot recommend highly enough.
This is the second book in the Laurel Springs Emergency Response Team series. I did read the first book, but I haven’t had a chance to read the first series This is a spinoff. I will admit, I did get confused in some places because I don’t know who is whose kid and what not.
Besides that, this story is well written. There were some parts that felt rushed to me. Like the whole fostering issue.
The characters are good. I did like them.
This held my attention better than the first book
I give this a 3.5
I don’t know how the author does is. Every Laurel Springs book manages to be even better than the one before it. Sweet and sexy and so full of big emotions. This is not a book you want to read out in public. The fact that that’s exactly what I did is the only reason I didn’t break down into a full-on ugly crying fit. My only option was to remain stoic and blink a lot to clear the tears from my vision. Kelsea is a sweetheart. I’ve adored her for as long as we’ve known her. Sassy, spunky, and utterly devoted to Nick, she’s always been one of my favorites. Nick repeatedly broke my heart. I just wanted to cuddle him close and convince him he was worthy of the love this amazing extended family lavished on him. The unexpected family situation this pair ends up in could only happen to these two. The whole emergency response family would have stepped up, but I’m not sure how many of them would have done so in the same way as Nick and Kels. I don’t know what we should be expecting next, but I know I need to read it as soon as I can get my hands on it.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of the book from the author.
Laramie Briscoe is quickly becoming one of my favorite go to authors. I can’t seem to get enough of these sweet sexy heroes and the independent, sassy heroines who love them.
Kelsea has loved Nick for forever, so when the chance for something real with him presents itself, she will not let his past stand in the way. I loved that Kelsea knew what she wanted and wasn’t afraid to go after it.
Nicks vulnerability is what endeared me to him from the start. But I fell head over heels in love with him when he decided to finally let Kelsea in. I couldn’t help but hope for him to get so happy.
I highly recommend you pick this one up. Suppression had me in all the feels! I am loving this series and I can’t wait to see what Briscoe brings us next.
Suppression is the second installment to Laramie Briscoe’s Laurel Springs Emergency Response Team Series. I got so excited knowing they were next after we first met Kelsea and Nick in Ransom (LSERT #1). I mean who doesn’t want a story of the shy girl who finally gets the boys she has wanted for years to see her and fall head over heels in love with her. Add to that Nick’s broody persona, and it seemed like a match made in romance heaven. However, it didn’t quite live up to my expectations, unfortunately. I loved the overall premise of the story, but I felt it fell a little flat. I had hoped to see more insights to Nick’s background, as well as see Kelsea, and Darren truly help him come to terms with his past. I loved getting some more insights into how Whitney, Renegade and Stella had helped in the past, but what I longed for, was the family unit of the present and the future. I felt that it got “fixed” a little too easy and she skipped a too quickly by, all the issues I imagine comes with an new instant family. Especially knowing where both Nick and Darren came from. This was a fairly low-angst book, as well as a relatively quick read, unfortunately, it just didn’t do it for me. Which is why Suppression gets 3.5 stars from me.
Heart wrenching, emotionally gripping story of self acceptance and the power of love and forgiveness. The beauty of romantic and familial love. Nick didn’t believe he was worthy of good, it took a determined Kelsea, and an innocent boy to open his eyes. Beautifully written.
Nick Kepler keeps everything locked away, including his feelings for Kelsea. He just can’t see himself as worthy of love after a childhood filled with pain. No matter how much it hurts when he pushes her away, Kelsea can’t give up on him. When Nick finally lets Kelsea in, it is becomes impossible to close himself off again. Suppression immediately breaks your heart as you experience all the pain and doubt Nick keeps inside. He can’t see himself the way others see him. As he starts to open up to Kelsea, I prayed he wouldn’t run and shut her out again. These two together were everything I hoped for and more. The man Nick has grown up to be is one any parent would be proud of. Kelsea really shines too; she is the girl you would want in your corner come what may. I don’t know that I can really express how much this story got to me. Nick and Kelsea grow together as a couple and it was absolutely amazing. Laramie Briscoe is such a phenomenal author, pulling you into the hearts and minds of her characters. Every new book by her becomes my new favorite and Suppression was no exception! Ten stars for Nick and Kelsea!
FINALLY we have Kelsea and Nick’s story and boy did it not disappoint! Nick had a rough life before he was adopted by the Kepler’s and still has issues that stem from his childhood, one of which is forming relationships. Kelsea has always held a torch for Nick and finally gets to the point where she might start giving up. Thankfully, Nick finally makes a move, but after making that move retreats into himself. Kelsea recognizes what Nick is doing, and decides to not let him take his typical route and continues to take it slow with him and be there for him as a friend first. When Nick’s professional and personal life collide, Kelsea is right by his side helping him to do not only what’s right, but helping Nick. With some more battles to break through, we thankfully get Kelsea her HEA that she so desperately wants with the guy she wants it with. Of course, another great read from Laramie and I can’t wait for the next installment in this series!!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This has a well written storyline that will have you going through the emotions with the characters. Wonderful characters that you can’t help but fall in love with. Nick has been through a lot growing up but was adopted by Ryan and Whitney Kepler. Kelsea is a strong woman and has always been there for Nick even when she wanted it to be more. Nick and Kelsea have ups and downs that they have to get through but finally decide what they need. Laramie Briscoe is always true to her characters and writes them so we can learn from their stories. I would definitely recommend this book but would suggest you start with the Moonshine Task Force to get to know the entire family. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
The Laurel Springs Emergency Response Team is turning out to be as explosive as it’s parent series. This series is about the 2 generation (the kids) of the Moonshine Taskforce. The author has given us another well written storyline that will tear at your heartstrings and keep you in suspense as you fly through the pages.
Kelsea has been in love with Nick as long as she can remember. But she has her doubts that he will ever take things beyond friendship. But it doesn’t keep her from wishing with all her heart. As for Nick, he learned at a young age not to show any emotions and you won’t get hurt, so no matter what he “wants” he knows he has to hold Kelsea at bay.
One drunken night they both let their guard down. But in the light of day, while Kelsea is in heaven, Nick knows he’s messed up and not good enough for Kelsea, so he walks away.
Can Kelsea convince Nick he’s worth it, that they are worth fighting for? Or will she finally be convinced they weren’t meant to be and move on.
This is a very emotional, exciting, suspenseful romance that hold your heart captive. I Highly recommend Suppression and all the Laurel Springs books (Moonshine Task Force series & the Emergency Response Team series). 2 Thumbs Up 5 Amazing Stars!!!!
Kelsea has been in love with Nick for years. Nick, however, is afraid of having a relationship because of his past. They finally are beginning a tentative relationship when Nick responds to a child welfare check twice for the same boy. In the blink of an eye, he and Kelsea have a family.
I enjoyed the first book in the series, and I really liked this one as well. Since everyone in the cast of characters are either related or practically family, there is a lot of character crossover but these are standalone books. I liked how Kelsea finally asked Nick for what she wanted, and wouldn’t put up with his avoidance after. I also liked how Nick finally got his head out of his behind and dealt with his feelings. But most of all, I love so much how Nick was with Darren. He and Kelsea are exactly what that boy needed and he is just what Nick needed as well.
This book is the second in the Laurel Springs Series, but well down the line for the characters of the Moonshine Task Force. It *can* be read as a standalone, but gives much deeper context if you’ve at least started with Ransom! This world of characters is very full and it’s nice to have everyone straight before diving in.
We finally get Nick and Kelsea’s story! After Ransom and Stelle’s wedding these two come together, and then Nick’s head gets in the way once again. He’s caught up in where he came from, not who he actually is… but she loves him anyway. Watching them figure things out with the introduction of Darren, a kid with a childhood a lot like Nick’s was, is a lovely way to unfold things.
As always, the family around these characters is entertaining, wholesome and this world is always wonderful to visit! Recommend this hometown feeling romance with some spice, some real and some fun.
Kelsea and Nick are in for the ride of their lives in their adventure of past, present and future. Suppression is the second book in the LSERT series the feature Kelsea and Nick. Kelsea is the daughter of Menace and Nick is the son of Renegade. Who knew that Nick would grow up to be this great man that can love someone so hard but forgets about himself. Kelsea is all grown up too and has been in love with Nick since the Kepler’s brought him home. Nick has grown up to think that he does not deserve the love he has been receiving and that Kelsea is too good for him. Kelsea is fighting everyday to show him that is worth the love she has to give him. Their story is one of family, love and passion while fighting the demons of the past. They will both be taking a risk when they encounter a situation that will take Nick into taking a look into himself. They both will get the surprise of their lives when they take something meaningful and scary at the same time. Kelsea and Nick must find a way to accept the love they have for one another to help another person feel loved.
I loved Suppression and what it represents because there was no drama taking over the storyline. Everything just feel into place and I love when scenes flow right into the other. There is also POV’s from the parents and that makes it all that much better. Nick and Kelsea’s story is sweet and is a true romance because those two together are beautiful. There is also a rawness to it that we expected being that Nick thinks he is broken and damaged beyond repair. Kelsea is the true heroine of the story because she is there to help him see he is more and that there are people who do love him. I love the MTF family and now we get glimpses at what their life is like that their kids are grown up and having lives. Great addition to the series and I can’t wait to read more.
After Ransom and Stella’s story I have been eagerly looking forward to Nick’s story. He is such a complex character, one that certainly has justifications for being the way he is however his stubborn self is his downfall too. In saying that I feel awful though because how can you not love Nick Kepler? You just want to wrap him up and smuggle him home with you.
Kelsea Harrison has just about given up thinking that she has a chance with Nick, he’s so stubborn. She has an inner strength that helps her through a lot in her life too but more importantly she cares deeply for others and acts on it, she also places her trust in these same people and showing trustworthiness back.
This story is everything I had hoped for and more, I absolutely love it. It
has a romance that is sweet but different too, suspense and drama, real life problems, some fun banter, a true wonderful sense of family and all of the emotions that go hand in hand with each of these. Wrapped up together it creates one terrific story that is fast paced and very easy to read, my only problem is that it ended!
This next generation series is every bit as good as the Moonshine Task Force series. I really love reading about those characters as well. Great story, I recommend it highly.

Y’all, this book will get you in all the feels. It will leave you heartbroken and overjoyed, and angry and smiling. First, we get to see our good friends from the first LSERT book, Ransom. If you haven’t read it, go back and do so. I think you could enjoy Suppression without reading it, but I’m not sure why you’d want to. Ms. Brisco has created a large and wonderful book universe that this book ties into.
Suppression’s story follows Nick and Kelsea. They are the best friends to a newly married couple and friends themselves. But Kelsea wants more and has loved NIck for years. Nick is still dealing with a traumatic childhood and learning to let love in. Seeing that angst and love and strength and vulnerability unfold for both made for a one of a kind book!
Kelsea may be one of my favorite character’s written by Ms. Briscoe. She’s smart, she’s strong, she’s patient. And when she decides to put her feelings on the line, she does so with grace and compassion. She’s an unfailing friend, yet despite this list of attributes, she’s still a truly relatable woman with breakdowns and tears and struggles. I wasn’t sure what to make of Nick as we came into this story. He had a brief introduction in the MTF series; then we saw him in Ransom as a young man. He’s obviously making good choices and a classic strong police officer. Reading his backstory was both eye-opening and frustrating and joyful. He reminds me a bit of the Winnie-the-Pooh character Eyeore, part of the crowd, but on the edge and not happy and not-unhappy. So to see how he and Kelsea partner up and take on the world was a truly amazing read!
We knew from the blurb that Kelsea was attracted to Nick. A few chapters in we saw some of NIck’s feelings for Kelsea. The attraction and chemistry was there, but it led a real life twisty-turny path. But no matter the path, Nick showed he was unable to withstand the pull of his attraction to Kelsea and make use of some x-rated skills.
The beginning of this book pulled the long time reader in quickly, and then delved into this books plot. It was a fun way to connect the stories. All along the plotline, the writing had me experiencing the characters emotions to keep me reading as quickly as possible. The dialogue, friendships, family ties, and great world building that Ms. Briscoe has woven into this story are some of her finest.
I loved this books Epilogues. Keep reading to the second one, as those last few pages seal the deal on this book. Suppression to me seems an end of an era for the MTF family, but I know there are many secondary characters with stories left to tell that belong to the LSERT. I have no doubt that their stories will be as amazing and intriguing!
