Mallory Westbrook is ready to make her move on Jake Summerford, the boy – now man – she’s been crushing on for years. Coming back to Magnolia Sound to celebrate her great-grandfather’s birthday provides the perfect opportunity to show Jake that she’s no longer a child. The last thing Jake expected to do at his mentor’s birthday party was to find himself kissing Mallory under the moonlight. Though … moonlight. Though he’s known her for years, the thought of kissing her never crossed his mind. But the shy tomboy he once knew is gone, and in her place is a woman he can’t resist.
They have one summer before they go their separate ways. Insecurity wars with the possibility of a future together, but it could all come to an end before it even has a chance to start.

I am so excited for this new series by one of my favorite authors! Samantha Chase has a way to completely pull you into the story. Her words wrapped around me and it felt like I was no longer reading a story, but actually there, in the story.
I fell in love with Mallory and Jake and all the secondary characters. I loved seeing the beginning of their relationship, all the emotions, the struggle and heartbreak. There is a cliffhanger, but it’s one that’s vital to the story as this is a prequel. Knowing the start of the series is right around the corner, makes this not an issue at all. Even if I had to wait longer, it would still be worth it. I mean, hello, this is Samantha Chase!! You know this is going to be a spectacular series and I can’t wait for more!
Jake and Mallory’s love story did not end as happily as it started, and as I hoped, in Sunkissed Days, the prequel novel for Samantha Chase’s new Magnolia Sound series. We meet Mallory and Jake, her girlhood crush turned summer lover, as she stays in Magnolia Sound to help her great-grandfather Zeke with the Coleman house and grounds before she goes back to college. Watching the love between Jake and Mallory grow was wonderful but knowing that roadblocks and real life would be in their way, they really need to get past all that would be heartbreaking. They also really needed to communicate and not believe all that you hear or mishear while eavesdropping.
Just when things get good the story takes a twist and leaves you with wanting to know more about what will happen between Jake and Mallory. Ms. Chase gives a hint of the direction the story goes in Remind Me, book one. Six years have passed and an idea of what Jake and Mallory have done during that time is given. The first few pages of Remind me teases and I need to know how Mallory and Jake work out their differences and stubbornness, I need to know about Pops and I need to know about Sam, Mallory’s twin brother who seems to be dealing with something we are not made aware of; hopefully a future book will answer that concern.
Ms. Chase provided an emotional tale rich with sexual chemistry, amusing banter, strong family connections and endearing characters; leaving me hanging. I highly recommend Sunkissed Days to other readers and can’t wait to read more about this family from Magnolia Sound and see what else is in store for us readers.
I first read this story over the summer in Ms. Chase’s newsletter. I just read it again and was delighted by it once more. Aside from being excited by a new series to read and enjoy this was a really good short read! I loved reading about Jake and Mallory and can not wait to read more of them in the next book. This book does end a small not bad cliffhanger that honestly just leaves you anxious to read the next one because the story is so good!
Sunkissed Days
This is a great prequel introducing us to Jake and Mallory. While Mallory is determined to prove to Jake that she is all grown up, Jake tries to stay focused on the her age, in his eyes she will always be young.
Mallory has her eyes and her heart set on Jake, but how far is she willing to go. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series to see how all of the push and pull between them plays out.
A Prequel…but what’s next?
Sunkissed Days is the prequel to Samantha Chase’s new Magnolia Sound series. Be aware, that as the prequel, it is a cliff-hanger. If that bothers you, wait for following books in the series before reading.
Mallory is headed back to Magnolia Sound to attend her grandfather’s 90th birthday. This is the place she always felt most at ease. It’s also where she has crushed on Jake, but never acted in her feelings. This summer, she has plans to change that! Jake never considered Mallory as anything except a friend. When they share a kiss at her grandfather’s birthday, he is conflicted! But she’s his mentor’s granddaughter and he works for the man. Not to mention, he holds that man in very high regard. They have 1 summer to explore their feelings. At the end of the summer, they are separated by a distance that love will need to endure.
This is a story of young love, family, friends, hurts, broken hearts, and heart wrenching goodbyes. I can’t wait for the next book in this series!
I was provided with an ARC of this book and I am providing my honest review. I have received no compensation of any kind from any source for this review.
Samantha Chase is starting a new series, Magnolia Sound. Mallory has had a crush on Jake for a few years but some how Jake never knew it. Jake is four years older and a family friend. They have a wonderful summer together but it is time for Mallory to head back to college and Jake to figure out if he is headed to college. The best part about the ending is in a few weeks you will have the answer to those questions and more as the first book in the series comes out.
Can’t wait to see what other books follow, hopefully a story about Sam and why he does not like the town as much as the others, and Mason, the cousin everybody dislikes. I have a feeling Magnolia Sound is going to be another great series in a long list of favorites by Chase.
Sunkissed Days is a great read for anyone who remembers what it feels like to be in love with a boy who does not see you. Mallory loves secretly and from afar until one summer when she decides to take matters into her own hands. When Jake finally sees her he realizes what he has been missing but can it last past the summer? I am impatiently waiting for the next book, Remind Me, because I cannot wait to see what happens next.
A charming prequel! Fair warning, this prequel will definitely leave you wanting the next book in the series immediately, but it’s SO worth the back story between Mallory and Jake. Love is the last thing that either of them are looking for, especially knowing they’re both leaving for college at the end of the summer, but it doesn’t stop how they feel. I especially loved Zeke and can’t wait to see how the story plays out in Remind Me!
Sunkissed Days by Samantha Chase
5++++ Stars
Oh my!! What an awesome prequel to a great new series! Loved loved it so much! I absolutely can’t wait for more books in this series!!
I love Magnolia Sound! Sam and Mallory Westbrook are twins. Their great grandfather, Ezekiel Coleman, is turning ninety years old. The whole town is involved because Ezekiel is the last surviving original founder of Magnolia Sound.
I can’t wait for book one to come out! This prequel really got me hooked!! Love the characters! Highly recommend!
This was a great prequel to the new Magnolia Sound series by Samantha Chase. I fell in love with the setting, the family and of course Pops. I enjoyed getting to know everyone especially Mallory and Jake. This was such a great book with so much happening; I can’t wait to see what’s next. I’m counting down the days to the next book Remind Me.
Such a fun way to kick of a series with some fun, flirting, and love. Samantha Chase knows how to set the tone. Sunkissed Days is a new favorite of mine. I just loved Mallory and Jake. Mallory was an ordinary girl growing up but had a thing for Jake and he never paid her any mind. Their summer together turned from friends to lovers. What a great way yo set the ton for this new series Magnolia Sound.
5 Perfect Start to a New Series Stars
There’s nothing I love more than starting a new series and this prequel to Ms. Chase’s Magnolia Sound series hit all the right buttons for me. This is where we learn what we’re in store for with this series AND we get the beginnings of a second chance love story between Mallory and Jake.
Mallory has returned home to Magnolia Sound after a few years away and she runs into her old crush Jake but she’s so much more than the tomboy he remembers, and the chemistry is burning bright between them.
This book is filled with all the things I love about this author, humor, a chemistry that can’t be denied and a not so smooth love story with lots of family involvement. I mean it can’t be that simple can it? There’s a definite pull between these two, but at the end of the Summer Mallory has to return to school and leave Jake behind. And just when I thought it was going to be a different story, BAM! Ms. Chase throughs something at us that I really wasn’t expecting and now I REALLY need Remind Me because we’re going to get the full story!!!
There’s really nothing quite like the youth and innocence of a first love. Mallory and her twin brother, Sam, have been friends with Jake Summerford for years, always picking up where they left off the previous summer when they return to their great grandfather’s place on Magnolia Sound. But the summer after Mallory turns twenty, Jake sees her in a whole new light, and even the fact that he’s Sam’s best friend and four years older than Mallory can’t keep him from acting on his new feelings. For Mallory, it’s been a long time coming, because she’s had a crush on Jake most of her life.
The small beach community of Magnolia Sound is one of those fictional places I would make my permanent home, if possible. I adore the Westbrook family, but especially Pops, the family patriarch who makes me wish immortality were possible, even in contemporary romance. The setting is vivid and the characters colorful, inviting the reader to immerse herself in this delightful story.
Sunkissed Days is the beginning of Jake and Mallory’s story and covers one glorious summer of them falling in love and capturing every possible moment of time together before reality intrudes and they both leave Magnolia Sound for college. Chase captures the sweet innocence of their young love through her writing style and by leaving the details of intimate encounters to the reader’s imagination. This beautifully written, poignant story will whet your appetite for the rest of Jake and Mallory’s journey to forever, which we’ll get in Remind Me. You’ll be happiest if you read these two books together, and I have no doubt you’ll love these characters as much as I do!

Hang on to your heart! The prequel to Samantha Chase’s new series Magnolia Sound. It gives us a story and also a peek into Mallory and Jake. Mallory has crushed on Jake since she was a little girl. Since he was older he never paid much attention to the little tomboy. Now as a more mature Mallory, she returns to Magnolia Sound for two reasons, to celebrate her great grandfathers birthday and to show Jake that she’s no longer a child. This is a delightful story before the story. I look forward to this series from Ms. Chase
A new series by Samantha Chase!
In Sunkissed Days Mallory Westbrook finally gets Jake Summerford to realize she’s no longer a little girl.
Mallory is in Magnolia Sound for the summer to help her Grandfather before she heads off to another year of college. Jake works for her Grandfather (Pop’s) construction company and is heading off to college, though 4 years later than normal, himself this fall. It was wonderful to see these two finally let themselves give into a summer fling. Though Mallory is hoping for more.
An overhead conversation leads to a misunderstanding that could end their relationship before it has a chance to get off the ground.
I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
4 stars
Sunkissed Days by Samantha Chase is the prequel of a lovely new Magnolia Sound series. Our main characters are young adults (20 somethings) with all the agnst that goes along with that but there was a deeper push and pull indicative of great writing. It was definitely enough to pique your interest to pick up the next book!
I enjoyed the characters but none more than the great-grandfather “pops” who steals the show! The ending of the book was a tad heartbreaking but sets up the next book nicely! Can’t wait to read more!

This prequel introduces us to Ms. Chases new Magnolia Sound series and what a wonderful introduction!!! It has ALL the emotional elements that make Ms. Chase’s books so AMAZING!! The characters tug on your heartstrings and are so relatable. We’ve all had that teenage crush so we can put ourselves in Mallory’s shoes when it comes to her feelings for Jake. Also her relationship with her great-grandfather really resonated with me as I spent all my summers with my grandparents and they are some of the happiest times of my life. This is what makes Ms. Chase’s books so INCREDIBLE we invest in the characters because we can relate to them. I would definitely recommend this book and I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. I was given an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
This series is going to be awesome if the start is anything to go by. She has created this tight knit little community of Magnolia sound with a patriarch who is all out eccentric, loved, and revered by all. He is grouchy, observant, and wise. I’m hoping he will be the voice of reason in the community as Samantha starts building relationships. He does a great job of trying to advise the first two Mallory and Jake. So suffice it to say, I loved all the characters in this one.
Mallory is a plucky young adult determined to make a play for her heartthrob no matter the obstacle. She wants to know she at least tried to make him see her. Which I loved. She is old enough to have looked at things and knows what she wants and is fearless enough to try to get it. Jake on the other hand has this manly idea that men know best and you don’t share your feelings or your fears with others. This makes him hardheaded and in my opinion an idiot. This is why I’m only giving this book 4 of 5 because their love story is hot and steamy, but he is doing everything he can to mess it up.
We leave this couple with a cliffhanger, which you would expect since it’s only a prequel. Good for us she has the next one releasing in a couple weeks. The love story is exciting and hot even though you’ll be mad at Jake in the end of this one. Just wait, Samantha always delivers on a Happily Ever After.
I absolutely love Samantha Chase’s writing. I’m so excited I got to read this intro to a new series of hers, Magnolia Sound. I loved getting to know Mallory and Jake as well as the Westbrook family I’m sure will play a part in the series. This was a great intro to their history when they’re young and embarking on life. I can’t wait to read the next edition to see what happens with them in the present! I know there is more to Mallory and Jake’s story!!
Full of warm, sexy and loving moments that made my heart soar and my body tingle. Samantha Chase takes us back in time to meet the Westbrook Family as they come together to honor and celebrate the patriarch Ezekiel Westbrook, “Pops” for his ninetieth birthday. As one of the original founders of Magnolia Sound most of the town is also included in the celebrations. I just really loved Pops, he is such a warm and wonderful character that everyone respects and looks up too.
But the best part of this preview is the relationship between Jake Summerford and Mallory Westbrook. Mallory has had a crush on Jake for years but she totally captures his attention this summer. Their heartwarming coming together took me back in time, with all the feels and emotions of young, first love as well as the loss, emotions and heartache when everything doesn’t go as planned.
So once again, as always in this prequel Samantha Chase manages to get inside my heart and soul. Staying there long after I’ve read the last page. I am anxiously awaiting the next book in this series, and I need it now!!!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
