As you know I do love Annie Rains. Her Sweetwater Springs series has been so good. I’ve really enjoyed the characters and the writing. Each time I get one of her books in my hand I just want to sit down and do nothing until it’s finished.
Let’s talk about Sunshine on Silver Lake. I really liked these two. They are so meant to be together but neither can man up and tell the other. Instead, they play this dance of one step in, two steps back. This happens for most of the book. Usually, that might annoy me but for some reason with them, it didn’t. I think it’s because of how the author set up the story.
They had a few things going against them that you learn about as you read the story but even with their few issues they are able to work through them in no time once they realized what they mean to each other.
I totally understand why Emma felt the way she did about her stepmom and was glad she was able to deal with it.
I was also glad that the author didn’t gloss over a major plot point of the story. I don’t want to mention too much and give it away so I’ll leave it to you to read it and figure out what I’m talking about.
This is a wonderful story of love and family and all the issues you have with them. But since it’s a romance you have a HEA with both the romance and family. I think you’ll enjoy the Hershey parts. I know I did. I’m really looking forward to more by this author and hope to see Jack and Emma in them.
This is another touching, heartbreaking as well as heartwarming story in this wonderful series.
This time the story belongs to Jack Hershey and Emma St James.
Even after Jack was a no show date on her prom, they have remained friends.
Jack never told her the real reason of his no-show, and that he has feelings for her. That actions of that day changed his life.
When Jack’s sister asks him to take care of her son while she’s taking care of herself, somehow a fake relationship is created. Giving Jack a second chance with Emma.
This touching story reminds us that though our actions in the past might have taken us down the wrong road, we also have the ability to overcome the obstacles and become a better person because of it. Also, that no one knows what the future has in store for us and we shouldn’t let fear keep us from allowing us to love and be loved.
This is another winner in this series.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley and Forever. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
3.75 stars-SUNSHINE ON SILVER LAKE is the fifth instalment in Annie Rains’ contemporary, adult SWEETWATER SPRINGS romance series focusing on the people of Sweetwater Springs, North Caroline. This is café owner Emma St. James, and park ranger Jack Hershey’s story line. SUNSHINE ON SILVER LAKE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Emma and Jack) SUNSHINE ON SILVER LAKE follows the friends to lovers, second chance relationship between café owner Emma St. James, and park ranger Jack Hershey. Emma St James has struggled with her friendship and relationship with Jack Hershey since the night Jack ‘forgot’ to pick up Emma for their senior prom. Fast forward to present day wherein, Emma, the owner of the Sweetwater Café, makes a promise to herself to finish her late mother’s ‘bucket list’ of things to do starting with completing a 5K run in support of the Women’s Wellness Center.
Meanwhile, Jack Hershey, the local park ranger, finds himself looking after his fifteen year old nephew, for the summer, having left the impression that he and Emma were in a couple’s relationship. As Emma makes preparations for the upcoming fund raiser, Jack finds himself drawn to the woman whose heart he destroyed years before. What ensues is the rebuilding romance and relationship between Jack and Emma, and the potential fall-out as Emma struggles with what is and what may never be.
The relationship between Emma and Jack is a second chance relationship; a high school sweethearts whose friendship was destroyed when our hero ‘forgot’ to pick up Emma for the prom but all is not as it appears to be when Jack finally reveals what happened and why . Battling between head and heart, Emma is quick to forgive for sins of the past but not so much her father, whose lack of respect for Jack Hershey is another matter. The $ex scenes are all implied.
There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters. We are introduced to Emma’s father Edward and his wife Angel; Jack’s sister Amanda, her son Sam, and newcomer Diana; as well as several previous story line characters including Halona, Brenna, co-worker Nina and fudge shop owner Dawanda.
SUNSHINE ON SILVER LAKE is a story of family, friendships, secrets and lies; of love, loss, revelations and acceptance. The premise is sweet with a little bit of drama; the romance is tender; the characters are charming but I struggled with the heroine’s need to hold a grudge against the man who has called to heart, as well as the woman with who her father has fallen in love.
I enjoy reading second chance romances and small town romances so Sunshine on Silverlake by Annie Rains which is the fifth book in her Sweetwater Springs series was a very enjoyable read for me. Emma and Jack are the perfect couple. Sweetwater Springs is a great series so far. Annie Rains writes super small town romance.
I enjoy reading books by Annie Rains. This book is about Emma and Jack. They have background and they both have things in their past they are trying to overcome. This is a great story and I enjoyed being with them as they learn who they really are and what they really want. The storyline is great and deals with real life problems. Loved the characters and they way they inner act with each other. I received this book from NetGalley, but my opinion is my own.
This delightful story deals with issues of addiction, cancer and self-awareness, moving beyond past conceptions, family relationships, and keeping secrets. They are handled well as they are woven into a heartwarming story filled with charming characters, second chances, and the support of family and good friends. This is a great small town romance and I look forward to a return to Sweetwater Springs.
