Mila risked her career to claim the executive director position at Marina Ranch. The upscale retirement community attracts the best of Biloxi, but nothing has prepared her for a local firefighter’s protective instincts or the way her stomach drops when Blake walks into the room. The retirement community’s feisty residents do their best to push Mila into Blake’s arms, but their priorities shift … priorities shift when a fire devastates a local food bank and the residents rally their network of resources to demonstrate Biloxi’s resilience. As Aunt Rose says, “The heart of a place isn’t in its history, it’s in what happens next.”

Sunset Dreams by Amy Craig is such a marvelous romance filled with sweet love, elderly shenanigans, and true to life difficulties.
Will Mila choose love over her career?
Mila Pullman
Our main character is Mila Pullman. She moves to Biloxi, Alabama, for work. She is the new executive director at a new retirement community. Mila works most of the time and truly cares for the elderly living in Marina Ranch. However, Mila doesn’t enjoy life; she is focused on her career and meeting the goals that the corporation has set for her.
I like Mila’s dedication, honesty, and ability to connect with the residents. She has a big heart. The only negative thing I found was that she doesn’t call home much, even though she talks about her family. However, she could be so busy meeting her goal that she doesn’t have time.
Blake Darling
Blake’s adoptive mom is Rose Darling. She is wealthy, and Blake wants to make sure that no one takes advantage of her. Blake has made himself Rose’s protector. He is a firefighter and paramedic that works on his off-shift days at the local hospital. You could say that Blake has a chip on his shoulder and wants to prove he is worthy of being a Darling. Blake has wonderful friends, which is where you can find him if he isn’t working or at the gym.
I also like Blake, it took me a bit to warm up to his gruff style, but once I was there, I found him delightful. I adore the fact that he keeps trying even when the previous attempts didn’t pan out well. The only thing that bothers me is he thinks of his birth mother often, but he is afraid to actually track down the records.
The Story
OMG! The story is adorable; the characters are so realistic, the romance is lovely. I loved that we see life in the retirement community, and the residents want to be useful. They don’t want to throw money at community issues. They want to assist with the solution. The calendar idea is fabulous, but the food bank idea was ingenious. I also like the way the seniors found love, companionship, and friendship in their community. And let’s not forget the romance, Blake and Mila are wonderful together is fun watching them get it together.

Mila is the executive director of The Marina Ranch in Biloxi. She took this job to prove that she could turn this luxury retirement community around and fill all the apartments up. Her goal is to make sure everyone is happy with their living arrangements.
Blake, a firefighter, brought his adopted Aunt Rose to The Marina Ranch for an appointment to see if she would like to live there since her eye sight is going bad. Blake does not like Mila and does everything he can to stop his aunt from moving in.
Blake sees Mila dancing with her doctor friend and it finally hits him that he just might like her. They go out on a date and I am not telling any more. you will have to read it for yourself.
I really enjoyed this book and can not wait to read more by this author.

Mila has risked it all to take on the job of Executive Director at Marina Ranch, and the pressure is on to perform. While trying to fill the last of the luxury retirement apartments, she falls in love with the residents. You can see it in the way she really knows each of them as individuals, not just clients or people to take care of. When a new potential client, Rose, walks through the door with her hunky adopted son – we see potential hearts all around.
But convincing Blake that Marina Ranch is the right place for Rose proves to be a challenge, one that Mila is more than willing to take on. And when they are pushed together by their mutual attraction, things don’t go exactly as planned. In fact, they sort of fail in a hilariously miserable way. Through the series of disasterous dates, both Mila and Blake I was able to really see both of their personalities and watch them grow, as they both had lessons to learn from each other – about letting go, being yourself, and looking to the future.
Several of the residents of Marina Ranch play supporting roles in the book, and I loved each of them. Throw out the stereotypical elderly person, and get ready to meet the quirky and fun-loving residents who are willing to team up for a good cause. I looked forward to their interactions and conversations, and they brought an added dimension to the book in the sense of a community around our couple.
Sunset Dreams is a touching and fun romance between two stubborn and carreer-driven people. On the surface, you would never pair Mila and Blake together, but through the pages, they open up and find out they are perfect for each other.

I enjoyed the banter and relationships of the elders at Marina Ranch. I also enjoyed the developing romance between Mila and Blake. This was a fun read, sweet and clean.
