Grim Reaper Charley Davidson is back in the final installment of Darynda Jones’ New York Times bestselling paranormal series–Summoned to Thirteenth Grave. Charley Davidson, Grim Reaper extraordinaire, is pissed. She’s been kicked off the earthly plane for eternity -which is exactly the amount of time it takes to make a person stark, raving mad. But someone’s looking out for her, and she’s … looking out for her, and she’s allowed to return after a mere hundred years in exile. Is it too much to hope for that not much has changed? Apparently it is. Bummer.
She’s missed her daughter. She’s missed Reyes. She’s missed Cookie and Garrett and Uncle Bob. But now that she’s back on earth, it’s time to put to rest burning questions that need answers. What happened to her mother? How did she really die? Who killed her? And are cupcakes or coffee the best medicine for a broken heart? It all comes to a head in an epic showdown between good and evil in this final smart and hilarious novel.

I’ve read all the books in this series and was sad this was the last one, but Darynda did not disappoint once again. I laughed, I cried, and fell in love with the main characters all over again. I can’t wait to read whatever is next on Darynda’s agenda. I’m a fan for life.
I’ve love this series from beginning to end!! This was a whirlwind of a book! It provides us a complete story and answers questions the reader might be dieing to know and we find out things we had no idea about either. It’s an emotional read it provides high and lows for the reader but definitely worth the read! I loved the flow overall and couldn’t put it down and it’s bittersweet because I knew the end was coming and the author did an amazing job but I will miss the series and I hope to read more by the author. I highly recommend to any beloved fan of the authors work.
The last Charley Davidson book! I’m trying not to cry. But I have faith that there will be more…

Although I jumped in with both feet into this book not realizing that it is Book 13 in a series, it is so freaking good! Summoned to the Thirteenth Grave by Darynda Jones takes you on a trip you will never forget. It took me a bit to wrap my head around all the characters and who they were but each character has such a unique personality that I have fallen in LOVE with this book. Now I just need to go back and start from book one.
Charlie “Grim Reaper” was exiled for over a hundred years for stepping in and saving a life. She would do it over and over again if needed. Charlie is full of adventure, not saying all her plans go as planned as that girl charges in like a bull in a china shop with everything she does. It took me a bit to figure out what the Grim Reaper part meant is this book since I hadn’t read in order but once I found out, I could not imagine knowing my life was for that reason. A reason that helps someone like that is heartwarming but also heart-wrenching. The part with her sister, Oh My Goodness! You about had me in tears. And then the end…. Really?!?! I have only read this one book in the series and I am freaking out on how this one ended.
Reyes, wow, a man of very few words but all you need is his presence in this book to feel him. Just the power this book emits for Reyes is fantastic. Yes, I know who exactly Reyes is but Darynda Jones does an AMAZING job writing him.
There are tons of characters in this book I am dying to find out about. I’m ready for a rainy day so that I can curl up and start this series from the start. Just thinking about it makes me think “What an adventure”.
Perfect ending for a long series, which is never easy. This one managed to be both upbeat and very final, with no loose ends to trouble the readers. The story was about nothing less than the end of the world, though it was kept in the backburner for most of the book as other crimes took precedence. Everything was handled with the usual Charley gusto — and attention span, though she wasn’t quite so ADHD as usually. There were more sad moments than laugh-out-funny ones, which is to be expected from the final book. There were also a couple of what-the-heck twists, both of which could’ve used better foreshadowing to make an impact. Now they were sort of lost in the story. But all in all, a very good book that managed to leave me feeling happy instead of sad that the series has ended. Well done.
Thank you Darynda Jones for a Great ending to a Great series. For new comers this is not the book to start with, go to the beginning, and enjoy the ride. This book is a reunion of almost every character we have grown to care for and giving them the loving closer they deserve. Looking forward to Beeps beginning.
I was very disappointed in the conclusion of this series. I was hoping for something more.
I don’t know how I’m going to function anymore. This series is overrrrrr!!! I can’t let go of all the wonderful characters in this series. I loved them all!!
I hope that Darynda Jones starts a new series about Beep soon because the setup is all there!
In this final story, Charley, Reyes, and the gang have to fight against something impossible. In the previous books, Charley and Reyes opened the god glass to free innocent souls. What they didn’t know was that Reyes Farrow’s monsters are coming out and infecting humans… and it’s spreading.
The entire book is bitter sweet as we say goodbye to everyone. There are also some big surprises involved, but it felt like surprises might have not been originally planned at the series beginning. Nonetheless, I loved this series. I will miss Charley’s humor, energy, and addiction to coffee.
This has been a much anticipated read for me and for a lot of other fans. It is the final book in the Charlie Davidson series and talking about WOW! Darynda Jones outdid herself! This book was absolutely amazing! And talk about some shocking moments! Phew!!! This book had me in its grasp from the get go! I am sad to see the series end but it ended just like I imagined it would and then some! Thank you Darynda Jones for an amazing series!
Firstly, I am so sad this is the last Charley/Reyes/Grave book. I have loved them for years and will always want more. But that ending left it open for a spin off, so I guess I’ll survive.
We get back to Charley when she is brought back to Earth after spending over 100 yrs exiled for bring Amber back to life. I do wish I had re-read the 12th just to get a grasp of all that happened. But most of the things were reexplained. I think there was only one person I couldn’t place.
Anyway, when the god glass broke it left a portal to the hell dimension and all ‘hell’ is breaking loose in New Mexico.
We get the hot steamy Reyes/Charley scenes. We get the whit and humor we have grown to love, we get our favorite characters interacting with each other and of course a few spirits to solve.
While I would have LOVED to have had this book twice as long with a bit more depth of the situation as some things did feel rushed, I still hold out hope for a spin off.
I have waited for this final installment in the Charley Daniels series. It was great reading and story telling. Lots of unexpected twists, but as the final installment it did help to give us some closure. I can only hope there will be a spinoff for Beep.
Summoned to Thirteenth Grave is the final book in the Charley Davidson series by author Darynda Jones. As it is the culmination of events spanning twelve books I had a lot of questions I wanted answers for, characters I wanted to visit one last time, and of course a big bang at the end. Well, I got most of those. The book was nerve wracking, frustrating, exciting, tear jerking, laugh out loud funny, and at times sexy, too. It had all the revelations I was looking for, not to mention several surprises! This is a must read for fans of the series but it isn’t recommended as a stand alone. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the advance digital copy for review. All opinions are my own. Review posted on NetGalley, Amazon, Goodreads, and BookBub.
I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
It was a great book!
Charley is back on Earth + ready to kick ass.
100 years in exile was torture.
It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book!
I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
This series! I loved every single page of all thirteen books. Charley, Reyes, Cookie, Uncle Bob, and the rest of the crew will stay with me for a long time. The series is funny, sexy, and the mystery draws you in.
13th grave shredded me. The story was so suspenseful and enrapturing I hung on every word. There were so many twists and surprises in the story line. My heart was shredded by all of the goodbyes and the thought that the series was ending brought on all the emotions. Darynda didn’t disappoint on her WTF endings that I have come to love. I now need to figure out how to move on. Maybe I can do that with a series about Beep and her army?
Summoned to Thirteenth Grave is the conclusion to the Charley Davidson series but likely not the end of the world Darynda Jones created. Many loose ends were tied up in this edition but many more await for the new series. I want to know where Osh is & what role Nathaniel will play!! This story was fun, entertaining, sensual, & heart breaking. I laughed and cried. The narrator did a fantastic job with providing unique voices for each character and appropriate tone inflections for each scene; speed of reading was perfect!
This is the final book in Charlie and Reyes’s story. After being exiled for one hundred years, Charlie returns to earth. She was in the darkness for at least one hundred years, in reality, she was only gone ten days. So it begins. There are many loose ends to solve in this final chapter. We find out how Charlie’s mother actually died, who Uncle Bob really is, who Rocket and his sister are and why he constantly writes names on the walls, what happened to Gemma in her office, along with her usual detective work, as well as the prophecy about the up coming battle. All of these events leading up to the war against Lucifer.
I read this book in one night. I couldn’t put it down. I was anxious to see what was going to happen next. During many parts of the story, I actually said out loud, “no way.” What happened to Gemma and who Uncle Bob really was had me pausing a minute to process. This book wrapped up a lot of loose ends and is preparing us for the spinoff of Beep’s books. It was very hard to write this review without giving away some of the juicy parts. Anyone who has read the other twelve books, will not be disappointed with the resolution of what happened to the characters we have come to know. The last few pages tell us what happened to Charlie and Reyes and the major decision they chose to make to keep Beep safe. We are also left with a feeling of anticipation as Darynda Jones writes her last sentence, “Where’s Osh?” Looking forward to Beep’s series.
I’m super sad that this it’s going to be the last book of the series but at the same time I’m glad that we got our big finale. I try my hardest to read this really slowly I mean how do you write a review for this bittersweet finale. I was absolutely stunned by the ending!!!! So many unexpected turn of events took place that left you speechless and sobbing mess. Also don’t expect this book to only focus on the battle, if you know Charley, she can multitask like no other. Overall a enjoyable and entertaining read. I’m sad it’s over, but I’m excited for the spin-off series featuring Charley daughter. I received a free copy via Netgalley I voluntarily read and review this ARC no monetary compensation was received the opinions I have expressed are my own.
I won a copy of this book from Goodreads Giveaways, I was not required to give a favorable review. This is the last book in this series but it brings together so much that has happened in it. Plus it is fun reading a book that described in such a way the city that I lived next to. The story of good and bad, right and wrong and the ability to help others. They have said that people who have some form of mental illness can see things others can’t really was put to the test in this book. Each character is there for each other like a really big family and they are going to fight to get rid of the bad in the city of Albuquerque. I look forward to reading more books from Darynda and I hope that she does more that are based here in New Mexico.
This one’s a bittersweet review for me, folks. I ADORE this series, and this book lived up to every expectation I had for it…but it’s the last book in the series. So, while I’m sad that, like all good things, the series has come to an end, I’m so freakin’ happy to have read it from start to finish.
I’m not going to talk about the plot, because if you’re a fan of the series I’ll give too much away, and if you’re not a fan of the series, you’ll just be confused because there’s A LOT going on (all of it fabulous, of course). What I’ll talk about instead is all the other stuff I adore about the series:
A strong female lead:
Charley is the strongest character in the book. She has powers that not even she understands to their fullest potential. She doesn’t need Reyes to swoop in and save her. He does from time to time, because that’s just who he is, but if he wasn’t there, Charley would figure things out on her own. There are few things I love in my romance novels more than a strong heroine, and Charley is one of the strongest I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading about.
Reyes:
Reyes is, quite possibly, the sexiest alpha male hero who has ever graced a page. There’s nothing I don’t thoroughly enjoy about him. But besides all the yummy hotness, I think what I most love about Reyes is his willingness to let Charley be Charley. He doesn’t try to change her, even though his life would be WAY easier if she would tone down some of her natural self-sacrificing tendencies. He loves her for who she is and he celebrates rather than laments her uniqueness. Charley and Reyes = #RelationshipGoals
The friendships:
This entire series portrays some of the strongest, healthiest friendships I’ve ever read about. Sure, these are people who are thrown into crazy-ass situations, but their loyalty to one another remains intact no matter what. It’s inspirational.
Pee-your-pants hilarity:
Charley is hilarious and snarky and wonderfully weird. If you don’t laugh when she speaks, seek medical help because there’s something wrong with you.
Was the ending exactly what I wanted? Honestly? No. But was it probably the best possible ending for all the characters? Yes. And it set the stage nicely for what I hope (and pray to the book gods) will be a spin-off series featuring Charley and Reyes’ daughter. (I will 1-click the CRAP out of that spin-off series)
So, with a heavy heart, I bid farewell to the Charley Davidson series. You’ve given me hours and hours of reading enjoyment. You’ve never let me down. And Reyes? I think I’ll miss you most of all…
Full disclosure: We received an ARC from NetGalley free of charge.

Of course all good things come to a end but whyyy? Anyways I have been hooked totally since book one in a few months I devoured them. It had been ages since a series had me like this one. At times I wanted to slap Charley and also her honey. You get the finale you want but also at same time they will be missed. Gonna miss too the t shirt thingys too. It wasn’t all drama but has Charley humor too. Have bandages too from some of the scenes from the books with her and Reyes so it had it all too but again one that you will savor is this one.
